3.5 hour trash war : Koreans (me) vs. Indians 750 ELO

    Posted: 12 Nov 2020 05:33 AM PST

I hope to God I never play a game this long again. I was physically fatigued by the end of it.

I found myself in a better position with a 3-2 relic lead and defending my base but neither one of us could manage to break through. He went Imp camel which shredded my wagons so I immediately switched to halbs and arbelasts. He then tried to treb down a few of my outside castles but i fought back with BBCs that immediately deleted them. He then adopted a strategy of yolo'ing about 120 hussars and taking out my siege. At this point we were both living off relic gold and the market.

I finally managed to break into his base which he had completely walled into segments and set up a TC and Castle after using the market for stone. He sent a huge force to my base and managed to level it. The issue is that as I was focusing on fending off his relentless trash attacks and trying to micro my onager, he was picking apart my base at hone which included my monastary and 3 relics. While his units were cleaning up the rest of the base, I snuck in 3 monks and managed to get 2 of them back. Unfortuantely with a 3-2 lead in his favor he just had more gold.

With our bases flipped basically, he walled in everything and housed in the entire map in the middle. I"m talking hundreds of houses...Not sure if this is a legit strat or a meme. Probably took me 30 minutes just to creep my way across the map and at that time he had plenty of gold units to overwhelm my army.

    tl/dr

After gaining a foothold and taking down his buildings in the middle, I started a siege on his base only to have him counter me with about 60 elephant archers. I also had a stone lead

    What happens after 1.2k elo?

    Posted: 12 Nov 2020 01:34 AM PST

Hey, I feel like I mostly hear about the 800-1200 elo players (here in the community), and the the pro games in youtube. But what about the middle? How many players are actually there? I guess about 5% of players are maybe over 1600, does anyone know?

And what so they actually do different? At my elo (1.2k) ppl already execute build orders nicely, start microing decently without abandoning their entire Eco behind this and make good counter decisions. The overall performance is just so much smoother and maybe double or triple apm for top players, but is this "fine tuning" the whole dofference in a 1000 elo range?

Anyone gone up to maybe 1.4, 1.6 or 1.8k and can explain the progress?

    New Zealand ranked game loner

    Posted: 12 Nov 2020 01:47 AM PST

Just got back into aoe2 and have began to play ranked games. I love playing them, but am having real trouble finding matches. It's taking forever to find here in New Zealand. Any one else from Aotearoa finding this, if not what time is the best to get on??

What’s the recommended internet speed for stable connection? Cos mine is around 25-40mbps and keeps disconnecting.

    Posted: 12 Nov 2020 06:45 AM PST

Many of us experiences frequent disconnections, drops, and intermittent lag. What is the typical internet connection speed of those who have stable play? Cos I'm disconnecting on 10%+ of games currently, and it's frustrating cos I like the game a lot but it's just not stable.

    In comparison with HD Elo...

    Posted: 12 Nov 2020 04:53 AM PST

1600 was the Elo one started with in HD. What is the equivalent in DE?

Like under 1600 is considered noob in HD, I think? So what Elo range is considered noob for DE?

I don't play ranked, but I win against 13/14k and sometimes higher in DE. Am I a noob?

    Thanks.

Why are all the good colors odd numbers

    Posted: 11 Nov 2020 10:24 PM PST

    Team Odds:

Blue - the ultimate classic, soothing good guy color

Green - the best color and its not even close

Cyan - Objectively better than purple lets be real

    Grey - Borderline OP

    Team Evens:

    Red - Hot trash

Yellow - Slightly less hot trash

Purple - Only ever picked in 4v4s because someone has to

    Orange - No
