Raiders of the Wild Fields DLC proposition

    Posted: 23 May 2022 08:47 AM PDT

In this topic is proposition of dlc based on Tatars and Cossacks. It could be inspiration for mod for someone as well. Any suggestions and opinions which will help complete and refine concept are welcome.

    Tatars

    Home City: Bağçasaray

    Personality: Devlet I Giray

    Explorer: Mirza (mounted explorer)

Tatars are cavalry based civ, their special mechanic are slave raids (all Tatar cavalry have capture stance where units attack slower but instead of killing unit they transform it into captive. Captives can be sold in slave market (Tatar special building) for resources and xp. Tatar infantry and artillery production are limited but could be significantly boosted by shipments.

    Infantry

SeÄŸmen- light infantry, skirmisher type unit

    Cavalry

Kazançi- melee cavalry armed with bassalick/maslak (type of flail/club), cheap and weak

Seferlu- light cavalry with bows (similar to javelin rider but more expensive and with greater range but with lower multiplier against Heavy Cavalry in melee mode), have charged attack- shoot while moving

Nöker- heavy melee cavalry, like hussar but a bit stronger and cheaper

    Bishlay- equivalent of dragoon

    Artillery

Zarbuzan- light artillery drawn by camel, similar to falconet but weaker

    Culverin

    Fleet

    Fishing Boat

    Galley

    Revolutions:

    Circassians

    Nogais

Tatars have limited infantry (can produce only skirmishers) and have access to other types of infantry (like Italian crossbowmen and Gothic Musketeer) by shipments. This civ will have also access to some Ottoman units (Janissaries, Mortars and Falconets) by cards.

    Zaporozhian Cossacks

    Home City: Chyhyryn

    Personality: Bohdan Khmelnytsky

Explorer: Otaman (similar to European explorers)

Zaporozhian Cossacks (or Ukrainian Cossacks/Ruthenians) are artillery and infantry based civ with limited cavalry. Their infantry units can build military buildings. Their strenght is combination of field fortifications or Gulay-Gorods/Tabor Wagons with infantry.

    Infantry

Chern- Cheap infantry armed with spears and forks, similar to Insurgente

Molodec- Musketeer type infantry (with higher ranged and melee attack than standard Musketeer but with lower multiplier vs cavalry)

Serdiuk- light infantry, skirmisher type unit

    Cavalry

Cossack Rider- Cheaper and much weaker equivalent of Hussar

Haidamak- light cavalry (equivalent of dragoon), can dismount

    Artillery

Gulay-Gorod- artillery, basically a movable wooden wall with muskets. Unit with high resistance vs ranged units, good vs other artillery. This unit have protection aura which gives units nearby additional ranged and melee resists.

Tabor Wagon- war wagon with small cannon. Tabor Wagon have much weaker attack than falconet but have good melee and ranged resistance. This unit have protection aura which gives units nearby additional ranged and melee resists.

    Falconet

    Culverin

    Mortar

    Fleet

    Fishing Boat

Chaika- big boat with oars armed with falconets

Baidak- Cog style ship armed with falconets

    Revolutions:

    Black Sea Cossacks

    Danube Cossacks

Age Of Empires 3 DE needs someone like T90 for the game and the devs need to make replays more accessible in order for that to happen

    Posted: 23 May 2022 01:34 AM PDT

I believe that the right personality streaming/putting the game on YouTube could drastically boost its popularity and we could see the return of large/fun tournaments. But the devs need to help make this easier, in Age of Empires 2 DE you can easily scroll through players and watch their replays, and the capture age for advanced replays is perfect for content creators. I hope that the AOE3 devs can implement some kind of system similar to this so that content creators can cast games from the top ladder players, and create fun playlists such as Low Elo Legends as well (without needing files to be sent to them). AOE3 DE is such an amazing game that is under marketed and not as well known as it should be. I really appreciate all the amazing work that the devs have done over the last year to make the game even better but I believe making replays more accessible would help attract a high quality content creator to the game providing free marketing. We currently don't have many great personalities representing the game on YouTube, and losing Drongo and a bunch of pro players to AOE4 was a painful blow. I love the Age of Empires franchise but AOE3 is probably my favorite game of the series so I'd really like to see it succeed and generate awesome tournaments in the future. What are your guy's thoughts on this idea?

