Re: aoestats.io and balance patches for DE Posted: 11 Oct 2019 05:16 AM PDT Hey all! For those of you who are unaware there is a website that tracks win/losses on voobly and has been running for around a year. https://aoestats.io/?elo=ALL Whilst there were a lot of naysayers in the early days who claimed that there was insufficient data to draw any conclusions from it, the website has consistently shown certain civs to be objectively superior to others: Franks consistently have a win rate of 60%+ at all ELO ratings, whilst Khmer have sub-40% win rates. I appreciate that there is a qualitative aspect to win/loss ratios which is not acknowledged here but for the most part the win rates are reflective of general community sentiment about the relative strengths of different civs. Does anyone know if this data is being actively employed to address balance issues in the upcoming DE release? Tower rushes aside, when do you build towers? Posted: 10 Oct 2019 08:37 AM PDT I just want to know other ways to utilize this building outside of tower rushes. For clarity sake, let's not include bombard towers. [link] [comments]
Posted: 11 Oct 2019 08:57 AM PDT I have been looking for a good source of maps for aoe2 that are more balanced. When I watch the pros play or t90s stream I see them playing on balanced versions of maps like Arabia. Is there an easy place to get all these maps? I look in the steam workshop and it is just a mess. I haven't started playing on voobly, but if that is where the better maps are, I will make the move. Thanks in advance. [link] [comments]
One thing I'd really like to see in Definitive Edition: AI capable of winning on the Islands map. Posted: 11 Oct 2019 05:45 AM PDT There are plenty of other maps the AI can't function on, such as Nile Delta etc. It would be great if the AI could be overhauled so it can work in these scenarios. I first played AOE2 on PS2 as a kid (yes, PS2!) and fell in love with it. I quickly nagged my Dad to get it on PC for me which, down the line, had us both playing against each other for hours over LAN. I put the game down for many years after that and have come back after hearing about DE. But now I see the meta has formed and it's a bit scary getting into PvP matches where human players have refined the game down to a formula. Being able to practice all scenarios against AI would be a great place to start, at least while I learn my basic build orders for different map types. Maybe then I could try playing against someone who is practiced in the current meta. The other thing I've noticed is the AI sometimes spams naval units when the map is mostly land. It detects one patch of water, builds a few docks and then fills that patch of water up with ships, even though the map is mostly land. It's prone to doing this on river type maps as well. These faults can seriously limit the AI's effectiveness and thus impact a solo player's ability to learn. I'm sure there are other things I haven't mentioned too. But if there was one bit of feedback I wish for the game devs to hear, it would probably be this. Thanks for hearing me out folks :) P.s. Feel free to help me understand why this is even a problem in the first place with a comment below - is it really that hard to script the AI to send a vil over sea when it runs out of resources? Is there a good step by step Aoe2 guide. Posted: 11 Oct 2019 05:29 AM PDT There are build order guides everywhere, but i dont know which one to start. Which build order must be learned first. I get destroyed whenever i play in voobly. I am playing open maps because in bf or arena you're wasting time, games take twice as much. Would it be better to first learn close maps and then open maps. Lastly i don't want to be pro but i want to just hold my ground if a friend challenges me or at least playing some competetive matches time to time. [link] [comments]
How to defend from Trush+Archers? Posted: 11 Oct 2019 03:34 AM PDT I was just about to build a stable for a scout rush, when the enemy walzed into my base trying to build a tower. K no problem I thought, I'm just gonna kill his villagers with mine/build a defensive tower. That's when the archers appeared. I only had barracks at this point so panicking, I made some spears (yea not the best decision). But I don't think I would have been able to stop the rush with the 4-5 milita I could have made from the resources I still had. I couldn't gather more due to the archers, who were coming in greater numbers since he had built two archery ranges close to my base. So unable to build any other defensive towers (he had towered my stone), with no military to defend myself and no means of resource production I had to give up. I haven't been trushed that often before, so I'm a bit unsure what to do if archers come into the mix. Had I had an archery range I could've produced skirms to counter but I didn't. Of course, had I seen that he was mining stone in his base (which I didn't), I could have prepared. Other than that is there any way to counter an attack like that? [link] [comments]

Anyone else having trouble making the Windows Store Beta appear? Posted: 10 Oct 2019 07:55 PM PDT I got an email saying i got in but when i check my insider content its not there. :(((( [link] [comments]
Posted: 10 Oct 2019 11:50 AM PDT If you assume a map like BF what's the strategy with Aztec in late imperial versus Japanese or some equivalent civ like Slavs that have trash+infantry+trebuchet spam in one of those tight wood corridors? Redemption monks converting seige onagers and bombard cannons is stupidly effective if it works but you can't convert trebs at range. Other than my own seige onagers and maybe a ram Aztecs are missing a way to deal with protected artillery. Eagles aren't cost effective. Is the solution just to flood in champions or 2H swordsmen, since jags get countered by samurai? Assume that this is 1800HD+, ie, not necessarily a game with something unusual like the opponent forgetting to research any blacksmith techs or something. [link] [comments] |
