    Curious on what other people's observations are and how similar they are to mine.

    I've noticed higher resource/villager allocation efficiency in ~1700 players, little wastage, and better defensive skills.

    why is scout rush so popular?

    i see so many ppl scout rushing and wondering why is this? im playing only archer rush and everytime i see someone going feudal with 21 pop i know whats coming, wall my ressources build 2 spears and just raid with archers. in my elo (1200 - 1300) a scout rush is basicly just an invitation to go aggressive in feudal with archers + spears (spears even help breaking walls). also my elo is relativly low, i wonder why high elo players dont do the same? they are even better at quickwalling then me, so defending a scout rush should be easier. also scouts cost food so it delays castle time and you can only tech into knights. plus i wonder why do high elo player answer scouts with own scouts instead of 2 -4 spears and just rushing castle?

    How long does it take to get your elo to fall?

    Gi, im a new DE player (played before DE but only vs AI and campaigns). Ive played 3 total ranked games and lost them all. Im wondering how long until the skill level drops to around where I am because currently i can tell the people im facing have some type of experience, as they are fully walling properly, decent eco, faster castle/imp, etc. Also if anyone has small tips they want to share feel free! The only comfortable part of my game rn is i feel good with my eco going dark-feudal. Also ive been playing alot of mayans as I want to learn them first! Thanks!

    Definitive Edition Crashing/Hanging Help

    I've posted this on the Discord and the Steam/AoE forums and haven't had a reply so now I'm trying here. This is a bit of a weird one. I have 63 hours played in the steam version of the game with absolutely zero issues until Wednesday. All of a sudden I've been experiencing all kinds of random crashes. If I click the multiplayer shield 80% of the time it will black screen and crash the game (Black screen won't go away have to close via task manager but I'm still in control of the AOE mouse cursor). If I do manage to get into the lobby browser they will take a long time to populate or sometimes not at all and the "searching for games" icon will just keep on spinning.

    If I try to create a lobby then the game will instantly hang and stop responding. When I manage to get into someone else's lobby then any pop up screens (Civ selection, Tech tree) can cause the application to hang, as will switching colours or teams. The game will usually eventually start responding again if I click wait.

    During a game anyone resigning will cause the game to hang again, clicking wait sometimes resolves this and sometimes the game will just crash to desktop.

    As far as I can tell this happened completely out of the blue with no changes to my system at all. Nothing was installed or removed and nothing was updated on the game. One day it worked perfectly and the next it didn't. If anyone can give me any idea on how to fix this I'd appreciate it.

    System Information

    • OS: Windows 10 1909
    • GPU: GTX 1070
    • CPU: i7-6700k
    • RAM: 2x8gb
    • Game Version: Steam
    • Anti Virus: AVAST free

    Troubleshooting/Observations

    • I've followed the troubleshooting guides on both the aoe2 forums and on steam to the letter. No error logs exist anywhere (Appdata folder nor C:/games folder). The windows event viewer just shows an application hang error for the game.

    • I've uninstalled (and manually removed all folders) and reinstalled twice, once to my normal C drive and once to my D drive. Both installs have the same issue.

    • I've disabled and removed all mods I had installed (I think just small trees was all I had)

    • I've removed the Enhanced graphics pack DLC

    • I've tried manually increasing my page file limit from 8gb to 16gb on both my C and D drives which did not resolve the issue.

    • I've tried using various display modes (Full screen/windowed etc)

    • I've double checked all my drivers are up to date, my GPU drivers were updated and this didn't resolve the issue.

    • I've tried signing out of Xbox from the main menu, this didn't help either.

    • I disabled my anti virus and loaded the game, no change.

    • I've discovered that if I wait out the multiplayer black screen it will eventually reach the lobby browser after a long period of time but joining a lobby or clicking any other tab (Spectate, clans etc) will cause the application to hang but will eventually load the page if I wait long enough (well over 30 seconds).

    • At first game invites would work although getting into the lobby took a long time, if I click anything on the screen during this wait the application will hang and have to be closed.

    ELO Shifts Over Day

    Anyone else experience that they feel their ELO is higher in the day and dives at night? Every afternoon I'm wrecking fools at a cool 900 ELO but every night the 900 pros log on and I plummet to 800.

    Is it possible to change units orientation?

    For example. Lets say you have a stack of 20 archer all facing ^ upwards. Is there a way to make them face to the Left <-- .

    I remember in Rise of Nations all you had to do was press mouse right button and hold it until you design the line you want your units to form in. The same in Total War.

    How do you make this in Age of Empires 2?
