Civilization Match-up Discussion Round 7 Week 8: Incas vs Turks

Edit: Whoops the title should say Round 7 Week 9, but I forgot to change it. Too late now LUL

'Twas the night before DE, and all through the reddit - every memer was shitposting, even a wolf.

Hello and welcome back for another Age of Empires 2 civilization match up discussion! This is a series where we discuss the various advantages, disadvantages, and quirks found within the numerous match ups of the game. The goal is to collectively gain a deeper understanding of how two civilizations interact with each other in a variety of different settings. Feel free to ask questions, pose strategies, or provide insight on how the two civilizations in question interact with each other on any map type and game mode. This is not limited to 1v1 either. Feel free to discuss how the civilizations compare in team games as well! So long as you are talking about how the two civilizations interact, anything is fair game! Last week we discussed the Ethiopians vs Huns, and next up is the Incas vs Turks!

    Incas: Infantry Defensive civilization

    • Start with a free llama
    • Villagers affected by infantry Blacksmith upgrades
    • Houses support 10 population
    • Buildings cost -15% stone
    • TEAM BONUS: Farms built 2x faster
    • Unique Unit: Kamayuk (Powerful spearman with 1 range)
    • Unique Unit: Slinger (Anti-Infantry archer)
    • Castle Age Unique Tech: Andean Sling (Slingers and Skirmishers no minimum range)
    • Imperial Age Unique Tech: Couriers (Kamayuks, Slingers, and Eagles get +1/+2 armor)

    Turks: Gunpowder civilization

    • Gunpowder units +25% hp
    • Researching gunpowder techs costs -50%; Chemistry free
    • Gold Miners work +20% faster
    • Light Cavalry and Hussar free
    • TEAM BONUS: Gunpowder units are created +25% faster
    • Unique Unit: Janissary (Powerful, general-purpose hand cannon)
    • Castle Age Unique Tech: Sipahi (Cav Archers +20 hp)
    • Imperial Age Unique Tech: Artillery (Bombard Towers, Bombard Cannons, and Cannon Galleons +2 range)

Below are some match up-specific talking points to get you all started. These are just to give people ideas, you do not need to address them specifically if you do not want to!

    • So uhhh yeah this one does not exactly look great for Turks. Regardless, for 1v1 Arabia, if the Turks can survive the early onslaught of Incan agression, will Janissaries prove to be an unstoppable, un-counterable threat?
    • In a late game scenario with no gold, neither of these civs exactly shine. Can Turks raid Incas to death by virtue of having a great food dump in the Hussar, or will Incas be able to grind them down with fully upgraded Halbs and Skirms?
    • In a team game, both of these civs are reasonably strong flanks: Incas have a deadly early game, strong towers, and can generally counter whatever their counterpart is doing. Meanwhile, Turks have a variety of options from which to choose, including Janis, Cav Archers, or even Xbows into one of those. Late game they have access to deadly BBTs and BBCs. Whom do you favor?

Thank you as always for participating! Next week we will continue our discussions with the Celts vs Koreans (on DE balance!). Hope to see you there! :)

Apologies if this falls under the "Low effort content" rule, but I'm curious as to what exact time the DE unlocks on Steam tomorrow.

I checked Cumans' Tech Tree, and...

...wow, their defense is utter sh!t, with no Stone Walls, no gunpowder units, and no Architect!

I think I owe Goths some apology now.

Any news on multi farm creation?

    Posted: 13 Nov 2019 02:48 AM PST

When you have 4 vills and build 4 farms, all of them go to the last one

Is there any DE improvement that will make them spread out to all 4?

How can you make / use a cheat to destroy enemy buildings by clicking on them and hitting delete in the campaigns specifically? Look, the building destruction animations are half the reason I'm going to buy the game and I'm not going to slug through campaigns again like when I was little

    Posted: 12 Nov 2019 09:56 PM PST

TYPO- title should have mentioned this is only about AoE2 DE

What's the next best option to get the story experience of the campaign and the godlike power of instantly destroying enemy buildings/ seeing those animations?

I guess a cheat to get infinite saboteurs? I'm a casual gamer as you can tell. Just trying to that AoE2 nostalgic feel + see the beautiful new art / building destruction animations, I don't really like real time strategy that much anymore.

The only thing that is bugging me out: The campaign's slideshows.

1.The background is definitely an improvement. I don't have anything bad to say about it.

2.Fonts. They are horrible. Almost all are the same Arial or Times New Roman font. Look the original slideshows: Each one is different, and relatable to the story that they are telling us. I don't know how to describe it, but just look the differences between the Mongolian font in AoC and in AoE2:DE. I know obviously that Mongolians don't use an Latin alphabet, but that font makes like they would write like this, instead of that boring accounting-type Arial font. And this is not only the problem with the slideshows. The rest of the game (except the main menu) use a bold Times New Roman font that looks just plastered over the buttons. I am not saying this is unplayable, but it could be better, a more original one that feels more relatable to the Dark Ages.

Look at me. I am whining over some stupid fonts.

3.The slideshow's art. All of them have the same comicish style. IT IS WELL DRAWN, but looks odd in a story about the Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire. Again with the Mongolian campaign: The art there looks rustic, brutal, made of coal pencil, perfect to tell the story about how a poor nomad forged the biggest empire in the history, raided and destroyed everything in his way.

4.Voice acting. Well, just talking about the Spanish Voice acting: It sounds very neutral, without accent, like they are not the real people telling the story. I only heard the English voice acting in the William Wallace campaign, and that was a very good job right there, a truly badass scott narrating his time with Wallace.