China can get a factory through the russian consulate. The factory wagon speaks russian but when you create a heavy canon with the factory, the heavy cannon speaks German.

    That's it.

How does DLC work in multiplayer for people that have different ones or have none of them?

    Posted: 23 May 2022 07:37 AM PDT

It looks like we're going to be fed new DLC periodically, which I'm all in for, but how does this affect matchmaking in multiplayer? Do you enter a pool that only matches you with people with the exact same DLC that you have?

Or can vanilla players match with people using African civs and play African maps, for example? I guess it would imply that the data is updated into the game but unusable for them, but idk how it works (clearly).

    So how does it work?

How and when are animal units relevant?

    Posted: 23 May 2022 02:36 PM PDT

Are they only useful against guardians? Does any civ has a continued good use for them?

I never got to the high level matches in the old AoE3 (and now I mostly play skirmish) but the one time I was invited cuz someone needed a low level for balance, the strategy of an enemy involved sending team rhinos and they worked quite well but that was a 4 vs 4, so it was 8 rhinos being very annoying. Is there other scenario where I can say that those pets are relevant somehow?

Now that the Maltese are a civ, would you love the republic of pirates (Nassau) in the game ?

    Posted: 22 May 2022 08:00 PM PDT

I know it lasted only a few years but it would be fun to have a civ unlike the others.

    You could :

    • Make alliances with some euro civs to get their units,
    • Revolt to become the English and "revolt back" to become pirates again.
    • Civ focused on naval battles : you only have small ships but you can steal the bigger ones from your opponents
    • You get less coin from mining but you get coins after killing units
    • Multiple taverns/ saloons available with a unique skin for the pirates which produce cheaper units
    • Explorer skins : Edward Teach, Charles Vane, Jack Rackham, Anne Bonny,...
    • Home City customization : Nassau day or night, pirates celebrating, choose the skin of a ship in front of the home city, customize the fort skin, add crates of food/rhum/ gold

They could make this one with Marocco and or Persia.

What do you guys think ?

The Ranked System is (kind of) Broken

    Posted: 23 May 2022 11:27 AM PDT

In its current state, with a small player base, the AoE 3 ranked system is not very good. The natural advice from anyone is to say "Don't pay attention to ELO, its not an accurate reflection of your skill anyways." But that's the whole problem isn't it? These kinds of indications matter, not only as a form of gratification to climb but also to get a general indication of where you're at as a player. If the numerical system we have in place doesn't accomplish these things then why bother?

In my experience, I will gain at most bout 14 points for a win but lose on average about 19 to 20 points if I lose a game. With a win rate hovering around 55% the climb to just reach 1200 elo had become a slog in which a five game win streak is wiped out by back to back losses. In the meanwhile there are individuals with below 50% win rates with higher elo than me. The game currently punishes loss streaks and does not reward win streaks or even snapping those loss streaks. It just simply doesn't feel good fighting for that arbitrary number.

I know the developers occasionally scroll through these posts to get a feel on what the community is saying so I am hoping this gains some sort of traction here for them to see it. I wouldn't personally advocate for a wholesale rework because its not as if the matchmaking is busted, it works quite well honestly. But the "way" the ranked climb operates is a terrible experience in 1v1 specifically. Perhaps we can return to something similar in legacy that gave you a military ranking based on your win rate and could factor in who you are losing and winning against. Or even adopt over something like the casual ranked system to the ranked ladder. I'm not entirely sure how to make it both more enticing and fair but I find that the system currently in place was not given too much consideration in development and deserves to be revisited.

Thank you for allowing me this one rant. Maybe I'll post a poll to ask for everyone's thoughts on the matter later on.

    Help with walls

    Posted: 22 May 2022 09:28 PM PDT

How do you construct pillar-less walls in DE? In the old aoe, I just used to delete the unconstructed pillars and it worked just fine but in DE, that process leaves gaps enough for infantry to get in. To avoid this, I have to build the walls one unit at a time which seems like a monumental waste of time...

