Shout out to the AoE2 wiki maintainers Posted: 13 Aug 2020 04:10 AM PDT The wiki feels so professional (almost too professional 11)- details are mixed with some historical context, things are enumerated well (availability vs non-availability), good explanation of subtle differences, reads like a computer programming manual and also a changelog! I was reading the one for Lithuanian today and while I have always been impressed in the last 5 months, this was over the good... You guys have done a bang up job. [link] [comments]

Posted: 13 Aug 2020 12:01 AM PDT I really like the idea of a closed in Arabia that promotes feudal brawling. It plays out really nicely. Also just learned about the Socotra Archipelago because of this map. I hope it stays on the map pool forever. [link] [comments]
Posted: 13 Aug 2020 12:55 AM PDT The field looks stacked! Will the players who just missed out last qualifier make it this time? Belgium, ACCM, Lyx and Miguel Will Slam and TheMax wreak havoc? Or is it time for the comeback of Jordan Let me know your predictions [link] [comments]
Boars keep spawning next to each other in Arabia with the new patch? Posted: 12 Aug 2020 10:43 PM PDT
Posted: 13 Aug 2020 05:01 AM PDT Been playing with the Magyars and really enjoying it. Love the instant attack upgrades. My issue is what to transition into when hitting castle. Usually I go scout rush in feudal. Imp/late imp I move too Cav Archers + siege for a push with huszars doing eco raids. But castle im not sure what unit to use to keep applying pressure and keeps me safe/nimble until i get to imp. Thoughts or advice? Around 1k elo [link] [comments]

Let’s have world rankings for pro players! Posted: 13 Aug 2020 01:20 AM PDT The interview with Nili where he suggested annual prize money for players position on the ladder has spurred me to post something i've been thinking about for a while. The pro scene would really benefit from world rankings. Players could earn world ranking points from their performance in big tournaments and the points a player accumulates over a 12month rolling period contribute to their world ranking. Players could earn prize money from their world ranking and it would be easy to identify the top 8/16/32 for automatic qualification to tournaments. We would have a definitive world number 1, 2, 3 etc etc. We can leave the current ladder for matchmaking only and there would be no additional pressure on normal 1v1s for players who want to play casually. What's everyone think? [link] [comments]

I can match with Hard, but cannot finish them off. Posted: 13 Aug 2020 04:34 AM PDT Whether it's poor micro or poor unit counters I cannot for the life of me finish the hard Ai. Matches become epic struggles where we push forward, get pushed back and then push more until one of our side loses all their army but can regroup because they have castles that can pick off the army that is pushing until the other side gets an army to push only for that army to run into the same problem. My games are literally ww1 battles. What are some tips to be able to finish off an AI and not be in a game for five hours after every gold reserve on the map is gone and we're all selling resources for 14 gold a piece? Posted: 13 Aug 2020 07:12 AM PDT Status Quo: some players feel like tower-rushing as a strategy is too effective and stifles early gameplay with units. Building defensive structures in proximity to your opponent's base similarly as effective as building them at home. Idea: Towers cost 25 wood more but give you +5 pop. Discussion: Towers are more valuable for the player without adding additional combat effectiveness. This means that players are disincentivized to build them in risky locations (like a tower rush). If an opponent defends a tower rush and kills the towers, they get the small bonus that their opponent might be housed and have to build more houses. On the other hand, if you're confident of your tower surviving then you can save the villager time building a house! Also, I think the villagers would appreciate being able to live in a tower :) the view would be nice! Overall I think it would be nice for more buildings to contribute pop and towers seem like an interesting fit. What are your thoughts? [link] [comments]
Tips to beat tryhard friend in 1v1v1v1 FFA Posted: 13 Aug 2020 02:53 AM PDT I've gotten back into AoE2 with some friends because one of them always asks to have LAN games of them. The problem is none of us except the guy asking really knows build orders, so every time he just fast castles into knights or archer rushes and nobody can really do anything about it. He's also been practising non stop as well for our next game next weekend, which isn't really fun to face off against. To prepare for the next LAN game, I've started practicing Cicero's BO's and can now roll over moderate AI and beat hard AI on maps like Arena, mainly because I can reliably do a fast castle into boom and snag the relics. On open maps I can do a scout rush or archer rush but I'm fairly slow with it, as in that I can only start attacking around 14-15 minutes. Usually the AI manages to make more military even though I kill his vills and ends up mopping up my army. Do you guys have any tips on how to improve my feudal game and how to fend him off? He almost always picks Mayans or Franks. I usually see the tip to play ranked, but my job really doesn't allow me to spend alot of time on gaming. [link] [comments]
Why or why not? Mill before lumbercamp Posted: 13 Aug 2020 04:41 AM PDT Came across this build where 6 sheep>1stragglerlumber>4 mill-forage Considering no pressure from opponent and no deleting stragglers with palisades. In what way is this build good? Does it get you a faster feudal? [link] [comments]
Posted: 13 Aug 2020 04:33 AM PDT I was playing a team game and we ended up losing after 2 hours because we couldn't counter elite longbow and elite war elephants. My team went full halbs, bbt, and a few of us went monks towards the end. lol everything died. [link] [comments]
Posted: 13 Aug 2020 01:07 AM PDT If I want to heavy wall up quickly on black forrest 1v1 (layered walls), do I send my scout to the enemy side after exploring my map, essentially to die later, or get the scout to pick of enemy village? Or bring my scout back before walling? [link] [comments]
Posted: 13 Aug 2020 12:28 AM PDT Mongols have their power spike in early feudal around minute 11 when they can do the fastest scout rush of the game, crippling the opp if he isn't walled or ready for it. The long game strategy is then use this advantage to snowball, normally with mangudai and siege rams and hussars, but then we're talking about early imperial. What do you do right after the scout rush but before building a castle and spamming? I've tried archers, knights and CA but neither seems to be the perfect option. [link] [comments] |
