Hey everyone! As some of you may know, I've been planning my 24 hour (2x12hs) stream for quite a while now after reaching a certain sub goal on my twitch channel.

The stream will take place on May 1 (Saturday) and May 2 (Sunday). There's going to be plenty of AoE2 during those 24 hours, including top players showmatches, 1vs1 coop with known casters & experts, community games and a little bit of coaching. Check full Schedule below.

Promotional video of the event: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZzS85BymnRQ

The event will take place here --> www.twitch.tv/capoch
You can stay up to date on discord --> https://discord.gg/tSaAMpdsgX

The prizepool for each showmatch will be sponsored by myself. For every donation/new sub that happens during that weekend on my channel, part of it will contribute on increasing the prizepool. If anyone is interested in increasing the prizepool before the event, you can just send me a message on discord (Capoch#4093) or reach me on any social network.

Keep in mind, that every sub on the channel will get access to my build order guide (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oiU-r0xiG2s) and will also be able to participate in the upcoming 1vs1 league that I'll be hosting later on May for players of different ELO's.

I want this stream to be really special, since it's going to be the longest I've streamed for quite some time.

I hope everything turns out good, and we all have a blast during the weekend! The point is trying to have fun and I expect to get my ass kicked on most showmatches!

    Good luck & have fun!

    A message for the devs

Keep thinking there's a new patch because of the pinned thread

    Posted: 23 Apr 2021 01:34 AM PDT

My question is, do we need it pinned for so long after release? It still manages to fool/disappoint me every now and then :-(

TIL: Exactly why Turtle Ships are so chunky

    Posted: 22 Apr 2021 05:04 PM PDT

Despite being expensive and slow, turtle ships surprised me today in an islands team game for their durability. They weren't taking any damage at all from enemy navies and I destroyed their docks while shrugging off their attacks. I later looked it up and apparently turtle ships have +8 and +11 anti-ship armour. War galleys and fire ships have +9 and +3 bonus attack vs ships, respectively. When combined with the base pierce armour of 5, that means turtle ships are only taking 3 damage from each war galley and 1 damage from every fire galley attack. With their 200 HP, that means you need 134 war galley shots to take down a turtle ship. Conversely, you only need 14 war galley shots to take down enemy war galleys.

I always knew they were tanky, but I thought it was just from their high HP. I was completely unaware of their anti-ship armour.

    Good to know

Does anybody else feel like their skill level after each game exponentially decreases?

    Posted: 22 Apr 2021 10:19 PM PDT

I'll win the first couple of games and then I just don't feel that sharp anymore. If I continue playing I'll start to mess up builds and not making the right decisions.

AOE2 has become virtually unplayable for me

    Posted: 22 Apr 2021 11:32 PM PDT

DE came out a year and a half ago and for 16 months it was amazing and worked flawlessly, every single time. But in the last two months it's become almost unplayable.

First, half of my games crash in the lobby. They only crash once other players join, so I wait five minutes for a game and there's a 50% chance it will crash. Incredibly frustrating.

Second, the game has become plagued by lag. I played hundreds of games in the last year, no lag. But in the last couple weeks, it's been choppy and laggy in many of the games I do get to play.

Third, desyncs and crashes. I just came here to rant because I had a BF game, we all spent 30 minutes building our big boom imp setups, and then just when the enemy was breaking through my wall and I was ready to meet him, it crashed. Man I wanted to smash something. Evening ruined.

All of these issues are recent. I don't know what happened to the game but it has me considering just re-installing HD where I could usually get a game pretty quick and desyncs happened sometimes but not as frequently as they're happening in DE lately.

Is there a known cheat were I can increase the total population amount?

    Posted: 23 Apr 2021 02:07 AM PDT

Will the new Steppe Lancer buff make them more viable? Short answer - No.

    Posted: 22 Apr 2021 11:57 AM PDT

I ran a bunch of tests with next patches: -5 gold buff.

Unfortunately, the answer is that they are still largely useless, outside of some highly situational use cases. The tests involved large numbers and modest choke points to maximise the Steppe Lancer's range advantage.

Against heavy cavalry, they lost convincingly from both a population and resource perspective, whether castle or post imp.

Against the light cav line, the best castle Steppe Lancer (mongol), was 37% more population efficient than the Light cav, and 0.2% less resource efficient. While the population efficiency sounds good, its much worse than the knight as a gold unit, so if you have gold and want population efficiency, its very hard to justify the steppe lancer.

In post imp, its a similar story, the Tatar Steppe Lancer is 13.4% more resource efficient that generic hussar, but that is due to the Tatar unique tech, which also applies to their Hussar which ends up being similarly resource efficient too.

I checked to see if this tech at least allows Elite Steppe Lancer to function more cost effectively than their Cavalier (which doesn't get the tech bonus), but it still loses handily to the cavalier.

So again, if you have gold, go heavy cavalry, if you don't go hussar. Even in the most favorable engagement for them, they still aren't worth it.

As a final last ditch effort, I tried to see if you can save resources in castle, with a knight front row, and a Steppe Lancer 2nd row, a stacking the game naturally does due to the higher Steppe Lancer speed. Unfortunately this isn't res effective either, just go two lines of knights.

Sadly, despite the upcoming buff, the Steppe Lancer is just a gold intensive light cav, that doesn't really make any sense to build in pretty much any circumstance.

Few of my thoughts about 600-700 ELO players.

    Posted: 23 Apr 2021 08:35 AM PDT

    1. Thats where I float at. Seems like at this elo whoever attacks first wins as the guy who is being attacked doesn't know how to defend (me also). So the key of winning at this elo is to attack enemy as soon as possible. If you don't attack in feudal age at this elo you are guaranteed to lose, unless you know how to defend which as I said people at this elo simply don't know how to.
    2. Idle TC is the main reason why we are such a low elo. And this magnifies even more after the Imperial age is reached, where people just stop producing vills and focus on military to destroy their enemy asap. Most people at this elo can't multitask both eco and military so they just do the military while the TCs are idle.
    3. No walls. People almost never do any kind of walls at this elo so one decent rush kills a lot of their vills and eco, which is pretty much a guaranteed win if you continue to attack.

Can one range skirm beat two range archers?

    Posted: 22 Apr 2021 09:49 PM PDT

Is it a bug that skirms in TCs don't fire extra arrows?

    Posted: 22 Apr 2021 11:01 PM PDT

Idk if I'm crazy, has that always been that way? Skirms are archers, why does it not make the TC fire extra arrows?
