Make the 256x cheat code (going above and beyond) available to all

    Posted: 27 Dec 2020 10:13 PM PST

There is a very fun cheat code ("going above and beyond") which allows players to research any technology an additional 255 times. This can make for a very fun single player experience where you fight 1v7 against the AI, or mess around with your friends. The 256x Tech Mods which exist on the workshop are utterly broken, and not a reasonable substitute.

However... this can only be obtained through an event that happened earlier this year. If you did not participate in the event, there is no way to use the cheat code. The only thing that should be locked to events are avatars and harmless seasonal cosmetics (on that note: making onager projectiles more visible is far from harmless but that's another topic entirely).

    What were they thinking?

edit: also, btw, it should probably be an official mod and not a cheat code... for obvious reasons (namely, that it makes it easier to use in multiplayer)

How far should you go with reporting players for rudeness?

    Posted: 28 Dec 2020 02:42 AM PST

Had a player do the classic franks scouts/1tc knights castle drop on me. As soon as I gave the gg all I got was HAHA YOU SUCK NOOB.

Report or not? I know I'm not a noob and this will not keep me up at night but surely this kind of thing creates a culture of anger and bitterness and turns people off the game. If a stranger acted like this towards you after playing say a tennis match you wouldn't play with them again.

    Thoughts?

Balance and meta changes from AoC: Forgotten Empires to AoE2 HD to AoE2 DE?

    Posted: 28 Dec 2020 05:05 AM PST

At the moment I'm stuck playing the Forgotten Empires patch for the CD version of Conquerors, and was wondering if the popular guides and strats which were made for HD and DE still apply to the old game, or if there have been large balance changes that have shifted the meta? Are there any specific strategies that are very popular now that aren't nearly as effective on the CD version?

    Posted: 28 Dec 2020 03:59 AM PST

    Suggestion - History tab

    Posted: 28 Dec 2020 01:29 AM PST

    Hello,

dont you think that history tab should be under Learn to play tab? I know it adds nothing to the gameplay but I dont think it should be under that Screw tab either.

Where can I watch Vietnamese Gameplay?

    Posted: 28 Dec 2020 12:58 AM PST

    Hey all,

Where would I best start to see good Vietnamese gameplay? Especially with transition into late game?

Been wanting to focus on Vietnamese now, as they seem interesting. But I keep hearing they're not that good in late game, especially VS halb/siege and Eagle warriors.

As i'm still rather new, post imp games Will be seen very Often. I'd like to see the better players deal with it!

    Thanks in advance!

    How do I improve?

    Posted: 28 Dec 2020 07:18 AM PST

I've played over 300 games in AOE2:DE and I always float anywhere between 950 and 1050. What do I need to do in order to get through to the middle of the road ranks?

I tend to struggle against people that can incorporate a mix of 2 units in their armies such as pikemen crossbows. Or cavalry archers.

I'm happy to send you my wins and losses.

Queue times & Dodging in team games

    Posted: 27 Dec 2020 04:17 PM PST

I enjoy playing 4v4 a lot, but recently it takes about 30 Minutes so get into a ranked game.

Queue times are not that great but the main issue seems to be people dodging a map they do not want to play. So waiting 5-10min each time adds up quickly.

Maybe discourage people from dodging would be a quick solution? Something like you can not queue up another ranked game for an hour or something. Or redesign the whole queue so you could ban more maps?

Sorry for a basic question. I'm looking to get into the Options page (for changing hotkeys ect.) that is easily accessible when playing a game. Where is this page from the Main Menu?

What are some of your favourite campaigns and least favourites? (AOE 2)

    Posted: 27 Dec 2020 10:02 PM PST

I grew up playing AOE: Age of Kings and loved all the campaigns, then discovered the Conquerors and loved all of it. Currently catching up with all the DLCs in Definitive edition. Can't place some of my least favs but definitely love all the originals.

Just got DE recently and I got destroyed by those online players

    Posted: 27 Dec 2020 02:22 PM PST

Before playing DE I was playing the Conquerors with people on Voobly. My dad taught me the game when I was 3 and like my flair says, I have been playing it for at least 10 years. On Voobly, I can beat most of the players, but on DE I'm a noob. I thought that I was a pretty decent player but it turned out there's still much to learn. How long have you been playing and are you good?

    How long before venturing online?

    Posted: 27 Dec 2020 11:09 PM PST

    Hi everyone,

This was my fav game over 15yrs ago and I have just bought definitive edition at the age of 33yr to relive it again! I used to play only deathmatch and really loved big 3v3s on maps like oasis.

Anyway... I have just restarted and on twitch it seems no one really plays deathmatch anymore. Is this true?

It seems random map with the map unexplored is the way I should play the game now, as scouting, drush / frush etc are all essential tactical components of the game.

So my question: after about a week I have just been spamming Britons - I really like mass archers... still I struggle to beat the computer on moderate / hard 1v1 and esp 2v2 - my comp ally always gets over-run. The comp seems to rush ASAP @ Castle Age and often they have such a lot of military even when I'm following strict Briton archer rush builds for example...

So, do I keep plugging away at this until I consistently can beat it 1v1 / 2v2 or even 2v1 on hard before venturing online or is the gameplay so different that I should just get online and accept my rank will be low until I'm more skilled?

    Thanks in advance. :)
