Civilization Match-up Discussion Round 10 Week 10: Ethiopians vs Indians Posted: 10 Nov 2020 07:32 PM PST Ummm.... yeah sorry I've got nothing.... Hello and welcome back for another Age of Empires 2 civilization match up discussion! This is a series where we discuss the various advantages, disadvantages, and quirks found within the numerous match ups of the game. The goal is to collectively gain a deeper understanding of how two civilizations interact with each other in a variety of different settings. Feel free to ask questions, pose strategies, or provide insight on how the two civilizations in question interact with each other on any map type and game mode. This is not limited to 1v1 either. Feel free to discuss how the civilizations compare in team games as well! So long as you are talking about how the two civilizations interact, anything is fair game! Last week we discussed the Magyars vs Malay, and next up is the Ethiopians vs Indians! Ethiopians: Archer civilization
Indians: Camel and Gunpowder civilization
Below are some match up-specific talking points to get you all started. These are just to give people ideas, you do not need to address them specifically if you do not want to!
Thanks as always for participating! Next week we will continue our discussions with the Celts vs Turks. Hope to see you there! :) [link] [comments]

Posted: 10 Nov 2020 10:19 PM PST I play a lot of multiplayer games. But for some reason aoe has been the only game Im reluctant to play ranked on. The only other game that I was a bit anxious about was csgo but after playing casual in that game for a while and just having fun and getting used to it i felt I was confident enough to play ranked cuz I won't be as much of a burden to my team. But I've been playing aoe most of it's lifetime on and off with DE kinda rekindling my interest in it. I won't say I'm good but i got the basics down but for whatever reason I just can't force myself to play ranked. I only have two games on ranked. I don't think I'm alone when it comes to this so can someone tell us how they overcame it ? [link] [comments]

Posted: 10 Nov 2020 10:24 PM PST exampe of what I'm talking about
The enemy unit/building has to be adjacent to the building. Which Age you're in appears to have no effect. All buildings deal 1 damage (regardless of armour). Which means that in certain scenarios against high armour targets Markets & monasteries will have higher DPS than skirms (due to their low attack rate). Damage appears to be ranged (as rams take 1 damage per attack) I tested most other common buildings, but they couldn't attack (didn't test towers, harbours, or castles). Test in HD (although I think it still works in DE):
A FU market can deal 40 damage (135/175) to a battering ram before the market dies. A feudal age market can kill a watch tower before the watch tower kills it. Obviously you aren't going to raze the enemy town to the ground with markets (calm down Saracens), but this could be useful to counter enemy towers or forward buildings (especially using the market), or to kill scouts/militias/spears/villagers) attacking your market. Mostly useful early game. Making the enemy hear the attack sound is good by itself (as it puts them on edge, and they won't be able to figure out what's attacking them) [link] [comments]
Losing games intentionally - Reason for ban? Posted: 11 Nov 2020 06:09 AM PST I stopped playing aoe2 for a couple of months, and considering a return. However, I believe there is no rating decay, and thus queuing right now would set me up against opponents of the skill level I was before i stopped playing, which is surely quite above my current level. To counterbalance this, I was thinking about losing a couple of games -- forfeiting at the start -- to intentionally drop my rating to a value that would be more appropriate, and then climb as my skill improves. If I do this, do I risk being banned? The rules don't seem to explicitly mention this, but I wouldn't like to gamble on this... Cheers. Edit: I am now convinced that this is not a good idea, despite not being a bannable offense. There doesn't seem to be a feasible way to adjust for inactivity without (even if mildly) disrupting the ranking system. [link] [comments]
How to play real world map with true starting locations with active AI? Posted: 11 Nov 2020 01:42 AM PST Hey guys, I was trying go play a europe map with a friend, where you start with some villagers in a ship and get to choose your starting location. This was the closest to TSL europe map I could find..but the AI was dead in the MP game. So does anyone know or have experience how one could set up such a map for multiplayer with working AI? Would be amazing! [link] [comments]
Allow Reconnecting After Disconnects Posted: 10 Nov 2020 06:39 PM PST There's already an auto "Attempting to reconnecting.... catching up to the server" feature that works well when one's internet connection times out for a few seconds. But, if the internet completely goes down, it disconnects and you can't get back in. There should be a feature that allows you to reconnect to the game. There are next-to-no downsides to it, except that someone could cheat by spectating. But, it takes too long to go and spectate a game, and in ranked games there's already a 3 minute delay. It would almost never be used and even if used it's usually a disadvantage for the cheater. Edit: The feature would be used for team games only. [link] [comments]

Uses for extra buttons (Logitech G502) Posted: 10 Nov 2020 08:39 PM PST Does anybody else have a g502? What keys do you map the extra buttons too? I use the G4 and G5 buttons for stand ground/aggressive. Side scroll for palisade gate/gate. Haven't decided what to do with the other buttons. G7/G8 could be for line/box maybe, snipe button for patrol. [link] [comments]
Synergistic Civ Combination Discussion Posted: 10 Nov 2020 01:02 PM PST Hi everyone, If this topic has already been covered feel free to link it here and ignore my post. Was hoping to get a loose discussion going on civ picks for 2v2 or 3v3 games that have good synergy on a team (e.g. team bonuses from one civ significantly benefit their teammate). Counterable but very annoying strat: Khmer + (Celts or Slavs or Teutons or Mongols): Mass scorpions. Combinations that I have questions about: Britons + (Mayans or other civs which use archery range): Britons team bonus of faster working archery range can be used for foot archers, skirms, cav archers, hand cannoneers. Huns + (Franks or other civs which use stable): Huns team bonus of faster working stable can be used for scouts, knights, camels, elephants. It feels like a very popular and successful strategy for team games is that one person goes knights, while the other goes foot archer. This means that team bonuses like the ones I mentioned here are probably underutilized. There is definitely a valid reason for this, i.e. AOE2 is rock paper scissors, it doesn't really matter that you have a bigger rock because you can still get countered by paper. Can you help me think of situations of where both players in a 2v2 game should both focus on knight line or archer line? [link] [comments]

Do we know how the AOE 2 HD edition reacts to mods created for the original Gold version? Posted: 10 Nov 2020 07:36 PM PST I used to own the Gold Edition years ago and have since lost it. When I had it though, I used a lot of total conversion mods towards the end of my time playing it. I've been wanting to relive those games I played but I'm having trouble finding the Gold Edition available digitally, and I'm always rerouted back to the HD Edition. I'd definitely buy it if it could implement the mods, but I don't want to waste money considering I already bought the Definitive Edition. [link] [comments] |
