    Should spearmen still have bonus damage versus ships?

    AFAIK, the reason the bonus damage existed in the first place was that camels and ships were the same unit class. Now that they are not, why does the spearman-line still have bonus damage versus ships. Is there a valid gameplay or historical reason for it?

    All Civilizations AI vs AI Tournament Qualifiers Conclusion and new Subreddit

    I have been hosting an AI only (DE Extreme) tournament with tweaked game settings featuring all the civilizations for the last few days. 76 matches played in the group stage alone - many more to be played at the main event. And it has been a blast so far! Long story short, I created a whole new subreddit r/aoe_ai.

    Read the write-up (introduction, summary, recommended games with replay files, interesting facts about the matches and my own thoughts on this experiment) for the qualifiers here.

    How all of this is set up is quite unique and besides being entertaining, can serve as a low-level case study for AI behavior (as I am also planning to make this a regular thing).Thanks to everyone eventually checking it out and giving their thoughts! AOE is just great.

    Low ELO probs

    My max is 790 and currently like 720. I'm usually at feudal by 11-13 depending on what I want to do. My first 1 min like clockwork, h+q queue TC vills, 2 vills on house, then one makes another, second vill shift clicked to sheep, sheep vill gets sheep to TC. Waypoint scout one loop around start, then another one. I push all my deer and rarely lose a vill to boar. Usually 7-11 go to wood and then 11-21 are on food because I have sheep/bush/boar/deer because the free food lasts long enough til farms are in play. Horse collar before any farms and immediate lumber upgrade at feudal.

    I started playing ranked as full random only because I thought it was proper etiquette so I think I handicapped myself and I lost a lot. So in the last day or so I've been going Frank's on arena and Saracens on Arabia and a lot of the time it feels like I'm smurfing people.

    Yesterday I was just toying with a guy at 800elo and dropped like 8 Frank's castles around his walls in arena. I can quickwall/house pretty decently. And my micro isn't terrible, yesterday I destroyed like 40 Cavaliers with 40 FU HCAs while ruining his vills. I rarely forget my upgrades.

    My strat for arena is to basically FC but on the way to castle I move my gold miners somewhere in the middle with a tower and mining camp, immediate second TC, market abuse for a third and then drop a castle forward of the tower. Knights are queued at Castle and brought to center. Then I just keep pumping castles and knights and try to get vills on every stone/gold in the open with a support castle or knights. Get a castle close to walls with a few petards garrisoned to open a wall and let the knights in once I have a deathball.

    I watch t90s/viper/Hera's YouTube all the time, played when I was 10 in 2000, and just started up again last year. I hear people on this sub saying they're trash and make dumb mistakes yet they're at 1000+ Elo. I love low ELO legends but t90s saying these dudes are like 700 Elo and I think it's weird that I'm on their level?

    I know I gotta grind and I still get stomped sometimes but this post isn't meant to be braggy or anything so please don't take it like that.

    Off topic from where I'm getting at but I think it would be pretty cool if there was something like low ELO legends but it was a team game with a pro and a low ELO against the same.

    My friend and I are enjoying some ranked 2v2, preferably on arabia. He likes cavalry and dislikes infantry, so usually I compensate with an archers-focused civ. So what are the best civs matches?

    How do you ungarrison villagers from TC's and make them go back to the tasks they were working on? I've seen Hera do it, but when I ungarrison they just go the waypoint.

    Would you accept swordsmen to become a more prominent unit?

    I can see you sighing and rolling your eyes at another buff infantry thread, so without further ado I'll just state my suggestions.

    How much do you think aoe2 would change if the militia-line had 0.95 speed, the Longswords 1/1 armor and Champions 2/2 armor? Also, reduced cost and research times because their time/cost ratio to viability isn't great to say the least, which makes them not worth investing into except for a select few civs and situations(post imp trash war), whereas archers and knights will always find their way into your main army composition and strategy in almost all civs and situations.

    Now is this a bad thing per se? Most of this sub for example, seems content with the fact that they're a really really niche unit, so it's more of a question of would you accept them to become a core unit like archers and knight, or at least more prominent.

    It goes without saying that changes to the militia-line would implicate some other alterations to civ infantry bonuses and techs, like reducing the Malian PA bonus to keep it the same etc. Also being careful about accidentally buffing Goths!

    I believe it is ridiculously OP even after the supposed 'nerf' which still allows +12 vs Castles and TCs.

    Unstoppable even at the highest Pro level. Far more powerful then the Indian camel team bonus ever was.

    Discussion about One Trick Ponies

    Hi fellow redditors, I love this community! But I hate some playstyles in Arabia. Especially walling into drush FC which kind of ruins the fun for me. I am around 1600 ELO in 1v1 RM and almost all the games people pick mayans and they just drush into full wall into FC.

    Whenever I go trush, they just wall behind with double layers of palisade wall and have some back resources to save them. Once they hit castle age, they just make plumed archers and the game goes to imp with smooth transition into halberdiers + plumes and trebs. Had these kind of games in 4/5. Sorry I know I am not good enough at this playstyle. What should I do better? Would like to have some fun in Feudal Age and then Castle Age. But, the game just goes to Imperial Age with no strong army push from either push. And then 40 minute mark hits, that's when the game starts.

    Why would people like to play like that when they can just play DM?

    And the main question: What would be a better alternative for this matchmaking to match me against players who don't pick civs? All games I pick random civ option, almost 80% of the games I am against civs like Mayans or Aztecs.
