What are some of the best/most fun Revolution builds?

    Posted: 05 Jun 2022 02:10 AM PDT

I'm up to the challenge where you have to revolt 3 times and want to try some wacky strategies. I know about the US one where you can have unlimited minutemen, and the Brazil one where you can have like 20+ TCs producing revolutionaries, but I want to see if there are any other fun ones.

How to beat Dutch cannon lamers in team games?

    Posted: 05 Jun 2022 12:34 AM PDT

How do I beat them. Its irritating they just spam cannons with bunch of ruyters protecting them and which counters the cav. I can't spam culvetins like them since I don't get free gold

Economic analysis of the Habsburg, Wittelsbach, Phanar, and Vasa "Big Buttons" that encourage you to wait before clicking them

    Posted: 04 Jun 2022 02:01 PM PDT

TL;DR They don't really provide "more value" the longer you wait (it's just the same value over the same amount of time, stacking), and most of them produce their "free" stuff at a rate equal to 1 Villager gathering resources.

When I heard you could get free stuff from native settlements I was hyped because I never use natives but love free stuff. So let's check it out!

    HABSBURG (Radetzsky March):

    • Spawns a Magyar Hussar, literally the same unit trainable from United States Forts (so 2x hp, +50% cost/pop, and upgrades for free as you age up).
    • Takes 5 minutes after building the TP before you can click the button, but when you do it spawns 1 Magyar Hussar.
    • Every 5 minutes of not clicking the button after the initial 5 minutes adds another unit to the button for when you click it.
    • When you click the button, it resets the whole thing no matter what your time-till-next-unit was.

300 seconds per unit compared to the 417 American villager-seconds that would produce such a unit is 1.38 unupgraded villagers.

The Habsburgs also have an Industrial tech that adds a Hungarian Grenadier to the button for every Hussar. This also works retroactively (if you already have, say, 3 Hussars in the button then researching this adds 3 Grenadiers to the button). Hungarian Grenadiers are normal Guard Grenadiers but with +6 range and automatically get Imperial stats upon reaching that age. Hungarian Grenadiers also get buffed by the "Grenade Launchers" card. The tech which adds the Grens costs 1k food/1k coin but effectively adds 0.8 base villagers worth of gather rate to the trade post (based on the normal Grenadier cost).

    WITTELSBACH (Alpine Horns):

    • Spawns a Mountain Trooper, a Native Warrior with the same stats as a Skirmisher but with Promotions increasing it's range and attack speed. The version spawned from this button has a separate build limit from the trainable Mountain Troopers but is otherwise identical and benefits from the same upgrades.
    • Takes 5 minutes after building the TP before you can click the button, but when you do it spawns 2 Mountain Troopers.
    • Every 2.5 minutes of not clicking the button after the initial 5 minutes adds another unit to the button for when you click it.
    • When you click the button, it resets the whole thing no matter what your time-till-next-unit was.
    • The button also reveals the location of all enemy buildings.

150 seconds per unit compared to the 190 villager-seconds that would produce such a unit is 1.26 unupgraded villagers.

    PHANAR (Greek Revolution):

    • Spawns a Musketeer-type unit (Sacred Band Infantry) with 4.75 speed, 14 range, and a very minor same-unit-type area buffing effect (don't know specifics on it). Does not count as a Native Warrior but gets upgraded for free as you age up.
    • Takes 5 minutes after building the TP before you can click the button, but when you do it spawns 4 of the Infantry.
    • Every 2.5 minutes of not clicking the button after the initial 10 minutes adds another unit to the button for when you click it.
    • When you click the button, it resets the whole thing no matter what your time-till-next-unit was.
    • Also increases Villager ranged attack damage by 12.

150 seconds per unit compared to the 172 villager-seconds that would theoretically produce such a unit is 1.14 unupgraded villagers.

