The game is in such an unplayable state i decided to stop playing -> will have consquences for the game's future

    Posted: 31 May 2020 04:14 AM PDT

The previous update was a mess but the last update is a joke. Up until now i was always supportive of the devs despite the issues. But the last two updates are so bad, it's unworthy for professional developers. Currently I have so much lag every game that it just freezes for 30 seconds+. There are hackers in the top 20, i can't even type "I said well played" without it being censored. Most player names are censored, the map pool is questionable, pathing is wore than ever it seems... I love and play this game since it's release 20 years ago but when i play now I just have to quit after 30 minutes out of sheer frustration.

Just now when outside sponsors like Red Bull are eyeing the game, having this mess going on looks very bad and might have big consequences for the future of the game. I hope i'll be able to play again next month when a patch that actually patches things might be released.

    Such a shame.

Can we not turn this community into just complaining about the game?

    Posted: 30 May 2020 04:46 PM PDT

Hey all! First of all, just wanted to say that I get all the frustration with many of the bugs that have been in the game, especially the really blatant ones like the Malay 166% advance. I also get the frustration with the fact that it took a month of waiting for a new patch instead of issuing a hotfix.

That being said, I see more and more content of this sub being dedicated to being frustrated with the game and complaining about it. There are plenty of video game communities that spend so much of their time complaining about the game that they claim to love and I don't want to see that happen here. The community is one of the best things about this game!

I will also add that developing a new thing on top of old legacy software is often difficult. The game is pretty old - building a new game with the existing software has to be tough. There are going to be hiccups. I am a developer as well, and I know the pain of telling someone you are addressing an issue, only to discover several other issues that cause delays. Then you have to explain why it isn't done yet.

Again, a bunch of the issues are super annoying. In the case of cheaters, they are game breaking. But the AOE playerbase is growing and for 20 bucks we got a modern version of the game we all love and it gets tons of attention from the studio who created it, even if they aren't perfect. I just hope we keep the positive energy around here.

Thoughts? If you feel I am off base definitely tell me.

Can we have a sticky thread for BoA2 discussion?

    Posted: 31 May 2020 03:10 AM PDT

Just finished watching these amazing games yesterday, came to reddit and there is zero discussion on this event. You wouldn't even know it was happening if you just relied on reddit.

Secret vs Suomi one of the best series I've ever watched, and no thread seems to be discussing it?

Don't join a beginners lobby if you aren't one? Where can you play vs actual beginners?

    Posted: 31 May 2020 05:03 AM PDT

Hi all, so I have started to get slightly irritated with the community. I used to play the game years ago so I did not have any issues jumping straight into the online scene. However my girlfriend has tried to start playing online, I made her play art of war and she has played against AI. Issue is either she finds the AI too easy or too difficult and struggles to find a difficulty that is actually competitive.

But whenever she plays online and makes a lobby clearly named " actual beginners, or real noobs" we will have people with 200+ ranked games try join (who she just kicks). But she has literally lost 12 games in a row and is just over it. I have watched her play most of the games and tried to help her along, but most of the guys playing arent new to the game, she is getting 21 pop scout rushed or castle dropped etc.

Why join a beginners lobby when you clearly arent? it literally is turning new players away from the game.

Can we get some official post-series discussion posts?

    Posted: 31 May 2020 05:48 AM PDT

Battle of Africa is going on and apart from a dead stickied thread, there is barely any mention of it. Suomi vs Secret was an incredible watch and I would have loved to see people's thoughts on it.

Reddit has been a great discussion platform for the esports side of games like League of Legends and CS:GO; and while this sub is still considerably smaller, I think it already has the numbers to make for some great post-game threads.

I'd make the posts myself if my work schedule allowed it, but sadly thats not the case. If the mods or anyone else can make this happen, please do <3
