What do you like about your favorite civ? Posted: 07 Jan 2020 04:57 AM PST I find the malians to be crazy fun to play because of their insane flexibility. They have almost everything above average. Their cavaliers hit harder than paladins. Their light cav defeat even mongol hussars. Their champions resist arrows. Their camels are among the strongest in the game. They can go toe to toe with even imperial camels. Their unique unit the gbeto is cool as hell and fun to play. Theres very few better raiding units in the game. Their archers are weak in imperial. But that's made up for by the fact they get hand cannoneers faster than all other civs except one. And their unique unit has a ranged attack. And thats just the imperial age. Their feudal age is pretty close to the best in the game. With man at arms that shrug off arrow fire. And an economy thats perfectly designed for an archer rush. You can rush with knights or crossbows in castle. You can even do longswords as the malians are one of the very few civs where thats a viable strategy. Their late game is a little weak. We can do everything sure but we lag behind the more specialized civs. This is mostly made up for by the fact that we can make a strong army for cheaper than most civs. Theres not much I would change about this civ. But to help their late game I would give them the Heavy Scorpion. Just so we have some sort of power unit. [link] [comments] | ||

I personally use this sheet on my second screen when I'm playing. I have a nasty habit of forgetting small things so this reminds me of those when playing against more obscure civs. I mean, i never knew that Khmer elephants were so speedy! My idea for Vietnamese rework. Posted: 07 Jan 2020 05:44 AM PST First. Their unique unit. The rattan archer seems kinda useless when you can make imperial skirms. Their unique techs are kinda bad. One buffs their battle eles hp. Fine by itself but is it really necessary? The other... Well. It gives everyone on the team gold. I propose: Get rid of the elephant unique tech. Instead merge it with the archer bonus: Battle elephants and archers have 20% increased hp. They need a new castle age tech. I propose: Rattan archers. Your archers move 10% faster and have +2 pierce armor. Remove the rattan archer. Replace it with a new unique unit. I didnt put much thought into this one but: Guerilla warrior: Infantry Unit. Does not warn enemies when attacked by this unit (No "You are being attacked by -player!-) Again there's likely way better ideas out there. So what about the imperial skirmisher? Why we need ELO for unranked games Posted: 06 Jan 2020 02:47 PM PST As someone with over 1000 hours played on AOE HD, I feel I've a good bit of experience with the game. HD had its problems, like the time they broke ELO for months, but for the most part it was easy to find a balanced and fair match. The removing of ELO from games found in the lobby browser is really hurting my enjoyment of the game. It's almost impossible to tell what skill level you're going up against, which often leads to wildly unbalanced teams and really one sided games. Yes I know I could play ranked for a more fair challenge, but ranked forces a random map from a pool, it's too restrictive. Me and 3 friends play AOE2 most weekends and have done for years. I honestly love the definitive edition and think that most of the changes made to online have been great (since the Cumans were patched). I really hope the devs see this post and consider adding an unranked ELO system. The last few weekends we've been pretty much unbeaten and it's not because we're amazing players (~1680 ELO on HD). It's just very hard to find a fair game that is unranked. This isn't meant as a negative rant about the game, we all love it and love the passion the community and development team have for the game. Posted: 06 Jan 2020 04:55 PM PST Aside from their naming similarities (both have a "2" in their name) I find it quite interesting that so many Civs are represented in both games: Franks, Britons, Cumans, Persians, Mongols, Aztecs, Berbers, Slavs, etc. That made me think that maybe both games could be connected in the lore somehow. How to deal with castle drop from MANY villagers, not just a few Posted: 07 Jan 2020 06:32 AM PST I know it is possible to stop a castle drop by building two towers and shooting down the building villagers, but not when there are many many villagers building it. What if the opponent just builds castles within range of your tcs with so many villagers you cant stop it from going up and it goes up so fast? I have lost many many games due to castles dropped right in the middle of my base, for example I am microing elsewhere and suddenly there is a castle in the middle of my base and I lose all farms and TC. It seems super hard to prevent, it isn't always possible to use walls all around your tcs everytime you play either. They can even quick wall in their building villagers so that only your ranged units and hastily built towers can attack. And each castle takes out your whole eco, your farms and TC and any buildings you have nearby. Honestly I'm at a loss how not to keep losing games to aggressive castles..... Tips? I would have got killed off a lot earlier in the game if I wasn't Incas and didn't have my beefed up vills. Got to say I'm absolutely fuming inside, and whoever that Canadian was I was playing, fuck you. It's nearly 2am here in Scotland and you're lucky I'm off work tomorrow and entertained it for so long. Canadians are meant to be friendly people, but I guess that's not fucking true. You have done your country a true disservice and are an absolute fucking disgrace to the flag. After this, I initially I tore down both the opponents towns, but the game dragged on and they gradually attritioned me away. Advise on what to do in this situation?
