- Just played the Bulgarians-Goths matchup for the first time. These are my thoughs:

AoE2 in one sentence "I did not notice" Posted: 05 Jul 2020 03:46 AM PDT I started playing AoE2 DE in February. I used to play the ogirinal game when I was younger but not with a competitive mindset. When I started playing, the game felt overwhelming, so many things to do, so many things to think about, so many clicks that are hard to execute, so many civilizations, so many units, so many units that are viable counters but not always. Most importantly, so many things to be aware of. I played some Starcraft 2 when it came out and something I loved about it is how easy it was to be aware of everything that was happening. There are less unit types, the workers need little to no micro the maps are less open and more importantly the UI is way more clear. When a unit gets attacked in Starcraft 2 you get a sound warning you about it, just like in AoE2, except the sound does not repeat too often and it is different when a building is under attack and when your units are under attack. The alert can also be seen on the minimap while in AoE2 there is a small square that appears on the map but it disappears very fast and the same square is used for any other event. For instance here you can see two squares, one for the unit being attacked and one for a unit being created. This last example is a very simple situation with units fighting at the same place and yet it is already confusing. I found that all my defeats can be summarized to one thing, "I did not notice". I did not notice one of the scout hitting a different wall. I did not notice the hole in my wall. I did not notice the villager doing nothing after building a quick wall. I did not notice the scout running into the enemy TC. I did not notice the hussars into my base killing half my villagers. I did not notice the units doing nothing. I did not notice the tower being built in the middle of my base. Don't get me wrong. I love this game, I love how many options there are, how many styles we can adopt but it feels like this is something I will be able to enjoy in many years once I'll be able to follow what's happening on the map. Posted: 05 Jul 2020 07:15 AM PDT So I did the achievement for unlocking that cheat code and used it successfully, but after my hdd fried i reinstalled the game on my ssd. Now every time I type going above and beyond in a single player game, it doesn't show up as text in the cat, but nothing changes in the game. [link] [comments] | ||
Posted: 04 Jul 2020 09:43 PM PDT As I get higher in ELO (currently 14xx-15xx on DE) I run across people who lame (stealing sheep or boar) more often, and I wanted to see what other people think about this topic. For me, this is a game - it's not my job, it's just a fun game I've played for 21 years. And even though it's a game, I try real hard at winning when I play. I'm not out there practicing to get to Viper's level, and I go days/weeks/months/years without playing sometimes, but when I do play, I try to win. But IT'S A GAME, NOT ACTUAL WAR, so I don't lame. It's like how boxing and MMA are not ACTUAL fights-to-the-death, so there are rules/etiquette against shots to the groin, biting, ripping off ears, hand-choking the neck, etc. etc., because while those would make you win more easily, it's not sporting. That's how I feel about laming. Sure, if it's a tournament with thousands of dollars on the line, play to the fullest extent possible allowed by the rules of the game, including laming. But for a casual/rated game, where the only thing to be won is internet points, laming seems like the equivalent of the aforementioned "low-blow" in what is supposed to be a friendly competition. The people i used to play with dont really have the time anymore, so i'd like to meet new likeminded people to play with. I'm Snufflingmuffin, my timezone is european, gmt+1, and im at the skill level where i win against the extreme ai about 60-70% of the time. Countering mass Huskarls in campaign Posted: 05 Jul 2020 07:36 AM PDT Hi, so I'm currently on the fifth mission of the Alaric campaign, but Saurus' (purple) swarms of Huskarls are giving me real trouble, I managed to severly weaken yellow and red so far, but I've run out of gold sources which are very rare and starting gold as well and Huskarls just swarm over trash units. Would it be worthwhile market trading for gold for Cavaliers? Champions don't seem to really have a big leg up over them at least. [link] [comments] | ||
Posted: 05 Jul 2020 07:33 AM PDT The title is self explanatory. There is ALWAYS somebody that disconnects even before the game starts AND the worst thing is that the losing team loses ELO. Everybody praises the devs I say f*** them. 8 months and the game is still unplayable, the pathing is horrendous and no hotjoin/reconnect feature but hey we have "events" and new profile pictures for the trash/casual zoomers so they feel like they have accomplished something without putting any effort oh wait like in the real life. Posted: 05 Jul 2020 06:17 AM PDT Rubbish goths player here, ELO 1000ish. Just came up a player who had Mayan Elite Plumed Archers which just seemed to shred my huskarls and skirmishers. I was trying to mass them. Then eventually I would send them in on "spread" formation, but they were just getting blitzed. Admittedly I had forgot to upgrade them to Elite (I'm good at getting the essential upgrades... then somehow always miss this... FFS) which explains some of it. But I was stunned at just how fucking ordinarily they would perform even once they got the chance to melee. Even my elite Skirmishers were getting slammed by these things. These archers were fanned our in an arc, meanwhile my skirmishers couldn't fucking organise a piss up in a brewery let alone spread out and offer some resistance. I have the habit of just clicking the closest available archer with 30 skirms, should I be using the patrol key? Where am I fucking up? Thanks for the help. [link] [comments] | ||
