    The year 1999, the place Wollongong NSW, Australia. The event, the release of AoE2-The Age of Kings.

    In Australia the game was released just in time for Christmas 99. I remember basically forgoing almost half a pay cheque just so I could buy it. I was only 27 at the time and pay packets weren't real big back then.

    When I played my first game, the WW tutorial I was amazed at how much unit control we had compared to AoE. Not to mention you could garrison your units in TC's, Towers and Castles.

    That was 21 years ago and I'm still loving this game. With the help of this awesome community I've improved my game play, getting gold on Art of War over the weekend, won my first ranked online game Saturday just gone (I've recently started playing again after a lengthy break) and am still learning new things about this game.

    I wonder what the next couple years will do for this ageless and continuously replay able game???

    I ran into this on Mediterranean and thought it was pretty funny, never seen this before from the map gen. Also he was released by the end of the game, my opponent freed him from his prison. His civilization collapsed shortly after.

    QuarantineChris is a joy to watch

    It's so incredibly fun watching him stream.

    • A legend (before my time) and in a week already up to 1800 level. Beat T90 his second day back.
    • Going random and learning the new civs as he streams. Really fun watching him play Lithuanians for the first time.
    • Incredibly chill, dude is having fun.
    • Sick beats in the background.
    • Calls it "echo", short for economy.

    • Just randomly clicks his farms around. Doesn't even try to keep them close to the mill. Quantity over quality. Literally unstoppable with Khmer.

    What are people's thoughts on Scorpions?

    I've mainly playing TG Arena and have been trialing out the better scorp civs.

    Khmer always felt like the best with the extra range and extra bolt, great eco and able to spam Hussars for days for a meat shield. Just keep the scorps around your trebs and you're laughing.

    Since the buff a few months back I'm really liking Ethiopian scorps with Torsion Engines. Being able to back them up with BBC really helps dealing with onagers. Halbs in front for the meat shield.

    Chinese seem really strong but the lack of range really seems to put them in too many vunerable situations against onagers and ranged units.

    A Khmer ally really helps Chinese and makes Ethiopians even better.

    Celts.... I just don't think they're as good as Khmer/Ethiopians. Better than the rest just not top two.

    Anyway which civ do you rank as the best for scorpions? Am I wrong about the Celts?

    being a beginner player, i joined a 2v2 noob only.
    it had a nomadic start and having not really done that before i was a bit slow on how to get started
    i got scout rushed at minuted 13 or something like that and got like 5 villagers killed so i quit cause i dont see myself (and my teammate who was only very slightly ahead of me) coming back from that (especially as i only barely had 1 barrack).
    that had me confused as what people mean with noob only?
    but that guy clearly had the knowledge how to a decently timed scout rush. which felt very odd placed

    should i have specified as beginner? or was that guy just a bit douchey

    Yesterday I reached out for some help with my gameplay and you guys really helped me out! Today I defeated the AI on moderate difficulty which may seem laughable but for me it's a huge achievement. You guys recommended Spirit if the Law and he helped a lot. I just wanted to thank you for how supportive you were and tell you to watch out because soon I'll be on the leaderboards (give or take a few years).

    Next step is getting used to using my keyboard—the keybinds are scary for me and I've just been using my mouse. Any tips? Thanks!
