Why isn't Small Trees an official setting/feature?

    Posted: 18 Nov 2021 01:51 PM PST

Surely every person over 700 ELO uses some form of small trees. Playing competitively is near-impossible without it and every update comes the inevitable game or 2 forgetting to re-enable it. Why don't Devs make it and official setting you can trigger in settings?

disabling user mods every update is one thing, but forcibly enabling dozens of old mods which I had specifically disabled is just obnoxious

    Posted: 18 Nov 2021 10:10 AM PST

every update we hear the complaints about small trees and other mods being disabled. this update takes it one step further, featuring three achievements that can't be opted out of which automatically enable dozens of mods from the previous year. this video shows only one out of this update's three achievements worth of mods. not shown is also the time it took to re-enable my own selected mods. I think this shows a serious disconnect between the mod content that players want, and the mod content that is being forced unto them and taken away. I don't understand why they don't allow us to opt out of every cosmetic mod and why such content can't be just "unlocked" but not "enabled" by default.

    Why no skeletons?

    Posted: 18 Nov 2021 02:48 AM PST

One thing the original game did significantly better than DE, was the lasting visual effect of huge battles. I'm talking about skellies. Piles of them. I want that back. With new and improved physics; I want to see the skulls crunching under the hooves of my heavy cavalry. Come on, Microsoft, have some respect for the dead.

Meanwhile, is there a mod that restores the bony boys and also works with multiplayer?

    Is AoE2 DE worth it?

    Posted: 18 Nov 2021 08:39 PM PST

Hello all, I'm a huge fan of the American Conquest and Cossacks series so I was looking at giving AoE 2 a go. Is it worth it? How is it different from American Conquest/Cossacks (if you've played them)? Is there a sandbox/editor to allow for creative freedom?

Thanks for the replies in advance! :)

    Worst match in history??

    Posted: 18 Nov 2021 04:09 PM PST

So last night played I played 2 horrible games. The first was a 1v1 with someone and the settings were:

    • Arena
    • Tiny
    • 1v1
    • Regicide
    • Infinite resources
    • Turbo mode
    • Ending age: Castle
    • Max pop 25

    Was a hilarious statemate

    Second game:

    • Arena
    • Tiny
    • Infinite resource
    • 4v4 Extreme AI vs me and other player
    • Regicide
    • 5 min treaty
    • Max pop 500
    • Dark age ending age

After 5 minutes the entire map was engulfed in barracks, with about 3000 militia on screen. The game lagged so hard lol

    I love aoe2

Thoughts on the new, new new Arabia?

    Posted: 18 Nov 2021 10:48 AM PST

Surprised I haven't seen any conversation either complaining or praising the new map. I'm personally conflicted. I used to play AoK forever ago, and no one walled back then. I hate the idea of turning an open map into a closed map - kind of defeats the purpose. But at the same time, I've become so used to and rewired to analyze my map for the most sensible geometric configuring of my walled base. I kind of like not bothering and being ready to defend with military and just trying to funnel the enemy to a certain spot with house walls and such. Does the change kill walling that much or am I just "giving up" on walling too fast? And generally, how do you all feel on full Palisades on Arabia to begin with?

What's the most tryhard strategy you can think of in a team game?

    Posted: 18 Nov 2021 11:50 AM PST

I don't have anything specific in mind, just something that you think would be extremely effective if pulled off, but also risky/complicated. Think slinging resources to the goth player for under 20-min huskarl spam, or slinging resources AND relics to a lithuanian player for extreme fast castle into knights/leitis with extra attack. Doesn't have to involve slinging, just very very good team coordination and planning

    Conquistadors blacksmith upgrades?

    Posted: 18 Nov 2021 12:49 PM PST

Tech tree says conqs get armor upgrades in blacksmith, but doesnt specify whether its archer armor you need or barding (cavalry) armor. Anyone know?

EDIT: any upgrades to buff their attack power??

    People lagging games.

    Posted: 18 Nov 2021 10:30 PM PST

So I'm confused here. How does someone pass the benchmark when they are lagging so bad in the beginning of the game. Then proceeds to troll saying "are you ready for this lag". Actually pretty funny, but my god how is this possible? If they ran the benchmark, their pc must have been trying to tell the operator to put it out of its misery. How they passed the benchmark is truly an anomaly. Can anyone explain to me how this is possible? Me and my friend play 2v2s and its probably every 3 or 4 games we get someone lagging. Also why isnt their a report feature for trolling? They did an incredible job with this remaster... How?
