    Hello everyone! I have received clarification from the team about the fix implemented last Friday:

    • Out of an abundance of caution, additional safeguards have been added to the mod manager to ensure player-created mods do not incorrectly alter the expected mod install path and only remove the files included with the mod when unsubscribing / removing them from the game.

    Due to the complexity of the problem noted here, we ask that anyone directly affected—not those reporting on behalf of others—contact our support team so they can collect information and work with you directly in regards to the problem you are experiencing.

    Edit: We also have another update scheduled for later this week with additional safeguards for potential incompatibilities.

    Thank you all, again, for your diligence in reporting this issue, as well as your patience as the team works with those affected!

    I have made many bug reports over the lifetime of age of empires about modify protounit being the most important effect in the scenario editor, and about it not working in the 15 years age of empires has been out. Can we PLEASE just push to have this effect fixed? There is no way to increase a units damage by a specific amount without using a technology, setting it to unobtainable, and setting it again. That is a bullshit way to have to increase your damage stats. Besides that you have very little control doing it that way.

    We NEED a modify protounit that actually works, and that allows you to set a stat to a specific number, increment it by a specific number, or decrease it by a specific number. Why has this not happened in 15 years? This is quite literally the most important aspect of the entire scenario editor and it is completely broken. Every other strategy game with a map editor that is worth a damn has this. Rise & Fall Civilizations at war has it, supreme commander has it, it worked in Age of Mythology, Age of Empires 1, Age of Empires 2, and Star wars galactic battlegrounds. It works in starcraft 2 (albeit a little different but you still have control).

    Why does age of empires 3 get essentially no editor control and yet all these other games have great editors with working effects?

    Will someone please finally make some posts about this besides me? Imagine how many great scenarios we never got to see because people couldn't effectively have control over this aspect of the editor.

    Unit unselected after Building

    I dont know if its a bug or smth:

    When i select a vill or my explorer, click on a building icon for example a house, and left click to place it, the unit gets unselected the moment i put down the building. This was not the case when i played the game the last time (last week thursday i guess). I can only prevent this by holding down shift.

    Did they patch in a new option? Or what causes this?

    PSA: Native Scouts can be trained from the War Chief without sending the new card

    All you need to do is send the normal "Advanced Scouts" card that turns your Native Scouts into killing machines and you can train them from both your TC and your War Chief (as long as you're Lakota or Haudenosaunee, for some reason it doesn't work with Aztecs).

    With the DE patch they added a new card that reads: "Delivers 4 Native Scouts and enables your War Chief to recruit additional scouts." Sounded like a decent buff to the Native Scout strategy, as you would be able to (with 2 cards) turn your War Chief into a full time barracks for some pretty strong Native Scouts instead of needing to use your TC to train them. However, this functionality also applying to the Advanced Scouts card makes it go back to needing only 1 card for the strategy.

    Anyway this is a straight buff to the Advanced Scouts card and seeing as it was unlisted in the patch notes, it's probably unintended. In my (admittedly very low-rank games) I have not yet lost when using the Lakota Native Scout Rush.

    Multiplayer Interfaces

    I just downloaded the game after its most recent update, and I have to say the multiplayer interface is absolute shit. I mean complete shit.

    What happened to being able to view a users profile? Viewing decks, most played home cities, etc. Why would they remove that? A users profile is what made them unique.

    Why isn't there a reconnect feature? Considering 50% of the games crash (mine included) why would this not be implemented?

    Clans are super boring, not sure if any AOE has gotten this right though. It's literally just a board with random names in it and a message board. Would it have been that hard to have added a few clan features?

    I also hate the fact that they removed our rankings (corporal, 1st/2nd lieut, conscript, etc.) Those were so unique, now its just some boring ass number based on MMR.

    If you're going to remaster a game, the bare minimum it should have is every single thing the original had. Anything added should either be balance changes, or additional features. Shit like this should not be removed. This feels like a 'lite' version of the original.

    So hear me out,

    I just noticed something weird about the game. A couple of people did it to me and then I tried it and it worked. I used 2 of my alternate accounts to test the bug.

