    Happens all the time

I was wondering if it was normal to still suck that much after so many hours put into the game, so I investigated. Here is the average ELO by number of games played.

    First multiplayer after 19 years

    Posted: 29 Sep 2020 06:25 AM PDT

I played my first ranked games last night, after playing aoe2 off and on for 19 years. It was a blast! The players were nice (or at worst silent), and i credit them and this community for giving me the courage to finally hit that red and black shield. Friendly players make games survive and thrive. Here's to 19 more years!

League of Empires Season 1 Update

    Posted: 29 Sep 2020 03:46 AM PDT

League of Empires Season 1 Update

4 weeks into season 1 things are starting to shape up nicely.

    Division 1:

CDL have continued with their strong form and remain top of the league but Russia F are close on their heels and could easily overtake them if CDL stumble. Still plenty of games to play for most of the other teams with only Norwegian Bastards left to get off the mark.

    Division 2:

Not many games in division 2 in the last 2 weeks but Parabellum have maintained their 100% record and sit top with Social Jaguar Warriors and Age of Mandalas also unbeaten sat just behind.

    Division 3:

The battle for top of division 3 is fierce with Persian Douche United slipping from 1st a couple of weeks ago down to 4th and Nepo Clan taking the lead for now. Player 1 and Karambite Me are also performing well. With most of the teams below them having played few games there is a strong possibility of the table changing signficantly.

    Division 4:

Cunning Linguist slip from the top spot but with no games in the last 2 weeks they have got plenty of potential to retake it. Distant Lands sit in 1st for now but Zoom and Boom have also been playing well and Psychos have just got going and are unbeaten in their first 2 games.

With games coming in thick and fast we are still looking for Casters interested in broadcasting some of the games, if you are interested head over to the discord and we can get you setup.

    Awesome community

    Posted: 28 Sep 2020 07:01 PM PDT

I was playing a 1v1 earlier today, and I had to pause the game for about a minute, to which my opponent obliged. After a minute, it turned into something that would be about 5 minutes, which I let my opponent know.

I said do you mind waiting, or I'll resign right now and you get the win. To my surprise my opponent graciously waited.

There are some really nice people in this community. The good ones far outweigh the bad. This is a big part of the reason I enjoy playing Aoe2.

    Archers vs Knights

    Posted: 29 Sep 2020 03:51 AM PDT

Hi, I'm fairly new to AOE2, enjoy it a lot but having some trouble.

I'm around 1000 ELO (1v1) with about 30 ranked games played, I've managed to correct many mistakes and in my last games I was quite happy overall (lots of room for improvement but still), I'm managing to always keep an eye on my eco, have good map control, especially of the neutral gold, not allowing res to float too much etc.

Started with a goth full feudal with forward barrack in dark age, had fun with it but grew old, so I'm trying the 23pop archer build, with ethiopians and mayans, so far so good, unless I play against people going for knights.

In the last game I faced a similarly skilled foe who went for scouts and sort of FC>knights (is that a build?). I managed to give the first hit, did quite some damage with some vil picks (I think 4-5, and lots of idle time), ended up loosing like 7-8 archers but took some of his scouts, and most importantly I was able to prepare for his raid, ended up not losing a single vil. Then he went for skirms and I started producing eagle warriors to take care of them and keep pressuring his eco. He got to castle age earlier than me, but wasn't quick enough to hit me with his knights so I had xbows waiting and we kept going back and forth.
I gained control of much of the golds (he didn't look really interested in fighting for map control), had a more productive eco, but ended up being crushed by a forward castle taking my front gold and his cavaliers coupled with skirms and trebuchets.

I had all kind of advantages, gold, map control, pop and army size, but I got crushed. So, what to do with an archer build against cav? Pikes look so slow against those things, I'm sure I made a mistake going full arbalest and eagle warriors, not sustainable, but I didn't see many alternatives, pikes would get shredded by the massed skirms, cavs go too fast. Any advice?

Also, how to keep your scout alive in the early stages? 3 out of 4 games I lose it by vil aggression plus opponent scout chasing etc, it's really hurting me since I don't generally go for cavalry so building a stable just for a scout doesn't look the best option.

How do you win on Arena when you are on the defensive?

    Posted: 29 Sep 2020 07:36 AM PDT

If you are in the situation that you have no map control, but you still have resources and are not going to starve out anytime soon. How do you win then? When I am in this situation, I face these two main problems:

1: I have no vision of what my opponent is doing. They can easily tech switch in complete secrecy. Or prepare a castle drop or something.

2: I have no room for buildings. In imp fights you need a lot of production buildings, but those can't fit inside your base. Farm space is also an issue.

Or is this already gg territory? It feels silly to resign in a situation, in which I still have resources, eco and army. But I know that my opponent will replenish their losses faster.

Anyone experience this bug w/ Korean Towers?

    Posted: 28 Sep 2020 11:26 PM PDT

Korean towers, not sure if this applies to all civs, cannot hit villagers repairing a mangonel. The arrow fires out, and does no damage. This bug has existed for at least 4 months.

    Adjusting to new Arabia help

    Posted: 28 Sep 2020 08:24 PM PDT

So I've been sitting comfortably at 1150-1250 (DE) for months now. I hadn't really been able to improve too much, I still struggled a lot when lamed and adjusting to bad map types. However, the new map changes to Arabia have been devestating - I dropped to 1036 in just 3 days. The strategies I felt most comfortable with were either going drush fast castle or going feudal scouts. But suddenly, these strategies are just not cutting it on Arabia for me. Has anyone else noticed a sudden shift in the meta? Is anyone else adopting a different strategy for Arabia that I'm not catching on to?

How to send units close to an enemy building without hitting the attack hitbox?

    Posted: 29 Sep 2020 05:02 AM PDT

On multiple occasions now I have spotted an enemy building a forward or defensive castle/TC. Various scenarios mean I do not or cannot walk my archers around it or to the side. Therefore, I want to place them as close to the foundations of it as I can so they can attack the villagers building it.

Unfortunately, it appears the hitbox on the foundation is massive (off the top of my head I would guess at 2 maybe even 3 tiles) and I can't get close enough to it to attack the villagers without attacking the foundation. Is there a way I can get around this, please?
