    Capoch's Build Order Guide

    Posted: 24 Nov 2020 04:57 PM PST

    Capoch's Build Order Guide

Hey guys! I've just finished a build order guide for AoE2! It's a 31 page guide, so I've dedicated quite some time to it and it also has a cool design that fits the game.

It's meant to promote my twitch channel and all you need to do to get it is subscribe to www.twitch.tv/capoch. Remember, if you have Amazon Prime you can subscribe for free or if not, it costs 4.99USD.

After subbing, you must join my discord channel (https://discord.gg/65NwUgz), go to discord connections in settings and sync your Twitch with your discord. Some minutes later, you will find a private channel in my discord where you can download the guide. It comes in two languages (english and spanish) and the idea is to keep it alive by adding new content every month (2 builds at least) so stay tunned!

I hope you sub and enjoy this guide that was made with a lot of love to the game! Find below some samples of pages inside the guide.

Every Unique Unit Compared to History (Part 1 - AoK civs part 1)

    Posted: 24 Nov 2020 03:46 PM PST

    Heya,
So I just wanted to share some information about every Unique in aoe2. The history aspect of the game is what roped me in, and so I just wanted to tell you not just what each unique was in history, but what its bonus/ability has to do with it. Some of this is a little bit of guess work, especially with the civs created by Forgotten Empires, so feel free to jump in with your own ideas of what you think.

I will be sorting by expansion pack, and by alphabetically. I am splitting this up into multiple parts to keep this post short. If you want I can create a mega list when I finished.

So without further ado, let's get started with the Age of Kings civs. A lot of their unique's have history pages in the manual, so these are fairly straightforward. However I feel like the list would not be complete without them.

    Britons - Longbow

Ability: Powerful archer with long range.

What it was: The longbow was a version of the standard bow and arrow that was, well, long. The length of the bow meant it had excellent power and range, making it essentially a faster crossbow.

Significance to the Britons: The longbow was extremely hard to master, so much so that most armies simply just used crossbows. The English were famous for using longbows, especially in the High Middle Ages, and became so good at using them that they were able to take out heavily armored knights.

How the game relates it to history: Unlike some unique units, the Longbow is fairly straightforward, and its ability relates to the actual unit by being a powerful archer with a long range.

    Byzantines - Cataphract

Ability: Heavily armored cavalry. Excels in combat vs infantry.

What it was: The Cataphract was a predecessor to the knight, and was an extremely powerful heavy cavalry force used to break formations of cavalry and infantry. The Cataphract rider and horse were completely decked out in armor.

Significance to the Byzantines: The Byzantines made extensive use of Cataphracts, but they were also used by many other civs throughout history, such as the Sassanid Persians

How the game relates it to History: My guess is that their bonus against infantry units has to do with the formation breaking power of the Cataphract against infantry. Their trample damage caused by the "Logistica" tech is probably from the idea of the Byzantine army carrying the traditions of the Roman army by being extremely well trained.

    Celts - Woad Raider

    Ability: Exceptionally quick infantry.

What it was: While there was no such thing as a "Woad Raider", Celtic warriors from various tribes would often dye their chests blue from the Woad plant, and fight bare chested.

Significance to the Celts: The warriors of the Celts are one of the defining parts of them, and the Woad paint that they used in the time of the Roman Empire makes them famous

How the game relates it to History: The Celts used a lot of guerilla tactice in the Middle Ages, and were famous for raiding cities during the time of Rome, and nothing says "Raiding your friends' economy" other than fast, bare chested men coming towards your citizens minding their businesses.

    Chinese - Chu-Ko-Nu

Ability: Archer with mediocre range. Fires large number of arrows very quickly.

What it was: The Chu-Ko-Nu was a type of repeating crossbow, meaning the firer would keep loading bolts inside of it, and the chu ko nu would fire automatically. It was essentially the first semi automatic gun.

Significance to the Chinese: The Chu-Ko-Nu was invented by the Chinese during the Warring Kingdoms period

How the game relates it to History: Obviously, since the Chu-Ko-Nu was a repeating crossbow, it could fire many bolts in a small period of time.

    Franks - Throwing Axe Man

    Ability: Infantry with ranged attack.

What it was: It's a throwing axe, duh.

Significance to the Franks: The Franks got their name from the "Francisca" axe, which they used a lot in the early Middle-Ages.

How the game relates it to History: The Francisca could be used as a melee axe and a throwing axe, which is probably while it does melee damage from a range.

    STAY TUNED FOR PART 2!

    Tysm for listening!

Looking for mates to play aoe2 with?

    Posted: 25 Nov 2020 12:02 AM PST

    Hi guys

So, unfortunately, the few mates that used to play aoe2 with me eventually stopped after random dcs and not being able to reconnect (before this patch). Guess it was extremely frustrating playing an hour long game for it to be decided on your net dropping for a couple of seconds. They have all migrated to LOL and now the new WOW expansion.

Anyway I am about 1000-1100 in 1v1s and 1500-1600 in team games.

    Cheers

What's the hardest civ matchup in a 1v1?

    Posted: 25 Nov 2020 02:20 AM PST

For me it's Burmese vs. Mongols. The Burmese have absolutely no way of dealing with mangudai. They have the second worst skirms in the game (no thumb ring, only one armor upgrade) and their UU gets shredded by archers. When people bitch about arambai being OP I'm like n*gga plz, they ain't nothing compared to mangu.

    Dealing with non-meta strats.

    Posted: 25 Nov 2020 05:26 AM PST

What's the best way to deal with non-meta strats. Yesterday I dealt with an all in feudal scout rush. I am 915 elo and dropping now, but I've been up to 1050. My game plan was scouts into archers, and I had my scouts ready to go when he attacked the first time and cleaned his up, but he had more on the way, I made a just couple spears, cuz as tatars infantry isn't really the way to go. I didn't expect him to keep on producing scouts either. If I had full walled at this point I would have been fine. then I eeked my way up to castle into resign. I guess I should have went full feudal.

The point is, full scouts is not a great strat if someone expects it but to a less experienced player it is pretty surprising, so what do you do about it. Also SL suck.

Do mid game saves count as cheats?

    Posted: 25 Nov 2020 04:51 AM PST

Doing a campaign and I saved mid way through, when I finished the scenario it told me achievements wouldn't progress because cheats were used. I didn't use any actual chest codes obviously, so is saving what causes it?

TGs were unplayable in Post-imp, and they fixed the bug by making Tgs unplayable in castle age. No post-imp lag if u can't even get to Imp. 11

Do you have to drop the ressource before creating a farm?

    Posted: 25 Nov 2020 07:36 AM PST

If I'm not mistaking, a villager that has, for example, gold and is assigned to chop wood will lost the gold if its not ordered to drop it first.

What happens when you create a farm? I've seen multiple experts creating farm with villager that have already a ressource with them. Are these player just careless or are the villager automatically drop the ressource once they start farming?
Also, all the time that I've seen this, it's always a lumberjack that created a farm. If the villager does actually drops automatically the ressource, does it work only with wood?