    So while the game is doing the countdown to start a game, players are able to leave the game. The game will start and continue as if both players were in game. If you do not scout the enemy base, you will not notice that there is no opponent. If you leave without killing opponent, it will count as a loss.

    The second bug.

    While the countdown is happening a player is able to leave the game. The OP can can cancel the countdown and return back into the waiting area. However, the game will no longer show up in the multiplayer browsing section. So nobody will know that you are waiting for players to join.

    In both scenarios, the buttons in the game stop working and the OP needs to create a new game for people to join.

    I'm currently sitting at a 0% winrate against the Chinese Civilization. Any tips against them?

    So, I've been playing a lot of AoE3:DE recently and so far I've encountered most civs except Indians, Portuguese and Dutch.

    Its been back and forth, I've been winning games and losing games, its ok. But, there is one civ that I just can't win against: The Chinese.

    Either I'm playing Russians or British (the 2 civs I've been somewhat ok at), I just get overrun by the chinese all the time.

    I've just lost a game where I managed to rush and kill a few villagers but somehow it doesn't seem to matter, my opponent still got to amass a huuuuuuuuuge army of cavalry & chu-ko-nu while all I had were a few Musketeers and Cossacks.

    How do you deal with the Chinese? Are they a top-tier civ that I should be aware of? How come they don't seem to slow down even after being rushed?

    EDIT: I should mention that I'm fairly new to AoE3 Online, never gave much attention to its Multiplayer component before Definitive Edition.

    can't build walls

    i literally cannot build walls. this game is such a travesty. i loved aoe 3 and played it. DE is supposed to be better but there are so many bugs and issues it is absolutely tilting. not being able to build walls makes the game UNPLAYABLE and is completely stupid. Teh game crashes, units get stuck next to trade posts.

    Disconnects/crashes in multiplayer should be treated as afk until reconnect & not auto loss.

    Disconnects or out of sync or other 100 type of crashes shouldnt be treated as automatic forfits, Instead let game your civ play out as if you are afk until you reconnect OR Let AI take over until reconnects... Its 2020 & even definitive edition doesn't fix this....

    Playing aoe3 DE on mac against PC?

    Hi everyone,

    I want to figure out how to play aoe3 DE on mac and play it against a windows PC.

    My first guess would be to install a VM in the mac to run windows 10, then steam, then aoe3 DE.
    Then install aoe3 DE in the PC from steam and play it on multiplayer.

    Would this work? And if so, would I need 2 different steam accounts and buy the game twice?
    Also, I would appreciate any mac VM's recommendations.

    Add Custom Map / Download AOE3 Via Steam File Path?

    Hi all,

    I added a custom map to the user/documents/my games/Age of Empires 3/Scenario folder from heavengames.com/aoe3. The folder itself has all the custom scenarios I downloaded playing online but after moving the file into that folder the game no longer loaded saying it couldn't find the filemap, or something.

    The game worked perfectly well before I tried to add a custom map into this scenario folder manually rather than by joining an online lobby on ESO.

    Is it maybe simply due to where Steam downloads the game? It seems to install it somewhere else on my computer. Do I simply change the download path to have it download in user/documents/my games? I seem to have two different file paths to the same files

    Any idea?

    Scenario's not working to host (colosseum), AGE3DE

    Greetings

    I wanted to play some colosseum with my friends and joined a lobby. I could join but my 2 other friends could not. They get an error message: https://i.imgur.com/vHG5ZO6.jpg

    After that I got the file and wanted to host it myself but coulnd't either. My friend then started to host one but then I got the same error message.

    Also when my friends or I host one people join and immidiatly leave probably of the same error message.

    I've also been looking in the mods and found no scenario of colosseum.

    Is there any fix for this or do we have to wait until a colosseum comes in the mod folder?

    New multiplayer lobby bug?

    I'm in the multiplayer lobby, I join a game, I get a 'Please Wait' message.

    The list of lobbies is still visible, I don't join the lobby. If I click another game it asks if I want to leave the current game I'm in (which I can't see) and if I wait around one minute, I get a 'Host Rejected' notification. Is this happening to anybody else?
