    Sweden gameplay and unit speculation

    Posted: 08 Sep 2020 10:02 AM PDT

Hi all, really hyped for DE and especially the Swedes. I remember hears a while ago that they were cut content and was sad we would never be able to play them, but lo and behold they will be arriving very soon with the DE.

Now all we know about Sweden is that they will be an aggressive faction as stated from interviews and steam. However, we can speculate pretty accurately based on the Carolean army at the time. The Caroleans were the Swedish fighting forced of the 17th and early 18th centuries.

Sweden's army was known for it's incredible efficiency but relativity small size of their army. The Swedes favored close quarters combat after a few volleys from the muskets. This strategy was called GÃ¥–PÃ¥ , which translates to go on, which involved the soldiers marched/running till 50 meters away form the enemy, then they would fire their salvo and charge into melee with Pike, Bayonet, and rapier. Sweden notably used Pikes extensively with great effectiveness into the early 1700s, even though they were slowly fading away from most other European armies. This all contributed to the aforementioned GÃ¥–PÃ¥ tactics. So we need to see a strong aggressive shock tactics from the Swedish faction.

So what Units do I want/have seen.

    1. Carolean: We already see in the announcement and screenshots a Swedish musketeer units that look quite different than any unit we have seen. They seem to have a Sword on their side. I assume this is their unique ranged unit. They should be capable in melee against other infantry and a superior musk replacement .
    2. Unique Pike/upgrades: Pike men are already in the game and Sweden may not need a unique unit of them but rather some shipments that buff them to make them more effective in close combat with infantry. As Pikes played a big role in Swedish tactics.
    3. Hakkapeliitta: we need some Finnish love and to those of you that don't know Finland was under control of Sweden for Hundreds of years and contributed a lot to the countries military. The Hakkapeliitta were a famous Finnish light cav that is already in the game and should be recruitable for the Swedes.
    4. Unique Swedish Artillery: Honestly i don't know what this would be but we see a unique artillery unit in the DE trailer when going over Sweden (this could be an updated model for DE).
    5. any other units you guys want to see?

Last but not least we still do not know who Sweden's ruler is. My choice is between 2. Gustavus Adolphus or Charles the 12th also known as Carolus Rex. Both were Strategic masterminds that led Sweden in some of its most important wars. Gustavus propelled Sweden to become a European power in the 30 years war, and Charles who led the Swedes in the Great Northern War.

Edit: Sorry seems a post below me did some unit spec too.

    Landsknechte

Why is the "10 landsknechte" card of germany so unpopular? I use it every game and the siege and tank abilities of them are insane

How diverse are player skills in online these days?

    Posted: 08 Sep 2020 08:07 AM PDT

My dad and sister and I used to play this game a bunch a while ago, and we decided that we wanted to get together tonight for some 3v3s, but I assume we won't want to play against the AI the whole time. How diverse are the skills of the people still playing? I don't think it would be very fun if everyone has level 130 home cities and just crushes us outright, but we know enough that I wouldn't feel comfortable joining a "noob" lobby, though I'm not quite sure what level that would be either.

I still play aoe2 but usually let the ranked system deal with matchmaking in that game.

will aoe 3 DE have new/reworked maps?

How will multiplayer work on the definitive edition?

    Posted: 08 Sep 2020 11:50 AM PDT

Will it be through the ESOC patch (which I still don't understand)? Or will it be native through the actual game?

I heard there is a way to make new accounts without buying additional copies of the game

    Posted: 08 Sep 2020 05:33 PM PDT

I know some people who have 10 account or so, and they only bought 1 copy.

Does anyone know how this works?
