    Hooray! Another match up I am pretty sure I've never seen/played 11

    Hello and welcome back for another Age of Empires 2 civilization match up discussion! This is a series where we discuss the various advantages, disadvantages, and quirks found within the numerous match ups of the game. The goal is to collectively gain a deeper understanding of how two civilizations interact with each other in a variety of different settings. Feel free to ask questions, pose strategies, or provide insight on how the two civilizations in question interact with each other on any map type and game mode. This is not limited to 1v1 either. Feel free to discuss how the civilizations compare in team games as well! So long as you are talking about how the two civilizations interact, anything is fair game! Last week we discussed the Bulgarians vs Indians, and next up is the Lithuanians vs Malay!

    Lithuanians: Cavalry and Monk civilization

    • Start with +150f
    • Spearmen and Skirmishers move +10% faster
    • Each garrisoned relic grants +1 additional attack to Knights and Leitis (+4 attack max.)
    • TEAM BONUS: Monasteries work +20% faster
    • Unique Unit: Leitis (Medium cavalry whose already high base attack also ignores armor)
    • Castle Age Unique Tech: Hill Forts (Town Centers +3 range)
    • Imperial Age Unique Tech: Tower Shields (Spearmen and Skirmishers +0/+2 armor)

    Malay: Navaland Infantry civilization

    • Advancing in Age is +66% faster
    • Fish Traps cost -33%; provide unlimited food
    • Battle Elephants cost -30%
    • TEAM BONUS: Docks +100% LoS
    • Unique Unit: Karambit Warrior (Cheap, incredibly weak infantry that only takes up 0.5 pop)
    • Unique Building: Harbor (Dock upgrade that adds moderate defensive capabilities)
    • Castle Age Unique Tech: Thalassocracy (Upgrades Docks to Harbors)
    • Imperial Age Unique Tech: Forced Levy (Swordsmen cost 80f instead of 60f, 20g)

    Below are some match up-specific talking points to get you all started. These are just to give people ideas, you do not need to address them specifically if you do not want to!

    • Okay... theorycrafting time! For 1v1 Arabia, Lithuanians have a very strong start with their extra resources, but Malay will have the much stronger eco as the game drags on - provided they do not suffer damage due to their weaker early Feudal Age. Army comp-wise, Lithuanian cavalry + Monks + trash seems to me better than Malay Archers + Elephants + trash, although the former is certainly more expensive than the latter. What do you guys think?
    • On Arena, both of these civs are absolutely top tier. Malay Age up bonus allows them one of the best economies in the game, as well as possessing strong Archers, Monks, and infantry. Meanwhile, Lithuanians can go for a very quick Castle Age followed up by a Monk rush or a straight boom. To me, the onus is on the Malay player to deny relics, lest they get completely steamrolled in Imperial Age. How do you see this one going on clown town?
    • In team games, Lithuanians are just outside the very best pocket civs, as are Malay when it comes to flank civs. Lithuanians have all the devastating military options they need, but lack the persistent eco bonus. Malay meanwhile have an excellent eco, but are vulnerable to laming and miss a strong military bonus. Which civ do you think better serves their respective positions?

    ... is the chatting to your opponent afterwards to dissect what's happened and offer congratulations/commiserations. I have had so many lovely post-match conversations with opponents, offering/receiving tips and asking questions about different strategies. (My ELO is around 1200)

    This is the friendliest gaming community I've ever found in ranked. I wonder if it's maybe because everyone is a little bit older, given it's a 20 year old game. No matter what it is, let's try not to lose that magic.

    They stand in one spot for years on end waiting for a near defenseless villager to walk by when they suddenly make a beeline for her, ignoring everything else -even being injured itself- to go for the kill.

    If they do manage to kill her they don't get any sustenance from the corpse. They kill purely for the sport. Then immediately off to their next victim.

    These are demon dogs.

    Desert and snow maps hurt my eyes, it's too bright. I don't like having to constantly start like 3 or 4 games to find a temperate biome.

    ive been watching viper and heras games and ive noticed they have set their control groups above the minimap and the minimap in the middle
    i was wondering how can i do this cause the control groups are in the corner and sometimes i forget i set them

    Instant resingning?

    I just started playing ranked and out of my 6 games i had 3 times when my opponent resigned in a few minutes without chatting anything. Do you know any reason for that? There was no real score difference and i dont think i did anything to provoke that, most of the times i havent even scouted them. Pretty annoying since my real skill is way below 1000 elo and now my score wont go down and im stuck with playing 1000 elo guys who cripple my eco with their first wave of scout rush😀 should i also just instantly resing in a few games to lower my elo? Isnt that considered a dick move?

    Can you spot the difference between Barracks being disabled and Archery Range being disabled? It shows the icon of Archery Ranges/Stables, but not Barracks and Palisade Defenses. Similarly noticed Trade Cart being disabled but visible and Crop Rotation being invisible. Can someone explain it to me?

    A question about build speed

    Hi all! So I looked on the wiki and couldn't get a definitive answer on this, what's the optimal amount of villagers to build a tower? A castle? Does building HP effect build time? If so would Byzantine buildings take longer to make? And how does the Spanish civ bonus of 30% faster build rate work if multiple villagers are assigned to one building? Even an answer to one of these would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

    Game Freezing

    Historically I haven't had any issues playing DE. But since the Hot Fix, every one of my multiplayer games freeze up - both ranked and un-ranked.

    The game doesn't say I dropped, or that anyone else has dropped... just freezes, and I have to quit the game in order to move on.

    Is it broken, or is it just me?

    Allow us to lock gates while they are still being built

    Gate blocking a scout or drush and then having one vill stand too close to the middle or randomly path through it foiled too many mastapieces.

    If I was good enough to do it I would be very disappointed in my traitorous villagers

    Just give the gates the lock ability while building so it locks the gate directly when it finishes.
