Age of Empires 3 Viable team strategy?

As soon as the game starts out and you've collected your starting crates, send your resources to your teammate—ideally one using a Civ that's already great at rushing—so that they can Age immediately and begin attacking opponents stuck in the discovery age. Since most teams resign as soon as a teammate quits, all you would theoretically need to do is obliterate one of the enemy teammates, instead of stressing about killing all of them with your limited resources. So despite crippling yourself by giving resources to a teammate, as long as the teammate successfully kills 1 opponent you win. Thoughts?