Aztec / Haud / Inca new card idea

    Posted: 22 May 2022 02:26 PM PDT

So, I got this cool idea for new cards that would affect Aztec and Hauds

as many of you are familiar with, all the native civs have big button abilities that allow them to get expensive but high-power techs, often resources or units.

there is even already a card for big button techs available in the third age called "the old ways" available for these civs that greatly lowers the cost of these upgrades. but nobody really sends this because by the time some of these techs are worth it you have more than enough economy to just use it immediately

that's because a lot of the techs are timing based on their effects, such as "send 1 (unit) for every X minutes that has passed (max 30 minutes)"

the big button upgrades that are timing based are available for Hauds, giving 500 of a resource for every 10 minutes that pass in a game (they have 1 for each resource), Inca which have timing based big buttons for spawning macemen and llamas, and Aztec who have almost ALL of their big button abilities unit shipments that are time based on how many you get

so my new card idea is this: an age 2 or 3 card that boosts the game timer specificly with timing based big buttons. lets say 10 minutes as an example, and using aztecs

so lets say its 8 minutes in the game. at your war hut is a big button ability that ships 1 puma spearmen for every 2 minutes that passes. it costs 750 coin. at 8 minutes that delivers 4 pumas, but if you ship this card, all the big buttons are boosted by 10 minutes, so you could spend 750 coin and get 9 pumas. also available at the house for 500 coin is the exact same thing but for otontin slingers. once you get to age 3, say at 12 minutes, at the farms for 600 food and 500 wood is a big button that gives 1 eagle runner for every 2 minutes, with this shipment counting for 10 extra minutes, thats 11 eagle runners.

the upgrades are still very expensive, so it wouldn't be broken or anything, as the buttons would require a lot of investment in the early game for them. and if you wanted to invest a second shipment into the old ways to make them cheaper, then cool

that means at 10 minutes with this shipment, hauds could spend 500 of each resource to get 1000 of each resource in crates, a neat little boom ability that requires some investment for a cool pay off

it means inca could get 5 macemen from their big button at the 10 minutemark, if they sent this card. and follow it up with llamas either for dancing or eating.

my point is, having this addition would not only open up an entirely new playstyle and strategy archetype for Aztec, but it would serve as a neat way to recover from a rush as Hauds, or do some wonky weird maceman strat with inca, and as you all know... I love my wonky strats

what do you think of my card idea? anyone got a developers ear? XD

Pondering the future of the game

    Posted: 21 May 2022 09:45 PM PDT

So with the addition of the European maps, something I have been dreaming for for a long time. I have started to think about where the devs could go next with our beloved game. There are plenty of new civs that could be easily added, Brazil, Poland-Lithuania, Korea, Kongo, etc. It seems like when the devs go to new regions they make whole new playstyles: wonder aging up for asia, the firepit/communal plaza for natuve Americans, federation age ups for revolutionary American civs. So Thinking about it I came up with three possible new "culture groups" that could be developed. Polynesia, the middle east, and Australia.

Now I'll be upfront I know very little of Australian aborigines, so I don't know their potential as a civ. They could definitely make minor civs on Australian themed maps, but aside from that they are a huge hole in my historical knowledge.

As for the middle east there were a number of dynasties that ruled out of Iran who fought India, the Ottomans, and Russia that would be a good candidate for a civ, likely called the Persians, which is something lots of people have brought up in the past. Morroco; although not geographically in the middle east is closer culturally than sub Sahara Africans, already have a scenario, and Morroco was a player in the Mediterranean for a while, fighting with the Ottomans, Portugal and Spain, even at one point plotting with England to take Spain's colonies and splitting them amongst themselves.

Polynesia would likely have the Kingdom of Hawaii, and the Maori. Hawaii was unified during this period. King Kamehameha used European supplied firearms to dominate the other Hawaiians, so there is a lot of potential. In New Zealand the Maori were introduced to firearms by the British which started the musket wars between the maori tribes. The Tongans and Samoans would likely become minor civs

Aside from those three I don't see them putting out any more major dlc like African Royals, or Knights of the Mediterranean. I think they will stick to smaller dlcs, releasing individual civs one at a time as they develope them.

Or I could be wrong on every point. I am just speculating, but it's fun to try and guess these things. Would love to hear what everyone else thinks

    MP is making me rage

    Posted: 21 May 2022 02:08 PM PDT

This is just not for me. I tried to enjoy competitive MP but with my underperforming Laptop there is just no chance; I get fucking hussars from left and right, try to react, I can't, then I lose 2 vills each time. Tryhards with their fancy atom reactors just keep making me feel like shit and it's fucking frustrating.

I'm done with this game until I can't afford a normal PC.