    VASA (Order of Vasa):

    • Increases Villager gather rate by 25% and building trickle rate by 10% for 30 seconds.
    • Takes 5 minutes after building the TP before you can click the button.
    • Every 5 minutes of not clicking the button after the initial 5 minutes adds another 50%/10% to the bonus.
    • The bonus does not scale with gather rate upgrades (goes off the base gather rate value, i.e. it'll always boost wood gather rate by 0.05 for normal vills).

I don't know about specifics of what counts as a "building trickle" and what doesn't, or about how much value any specific civ will get out of this button, but my napkin math says it's got less than 1 vill's value over time until you get 50+ vills out.

Each extra Trading Post you have with the same Royal House will increase the speed at which the Big Buttons charge by 1.5x.

That's all I found so far. Fascinating stuff!

A much more simpler Grand Campaign Mode Design

    Posted: 03 Jun 2022 11:13 PM PDT

taking the feed back and toning it down for the game engine, this is a much more simpler Grand Campaign Mode Design.

    Starting out

For this Simpler design let's use the Spanish as our starting Nation.

At the Beginning you start with in Spain and a army, unlike the first design, this army only have decks and level where you can level up and unlocks cards like how you play the old Age of Empires 3.

    Regions

In this Simpler Design Regions only have Gold as a Campaign Resource that is generated per turn by regions which varies in it's production, this Gold can be used for actions in the Campaign such as:
    -Raising new armies
    -Upgrading Army
    -Levelling up Armies(unlocks cards)
-Building Infrastructure that will appear on the Battle Map

    Upgrading Army and Building Infrastructure

Upgrading Armies have different effects some that has been though of are:
    -Supply Chain(Extra Starting Crates)
-Encampment(Start with Simple Walls that cannot be upgraded)
    -Scouting Force(Start with a few age 2 units[ineffective against settlers/villagers until age 2])
    -Settlers(Start with extra settler/villagers)
    -Advanced(Start in Age 2 or Age 3)
-Allies(Have a minor AI player who can only go up to Age 2 or Age 3 to help you fight)

Building Infrastructure will add some starting building when a region is attacked, such buildings are:
    -Houses, Mills & Estates.
    -Barracks, Stables, & Artillery Foundry.
    -Docks(if the map have water).
-Walls(start with walls that can be upgraded to fortified walls, or even Fort Walls){If an army with a Encampment Upgrade is defending a region with walls, the encampment walls will be placed in the front of the Region Walls.

    Conclusion

With this design a Grand Campaign mode will give some purpose and storyline for a battle with some unique encounter like besieging Paris who have fort walls and while you build up the French sally out to take out your Allies Base who will be important in taking on the City.

Having trouble with the Vatican City challenge

    Posted: 04 Jun 2022 12:42 AM PDT

So it says "send five unique church home city cards" I thought this meant the cards that send unique techs to your church, but it didn't do anything. I tried sending cards unique to different civs that dealt with churches, church techs, Italian church troops, and nothing works. Well one thing has so far, it says I have 1/5, but I have no idea how I got it. Can someone ease help?

I want to get better. I am 1250 elo

    Posted: 03 Jun 2022 10:46 PM PDT

Here are some things I AM working on:

Trying to get lots of games so that I have a general game sense and don't rely too heavily on set build orders

Trying to hotkey almost everything I'll use in a game (I use legacy). I currently have 60% of what I would need to use in a game hotkeyyed and which constitutes maybe around 90% of all actions I perform in a game

Lots of annoying raids with 2-7 melee cav

Watching recordings of people better than me

Here are some things I'm NOT working on, or not hard enough:

Learning and practicing specific build orders for specific strats

Learning all other civs well so that I can learn to play against them

Scouting. Of course I scout as best I can; but I feel like the intel it gives me isn't very good. Perhaps I just suck at scouting. I feel like i never get the info I need when scouting.

Thoughts? Any way I should shift my focus?

Thanks I'm advance and have a wonderful day. YOU are awesome. Don't let the badgers badger you down.

Mahouts are underhelming and camels (specially sowars) are made of glass. What do you think they need a buff/a nerf? Which one?

You can talk about the other units of course.

People is talking about than on the forums
