Civilization Match-up Discussion Round 9 Week 13: Celts vs Chinese Posted: 28 Jul 2020 09:20 PM PDT Two OG favorites! Hello and welcome back for another Age of Empires 2 civilization match up discussion! This is a series where we discuss the various advantages, disadvantages, and quirks found within the numerous match ups of the game. The goal is to collectively gain a deeper understanding of how two civilizations interact with each other in a variety of different settings. Feel free to ask questions, pose strategies, or provide insight on how the two civilizations in question interact with each other on any map type and game mode. This is not limited to 1v1 either. Feel free to discuss how the civilizations compare in team games as well! So long as you are talking about how the two civilizations interact, anything is fair game! Last week we discussed the Aztecs vs Persians, and next up is the Celts vs Chinese! Celts: Infantry and Siege civilization
Chinese:
Below are some match up-specific talking points to get you all started. These are just to give people ideas, you do not need to address them specifically if you do not want to!
Thanks as always for participating! Next week we will continue our discussions with the Byzantines vs Vietnamese. Hope to see you there! :) [link] [comments]

There is no point in saying the game is for noobs. Posted: 29 Jul 2020 07:03 AM PDT The difference between having noobs in the game name and forbid noobs in the game name. You get less noobs when you ask for noobs. :) [link] [comments]
Posted: 29 Jul 2020 06:51 AM PDT I'm Kurdish so I never tried the Turks by principle and I most likely never will, bu that doesn't stop the fact that I am quite interested in knowing if janissaries are actually way better than hand canonneers and if their modern gunpowder style army can stand up to archer or cavalry civs. [link] [comments]

anyone else getting tired of facing the same civs all the time? Posted: 28 Jul 2020 06:50 PM PDT seriously idk if people on my timezone are just specially keen on the meta or maybe the 1.2k unscapable pit I find myself but all my Matches be team games or 1v1 have either : Franks(all the time on Arabia) britons (even on Baltic somehow) Mongols(Arabia or arena pick you flavour of mangudai) Ethiopians (yay more Archer civs) Mayans (because the game needed cheaper Archers somewhere) seriously even though goths have a lot of playrste I never find them, and let's not even talk about malians, Bulgarians, tatars, Koreans or even Chinese. nope it's archers and Frank's, archers and Frank's, and the occasional cuman who basically plays like a Frank with faster paladin. How would you describe the different player types? Posted: 29 Jul 2020 07:14 AM PDT It's very obvious that different players have different play styles that they thrive in. Compare someone like Vivi (before the tower nerfs of DE) to someone like Viper or someone like Daut. Do you think we can think of a list of play styles or perhaps even better player types together? How would you describe the play(er) styles/types and where do you see their strengths and weaknesses. As a comparison, here's a random footballer categorization example: dribbler, workhorse, technician, poacher, ballplayer, etc... (I'm thinking about 1300 1v1 elo and upwards, as that should guarantee that the play styles don't just depend on the opposing player not producing vils continuously.) [link] [comments]

Are franks considered a noob civ, are they considered good? Posted: 28 Jul 2020 04:16 PM PDT I'm 948 elo right now and i'm starting to like franks more and more. They are know for their knight line, but they do so much more so well: great economy, great options for dealing with pikes (axemen, heavy scorps, champions, hand cannoneers), good siege includng bombard cannon. They are an really complete civ as opposed to the myth of them being just a knight civ, and they're really good at complementing their knights, which is just one of their powerhouse options. I just wonder why you don't see more of them in the competitive scene since to me they seem so powerfull, and why they are dismissed as a noob civ that is easy to deal with (tough i agree they're really easy to play with).
