    I remember when the Conquerors first released about 19 years ago...I remember how excited we were about :

    Vills working instantly after building lumbercamps, mines, and mills..
    The introduction of bloodlines
    Presenting Hussars and Halbardier
    Not needing to research Hand cannoneer or bombard canons
    The introduction of UTs
    Spanish, Huns and Meso civs..

    And the community kept on going, 20 years later the game is still developing. Many RTSs that has been released around that time were bought by EA and died *ehm C&C *ehm, but I think the developers of AOEII has managed to somehow to keep that from happening.

    What a long way we have gone. For that, we should all be thankful for the developers and the community! We are a legendary community with a positive mindset an very few toxic players, so lets appreciate what we have :D

    Extremely frustrated by AoE2:DE Crashes and optimization, but I found some workarounds.

    I've been playing AoE for two decades. I just bought The Definitive Edition and I am super pissed off. Spontaneous crashes, poor performance, clearly observable memory leaks with the Enhanced Graphics Pack enabled leading to a CTD...I have a good rig: OCed 1080ti, OCed 8700k, 16gb of 3600mhz cl16 RAM.

    How I Actually Managed to Play A Game with Enhanced Graphics: I've literally had to set my paging file to 20gb in order to play the game without constant crashing (12gb was too small!) and run Intelligent Standby list cleaner in the background. The game is using 10gb of RAM at the main menu... starting a game maxs out my RAM immediately.

    Why the hell would they release something in this state? I've genuinely never seen something so poorly optimized and I beta test Escape from Tarkov on high settings!

    I hope that my discoveries help someone get the DE actually running, but this shit is just so sloppy it feels like the pure exploitation of nostalgia.

    So which AI do you play against?

    With a couple of friends we like to play against ai's on Arena. It's chill and we can just boom.

    We spotted that the most difficult ai to beat was the HD edition one in "Hard".

    Do you know if there is others setups to use? We basically do 4vs4 against 4 HD edition in hard. P

    I really don't like nerfs that just weaken it overall, I want changes that give defined counterplay since it forces players to adapt to what the others are doing.

    Don't make lancers cost more. Make them weaker and pop inefficient instead by adding bonus damage from archers (so there is a clear counter) and reduce damage to make them less oppresive (12/10 to 10/8).

    For the cav speed make it scale 10/15 in feudal/castle and remove husbandry.

    Double tc boom is fine eco wise it's just too safe. Make their tc only be able to garrison 5 units in feudal age to it more punishable. And maybe make second tc cost 200 stone to make defensive towers even weaker

    Kipchaks I havent seen yet because every cuman goes lancers but i feel like they are fine tbh. Reduced speed from losing husbandry would make kiting less oppresive and they are already weak to bbc / onagers / skrims due to their short range.

    Remove last infantry armor upgrade. Dunno why they have such a wide tech tree. Last cav armor upgrade could also be removed as their paladin are already insane with the additional speed.

    hello,

    We're a group of friends and are pretty new to aoe2. We just joined with the DE. We're having fun playing against hard bots, learning new stuff and trying out builds (castle rush, fast archers, korean tower rush etc.).

    However we're running into some difficulties with the starting locations. We usually pick a random map. Sometimes a player wants to try something from the pocket position but spawns as flank player. Is there a way to set starting positions?

    Rank AOE II Campaigns by quality?

    Hello kings, rajas, sultans and emperors,

    I have recently acquired AOE II DE and started by playing through the Barbarossa Campaign (I had only played the first 2 missions around 12 years ago lol, I mainly played on random maps) and was pleasantly surprised. Really enjoyable experience. I want to continue with campaigns and was wondering which are the best, which are the worst? (Now that we have all DLCS in one game, I can give it all a try).

    I have only played the Monctezuma (full), Barbarossa (missions 1-5) and the william wallace campaigns (FREEDOM!)

    Command queue Bug?

    Guys I have been noticing when I command queue a resource drop in the town center, villagers just stand there like there wasn't a queue. So whenever I want to send the villagers to somewhere I have to garrison and ungarrison them. While this works okay generally. It's really frustrating when I command queue some villagers and they just stand there like they have nothing to do.

    Right now dropping meat from boar to continue villager production is just really annoying.

    If I just right click and right click back, because of lag villagers sometimes don't drop food

    if I garrison they need to walk back and because pathing sucks, they get stuck on themselves and go idle

    (Really why does this happen?While I think pathing is better in general, but when it fails, it fails completely. How many times I am supposed to see 2 lumberjack villagers that get stuck on each other in a game. !And They don't appear as idle! . And cavalry that just doesn't want to attack. This is by far the worst part of DE in my opinion)

    if I command queue , well I can't. They just stand there.

    Do others feel differently? I have been playing ranked in DE and have been annoyed at how I will lose rating if an ally disconnects and I become destined to lose without them.

    I also lost some ranking to a no-error crash but I imagine the devs are working on fixing those if not already done.

    I've been playing game for couple months (against Moderate AI now) and been having some issues that I cannot fix.

    I watched a lot of tutorials and matches, and I think I have a pretty decent early game for noob. The problem is that I keep creating military units, usually archers as I play Britons most of the time, but I rarely do anything with them. If I try to raid oponent, AI starts to send military towards me and by the time I deal with that, I would have like 5 out of 30 archers alive, I should mention that I use Hit and run technique, to minimize my archers loss. This makes me retreat. Because of this, AI walls up using stone and by that point it is nearly impossible to make some damage, so my games exeeds 1hour and i usually resign when I see that it leads nowhere.

    I would resign with like 8k food, 6k wood.

    Can someone suggest me some strategies to work on, or a word of advice to actually know when and how utilize my army?

    Suggestion: real time pause option in settings

    I have a suggestion that I would really like to see added to the game as an option in the settings. It would really help someone like me who is partially handicapped play the game and not have to get overwhelmed and annoyed. This allows the person to play at their own pace and take things slow. Really think about their next move. Real time pause like in They Are Billions. Pause the game but still be able to give commands etc. Please Forgotten Empires!

    This is a real-time strategy game, but don't get too nervous. You can pause the action to take the best strategic and tactical decisions.

    In Pause Mode, you can place structures to build, give orders to your army, or consult all of the game's information.

    This game is all about strategy, not player performance or the player's skill to memorize and quickly execute dozens of key commands. Pause the game and take all the time you need!
