What is an elite cannon galleon ? A galleon with an elite cannon, or an elite galleon with a cannon ?

    Posted: 14 Dec 2021 10:16 AM PST

Or maybe an elite galleon with an elite cannon ?

Same question for elite elephant archer, elite camel archer, and elite ballista elephant (is the camel/elephant "elite", or is it the archer/ballista ?)

Best games and series of KotD4?

    Posted: 14 Dec 2021 06:14 AM PST

I enjoyed the tournament very much, it's been going for a while and I could not watch all the games and series? So which did you like best, which would be recommendable for a rewatch? For me, Liereyy-Tatoh and Jordan-Tatoh as a series, especially game 6 Jordan-Tatoh come to mind, finals game 4, jordan-hera game 1... ACCM-Sitaux was also a good series. what else?

Unique Units and Unique Techs : Which get use? How do you like their general state?

    Posted: 14 Dec 2021 07:49 AM PST

In a game dominated by 4 or 5 standard dark/feudal openings followed by Xbows and Knights Unique techs and Unique Units give civs a unique flavor. Some of us don't have the time to learn every civ but have plenty of time to read reddit during the work day and fantasize about crushing our enemies with Samurai spams.

    - Which unique techs are must gets? Why?

    - Which unique units do you try to play into?

    - How do you set yourself up to play into a Unique Unit? What are the timings?

    - How does it vary from TG to 1v1 to Open to Closed maps?

    - What if unique techs were researched at the university?

I find I rarely live out my dream of Samurai spams. I simply never make enough Castles and tend to go for 2 gold unit all in Castle plays. My eco cannot spare the villagers to mine stone. If I have been pushed back I already lost. Japanese typically playout as an Archer civ that loses to other archer civs. I would like to combat this via Yasama towers but I run into the "need a Castle" problem. I would love to be able to research Yasama towers at the University. Right now I am basically making a university for just ballistics and chemistry. Allowing for Unique techs to be researched at universities would make the 3 TC boom or University choice more interesting. For Japanese researching Yasama at the University isn't OP but unique techs for Civs I'm less familiar with might be a problem.

    new patch = japanese buff?

    Posted: 14 Dec 2021 12:28 AM PST

i recently got into playing japanese, allways liked them but i think they have some extremely good benefits since the new patch:
Their collection buildings cost -50%, so playing them in a generic way can give you lots of unused wood to be used for early walling, so the more expensive walls dont hurt them as much as other civs.
besides that, it allows you to build a very early barracks for militias and MAA, wich is a popular strat these days.
allso their MAA and archers (the recommended followup to MAA) are strong because they attack faster and they can make solid knights in Castleage. (Samurai got buffed too but i never encountered a situation to use them so far, going UU against Japanese is dumb anyway imo)
what do you think, are Japanese buffed?
did you experience similar (maby not intended) buffs, or did you find new strats to bypass the expensive walls with other civs?
Please lets have a good discussion in the comments!

    4v4 Team Game Meta

    Posted: 13 Dec 2021 10:29 PM PST

I mostly play 4v4 ranked TG on open maps and I am kind of curious about what you think are the most effective strategies in this setting nowadays.

This seems to be a rarely discussed topic and I suppose most of us intuitively know the meta is Archer+Scout for each side into Crossbow and Knight. But having played against some top 100 players in this setting (vivi, Jordan etc), I noted they sometimes make wacky strategies like Polish szlactha knights or cumans boom into cav work (from pocket position and sacrificing their flank in the process but still win convincing in the end). I have also seen a few times one flank and both pockets all going for 8-10 scouts and rush down one flank trying to force an early resign. These are just some non meta strategies I've failed to counter in the past and I'm just wondering what strategies you have seen that could most likely beat the crossbow knight meta?

Is there a mod/is it possible to start every game with the TC, vils, and scout already binded to a hotkey?

    Posted: 14 Dec 2021 10:49 AM PST

I dont know If I phrased it correctly, but what I was thinking - I want to start the game with my hotkeys:

    1) Villager alone

    2) Both villagers

    3) Scout

    6) Town Center

I never saw anything mentioning its possibility

Stopping massed WW + tower defense

    Posted: 14 Dec 2021 06:03 AM PST

    Hi all

I know Koreans have a paltry win rate in 1v1 Arabia, but in my latest game, I got thoroughly curbstomped as Bulgarians.

He played a passive feudal tower defense, I managed 3 or 4 vill kills with scouts. I had a couple wayward waypoints which hurt my Castle uptime, but I felt in control. I scouted that he was on stone so I countered the upcoming WW with 3 range skirms and a decent boom, I still felt in control given that I did not have to sink 650 into a Castle. But he got a good boom of his own, a couple good mango shots, and before I knew it we were in Imp and he had onagers and WW and I couldn't do anything. No raiding since he had towers everywhere, I went hussars but I could barely snipe a couple onagers before wws got to me, he proceeded to treb me down and I couldn;t touch his army. basically he turned it into an arena game where Koreans shine. In the end I thought he might run out of gold but I was running out of vils and farm space so I called GG.

Should I have pushed with rams in Castle? I usually dislike that, since WW and onagers can kill them. Or maybe go for early Imp so at least i have an advantage in trebs?

Any custom AI that works on Nomad?

    Posted: 14 Dec 2021 07:26 AM PST

I got tired of playing against DE AI, and wanted something different so I installed the AI Pack (1.4) and none of the AI start building on Nomad. I have it set on hard.

Looking for some new AI I can play against on Nomad. It's my favorite game mode.

    more info:

If I run a couple HD AI and DE AI, the HD AI does 2x the score of regular AI on hard, but is too easy on Moderate.

CD AI just builds walls and doesn't do much

    ... fun times

Voobly is completely broken and it sucks

    Posted: 14 Dec 2021 11:05 AM PST

I'm a Voobly player since 2016, and I really liked the platform for AOE2. But nowadays it's completely broken!!! Have so much patches that half off the games I play my hotkeys are gone. I'm tired of remaking the hotkeys... other patches are ugly or bugged...

Honestly, the platform is gone. I'm tired of playing AOE2 on voobly... since DE voobly just went downhill, with some trying of "renovate" the game using DE things, but every game you try to play have something different, on game the civ have Conquers tech, other have DE new tech, other game you have wololo (which is the good one), but for some reason your hotkey don't work because it's one patch completely random...

Fuck this, goodbye Voobly and farewell AOE2.

How to deal with jannisary mango

    Posted: 14 Dec 2021 05:20 AM PST

So i have played around with Turks on arena. I go 25 pop into a forward castle or 26 and castle at home if I expect some archers or scouts but will drop a second castle forward ASAP. To me it seems like janny mango is impossible to stop. They outrange everything in castle age, and mangos deal with skirms or arbs nicely if they have a decent mass and fights are getting unforcomtable.

Even if they manage to get a castle up, it's so easy to go around it. Hell, I've beaten a player who went guard tower, which should stop any push, by going to gold heavy, idling production and buying imp for bbc and trebs.

I'd like to hear how you have dealt with it. Thanks.
