I did 100+ Drush FC grind reps and this is what happened.

    https://preview.redd.it/1poeh69anm551.png?width=903&format=png&auto=webp&s=058d84742f281b80b54a09dc3319f62fda147489

Everyone tells each other to practice, but I really don't hear about what people actually do and what they get from it. So I decided to share my experience, and hopefully get some insight in return.

What I was doing was 32+2 Drush FC in Arabia vs Hard AI, and recorded the time exceeded the ideal time when I click Castle (13:50). When I pathetically ragequitted, I counted it as +180 sec.

In the first half, I just produced 3 mils and did not raid. The rest I tried to raid + wall up.

From that, I think the important take from this is...

    1. Thank god I'm improving. It's not really clear by just seeing the bars, but if the trendline is to be believed, I'm cutting about 2 secs per 5 reps. Even if I remove +180 secs data from ragequitting, the trend remains in a similar fashion.
    2. I did NOT feel I was improving until I made the chart. It was a really good idea to back this up with some evidence, otherwise, I might have lost motivation.
    3. I still have much room to improve. Honestly, my goal is achieving under +30 secs constantly, but I'm not even close to clicking in under +60 secs constantly yet. Probably I need another 200 reps?

Obviously, nothing special was happening, but this kind of practice story is what I'm curious about and looking after. Did any of you have a similar experience? Or if you are talented and young do you better after just 10 reps? Are there better/different methods?

Can't win TG without rushing in feudal

    Posted: 18 Jun 2020 02:16 AM PDT

    Hello there,

A friend & I play 2v2 ranked often (~1200 elo) and we have the following situation.

If I do a scout rush (Magyars mainly) and he an archer rush (any archer civ) in feudal, we win about 4 out of 5 games.

If we don't rush, and start combat in castle age, we lose 2 out of 3.

Is this a common thing? We would like to improve and win without rushing early. Our late game lacks. I think the main problem for me is spending resources. I often end up floating and not spending 2k gold for example.

    History of the voice recordings?

    Posted: 18 Jun 2020 03:57 AM PDT

Are there any making ofs or bits of information on how the devs of AoK/AoC did the voice recordings for the units? I mean the voice files for the different civilizations. Would be interesting, because the old German and its pronunciation for example are pretty accurate for a game so they definitely got in touch with some experts there. On the other hand I heard that they messed up the Aztecs for example, what went wrong there?

    Armor vs. Health pool

    Posted: 18 Jun 2020 05:24 AM PDT

Hi all, recently watched a SOTL vid on Teutons paladins being possibly better than Frankish paladins and it got me wondering, is more armor better than more health? Examples: Burmese elephants vs. Vietnamese elephants, Lithuanian elite skirms vs Vietnamese elite skirms, etc.

    Standardized buildings

    Posted: 18 Jun 2020 06:08 AM PDT

    Hey!

Do you know of any mod that makes all civs building look the same? I struggle finding my buildings with some civs, (I should just use hotkeys, I know) so a mod like that would be gamechanging for me!

How much does a civ's architecture set matter to you when determining your favourite civs?

    Posted: 18 Jun 2020 01:17 AM PDT

I'm just curious because I get the impression it's not terribly important for a lot of people, but it can be a dealbreaker for me haha.

For example, in terms of pure gameplay I actually like the Goths the best, but I'm not a fan of that architecture set. If I had Goth gameplay, but like with the Mesoamerican or African architecture sets, I'd be 100% all over that.

    2v2 RM bug ?

    Posted: 18 Jun 2020 02:30 AM PDT

    Hello everyone,

Yesterday I played some 2v2 RM. Long story short, my teammate get destroyed really early and resigned. Still I was doing great so I kept playing, up until the point where I could hold both of them and even destroy their base and economy.

At some point, one of them resigned and then the game kind of froze. I could go all over the map and select any unit or building, exactly the same way after a game normally end. The thing is that the 2nd enemy didn't seem to have resigned. So I waited 5-10 min like that and then quit just to see that it was counted as a lose.

Is it some kind of known bug ? Did it happen to any of you ?

    Thank you all in advance

I Peter Principle'd my team RM ELO and I don't deserve it.

    Posted: 17 Jun 2020 10:42 PM PDT

My team RM ELO is waaaaay too high. Maybe I'm a good punching bag in team games and that gives my team the chance to land a finisher, but holy cow.

Anyone else feeling pretty undeserving of their ELO?

    Regicide Civ Bonuses

    Posted: 17 Jun 2020 03:40 PM PDT

Just for fun, suppose that Regicide were a much bigger deal in competitive aoe2 as a game mode, such that the devs gave certain civs bonuses that made them better at Regicide for whatever reason. Or maybe every civ has a unique regicide bonus just for the hell of it, like how every civ has a team bonus. It might be historical or for balance or just to mix things up a little. What civs would get which bonuses and why?

Some civs already have some advantages that play into the game mode, for example cav archer civs can easily snipe kings, and civs like Byzantines and teutons have castles that can last longer and are more formidable. But I'm talking about direct bonuses. Here are some examples, some pretty tame, some more absurd:

    • Kings have 50% more HP
    • Kings +2 melee armor per age
    • Kings +2 pierce armor per age
    • Kings can convert enemy units
    • Kings can heal units very quickly
    • Kings move 15% faster
    • Kings deal +10 damage per age
    • Kings generate gold/food/wood/stone as they fight
    • Kings can garrison inside any building
    • Kings garrisoned in buildings fire cannonballs
    • Starting castle has x2 HP
    • Start with 2 Kings
    • Start with 2 castles
    • Killing an enemy king gives you an extra one
    • Receives a Queen in Imperial age (super unit, as a chess analogy)
    • Gain +1 Fake King per age (mindgames)
    • Kings can gather resources at x1/x2/x4/x8 normal rate at each age
    • Starting castle can train villagers starting in castle age
    • Kings generate gold/wood/food/stone at the rate of a relic for the entire team as long as they are alive
    • Start with a mounted king (which can be dismounted)
    • Infantry/Archers/Cavalry deal +5 damage vs royal units
    • Kings +2 LoS per age
    • Enemy Kings revealed on the map
    • King upgraded to Emperor upon imperial age
    • When your king dies, allied players recieve +1000 of every resource

Does anybody else have any creative ideas/feedback?

    Best Civ for Every Rush

    Posted: 17 Jun 2020 03:44 PM PDT

Hello! I was just wondering what people though the best civilizations for every rush are. Like which civs have the strongest archer rush; knight rush, drush, Maa rush, etc.

Struggling to beat the hard AI, any suggestions.

    Posted: 17 Jun 2020 12:34 PM PDT

So I just started playing this game again but properly this time and the hard AI is beating me so far each time I face it.

I've been playing as the Persians so I can go for mass crossbows cheaply with some knights and mangonels if they have something to counter crossbows. But I suck at micro and the AI seems to come with an endless seem of troops that eventually overwhelms me.

Last time they sent some wagon things that I have no idea how to counter and just wiped out anything I threw at them.

Any suggestions or tips on what to do as Persians?

    Regicide Agression Rewards

    Posted: 17 Jun 2020 12:00 PM PDT

Does anyone know a way to modify regicide to reward players with either bonus resources or population cap when they are the ones to kill a king?

I don't see any way to get regicide in the scenario editor much less additional changes.
