2 v 3 Extreme AI on Lombardia - Match Report. Posted: 19 Nov 2019 09:24 PM PST Just came out of a five hour match of me and another player against 2 extreme AIs on Lombardia. We had Bulgarians and Cumans, the enemy had Indians, Burmese and Koreans. The other player in question is relatively used to the game after many hours in HD however this was supposed to be a trial run of the Cuman civ as his first time, as such in Feudal the 2nd TC etc was forgotten, furthermore we were triple rushed with knights which were countered by fast kreposts. Kreposts may need to be nerfed, I had 4 up alongside my early TCs with stone remaining, a lot of defence for little expense. So the main reason for this post is how this game ended up going, we collected some relics and forgot to trade for a while, the enemy did not forget, setting markets furthest apart for most value which shows the aptitude of the AI. The match was a slog of counters, counters countering the counters etc. Then the inevitable trash war, at least on our part halbs and skirms vs the korean war wagons, elephant archers and camels. Then the game became meta breaking, and unlike any AOE2 game I've played in my thousand hours, the wood ran out and eventually the farms and economy broke down, there were no trees on the map. The crops started failing and the world became Mad Max. There was no gold, or stone, no wood or food. Only relics on both sides of the old world and our meager trade. The enemy however was heavily fortified, an extreme triple AI on Lombardia is thick with castles in it's base. After back and forth raids with hussars and cheap units cobbled together the AI trade finally broke, but they still had relics, prices in the market reached over 1000 gold per 100 wood for example, the only option left was monk wars, surprisingly the AI started sending armies purely of monks, something I struggled with as Bulgarians unable to convert enemy monks, while my Cuman friend could convert them but had no theocracy, so intense micro ensued. The monk wars continued, monks dying to kreposts and converting each other, our monks dying to their castles as both sides resort to converting enemy buildings. Any remaining villagers became guerilla fighters, rushing in to attempt to destroy buildings such as markets and monasteries. Eventually the prices in the market reached such a height over 1500 gold per 100 wood that the game reset the price of wood back to it's original amount, luckily we noticed first and stocked up until the price became over 500 again, the AI however also noticed, and armies began being converted furiously. Now strange metas became obvious, siege rams filled with Bulgarian 2HS, smash and grab attacks on enemy monasteries while the monks run in to steal the relics. keeping alive the single trebuchet worth approximately 3200 gold, playing cat and mouse with an elephant archer, mangonel, 2 monks and a petard. If we could just get all the relics, the AI would have no income. Two monasteries remained, we were excited to see the map and statistics afterwards as our scores neared 100K total. However, after five hours the game crashed. We went back into the game to find it had not saved for restore, I'm sure we would of won, let's call it a draw. The funny thing is however, it is not until after the match that we realized we were on standard victory, we could of built a wonder hours ago all this time. Never played a match like this before it was amazing, the new AI is fantastic if you don't cheese it! Hope you enjoyed this insight, please be aware we are not pro we just like the game, thanks for reading! [link] [comments]

Which campaigns have been changed significantly? Posted: 19 Nov 2019 11:55 PM PST I noticed some of the forgotten campaigns have been completely re done. I was wondering which of the main campaigns (Or scenarios) have suffered the same treatment as I would like to replay such scenarios if they are sufficiently different. [link] [comments]
Posted: 20 Nov 2019 04:02 AM PST Is it worth it to put money on the new DE remake of AoE2? I played AoE in the late 90s..picked up RoR, AoK, AoC.....I even knew The _Sheriff and Maimin_Matty and a few scenario designers like Ingo Thiel... At some point I just got older, went on with life, and checked back for AoE3 and AoM...but they weren't really satisfying in the same way. Now I've caught wind of AoE4 and just yesterday I became aware of the AoK remake with the new expansions added to it. Is it worth it? Will I, as someone who was there in the old days, be happy? Will it keep the nostalgia up or will it be a disappointment? The reviews on Steam don't give me much confidence and having gone through the release thread it sounds like a technical mess.. TL;DR I'm an old school AoE player who is scared to pay for a shitty remake in our era of unfortunate shitty games and remakes (cough Fallout4,Fallout76, Diablo 3, Diablo 4, cough) [link] [comments]
Why is AoE2 DE so ressource intensive on my PC? Posted: 20 Nov 2019 12:08 AM PST I play the 4k version of AoE2 DE and it uses up ALL my PCs ressources. I7 CPU running at 40-50% load 1080ti GTX running at 99% load 16Gb ram is constantly full even disk is running at 100-300 MB per second which I only see if I am copying large chunks of data How is this even possible with a 2d game? the difference from AoE2 HD to AoE2 DE is not that big to justify such a crazy consumption of data. Can anyone explain what is happening here?? edit:spelling [link] [comments]

Saracen archers are so op I suggest balancing . Posted: 20 Nov 2019 07:06 AM PST 1 - the archer bonus is removed and instead now it is the team bonus against units (+1 in feudal +2 in castle +3 in imperial) (archery in the Arab world is both religiously encouraged and books written about archery are still relevant today for anyone who want to learn archery). 2 - they get a bonus for faster knights because Arabian horses are known as weak but fast horses, this will make knights better, 10% faster. (still have husbandry on top of that) 3 - they get 100 gold more but 50 less wood in the start of the game and the market is moved to the feudal age. most important. (historically wood always was Scarce in the desert and the Arabs needed to trade early on to survive). 4 - transport ship bonus is gone and instead trade cogs move 10% faster or carry more gold or get buffed with an attack. (historically Arab trading ships traded from the horn of Africa to India and china and Malaysia) 5 - unique technology instead of saving monk cost makes monk resting time less (historically, Islamic missionary were sent to all places and they succeed in getting kingdoms in Malaysia and Indonesia into Islam) [link] [comments]

Posted: 20 Nov 2019 12:36 AM PST I see a lot of posts recently about what is the best way to counter a specific unit comp. How do i counter mass cav archer? How do i counter halb Onager? How do i counter paladins? And i do see a lot of helpfull response but there is normally a underlying issue.... he was just playing better. Unless you keep losing to the same comp over and over again you should just improve you fundamentals. Maybe he was producing vills more consistent? Maybe he had better unit contol? Maybe he thought further ahead then you did? Keep in mind that every counter can be countered. My best advice to you is more counters less. Work on the basics and everything you make will be stronger. Gl out there [link] [comments]

Saying goodbye for now because game crashes everytime Posted: 20 Nov 2019 03:23 AM PST Playing aoe2 online for years, but now on DE the game crashes every time after 5 - 15 mins, the game just closes itself. I have a 16 gb ram system, no uhd graphics, tried increasing the virtual ram toom nothing helps. So as long as the devs haven't fixed the crash issues and memory leaks i have to goodbye to my favorite hobby to unwind. It's a shame because the game itself is great. Hopefully a fix is coming soon, i cant picture myself to stop playing this game. [link] [comments] |
