Matchmaking Improvements: A small punishment for quitters?

    Posted: 20 Dec 2019 01:41 AM PST

So they fixed alot of stuff in the December update, I really love it.

Regarding ranked matches I have a few ideas how we can improve even further:

    - Can we get a punishment for people who surrender in the first few minutes? (Maybe a 5-10 minute queue timeout?)
I often find myself in the queue waiting for 5-8mins and when I finally find a game someone quits in the first minute.

    - Reconnection: I dont know if this is possible, if so its probably hard to implement but we really need a reconnect feauture for people who have a disconnection. This would also help fixing problem one.

What is your opinion on this?

    Right order of playing campaigns

    Posted: 20 Dec 2019 06:06 AM PST

Hey all, I started doing the campaigns (in DE) and i wonder if there is a best or maybe just better way to play the different campaigns in order. I wish to complete a campaign if i started a mission. I get that you could order them in difficulty or you could order them in time of release. Any suggestions?

My own fan theory: Huns' Villages are captured slaves.

    Posted: 20 Dec 2019 12:54 AM PST

Why do I think that way? In Definitive Edition, 3 civilizations went through architect changes - Spanish went from Western Europe to Southern Europe, Byzantines went from Middle East to Southern Europe, and Vietnamese went from Southeast Asia to East Asia - all of which are actually kind of fitting.

Huns, on the other hand, still has Central/Northern Europe architect even though they're supposed to be from Central Asia or maybe even East Asia, which is why I'm assuming that Huns' villagers are battle slaves from Goths, which also has Central/Northern Europe architect.

Admittedly, I'm not a history expert, but if I remember correctly, Goths were some of the first group of people to get attacked by Huns. I suppose that this was applied by having Huns to have Central/Northern Europe architect instead of anything from Asia since it's actually Gothic slaves who are building those structures for Huns. I'm also assuming that this is why Huns don't build houses.

As for that Huns' Wonder that is obviously from Western Roman Empire, I think that is supposed to represent Huns at its prime, where it came very close to destroying the said empire at one point.

    Just a thought. :)

Big Interview with two Single Player Developers for Definitive Edition

    Posted: 20 Dec 2019 05:46 AM PST

A little while ago a major interview with two of the principal single player developers for the Definitive Edition was posted on Age of Kings Heaven. It goes into a lot of detail on the behind the scenes works on both the new campaigns and the revamps for the older ones. Definitely worth checking out!

    Design another konnik like unit

    Posted: 20 Dec 2019 04:07 AM PST

Konniks have a novel concept in the game, they are calvary that become infantry after dying, so their counters are different.

What about doing the same with different kind of units?

Like a calvary archer that becomes an archer. Maybe too OP, is should need to be weak in both lifes to be balanced.

Or an acher that after dying, gights with his sword. The original concept of the samurai was an unit bot able to shoot and fight in melee with a command, but it was discarded because it was complicated. The konnik system is simple enough for this kind of unit. It would require an special animation to take his sword and leave the bow, but it can be done

Other crazy ideas? A konnik big ship that leaves a smaller ship? A big shield and slow infantry guy that fights without shield after dying, faster but weaker?

AoE2: DE new patch map pool

    Posted: 20 Dec 2019 06:19 AM PST

How do we fix the new map pool? I actually liked the initial map pool a bit, but this new one is cancer. How do we get the developers to fix it?

Which nation's history that you've learned about thanks to AOE2 do you find the most fascinating?

    Posted: 20 Dec 2019 05:59 AM PST

Oh and also should probably bear in mind not to include the historical inaccuracies for the tweaked campaigns where the protagonist wins because protagonist, cause yeah Spoiler alert: William Wallace and the Aztecs don't actually win.

    [BUG] Waypoints are broken

    Posted: 19 Dec 2019 06:01 PM PST

    https://youtu.be/gAfuwrf7Qf4

Movement oftentimes felt off the last couple of weeks. Today it did cost me a game and I felt like investigating it:

When shift-queuing waypoints the fourth seems to get skipped quite regulary. (I was very sure, that it would be the fourth again in the video, but instead the game decided to skip the fifth and the last one.)

    • It happens regardless if the next point is in sight of the unit or not
    • It also happens regardless of the speed I queue, it tends to happen more often when I click rapidly, though

I can reproduce it every second or third time, but I haven't found the pattern, yet. Please upvote, so this gets fixed quickly.

    Ranked MegaRandom

    Posted: 19 Dec 2019 11:31 AM PST

I absolutely love it. The sheer confusion and panic while you try to figure out just what the hell is happening, who the hell you are, where the hell is everything. It's great.

Also when enemy players quit so you send villies over to steal their food in Dark Age. That's a power play.

Best postimperial militia line? Uses of postimperial bulgarian line?

    Posted: 20 Dec 2019 04:18 AM PST

Yesterday i tested the two sword bulgarian guys with the unic tech against japanese champions, slavs champions with druszina or burmese champions.

They always lost quite fast. They are also weaker against arrows. Are they that weak compared with other champions? Who, in your opinion, is the best militia line?

I think druszhina is the winner, followed by japanese.

Why do Teutonic Knights wear long capes?

    Posted: 20 Dec 2019 04:15 AM PST

CAPES!! Capes of all things! Have you ever seen a soldier (in actual combat, not on parade) dressed in a cape? Don't answer that, it was rhetorical. Of course you haven't. Cos CAPES ARE DUMB! Yeah I know Superman wears capes, but he's a damn alien (and not a soldier, I might add). Real soldiers don't wear capes, it just gives the enemy something to grab onto to pull you down before stabbing you in the face. Yes, this includes medieval knights. Good luck getting all that melee armor to protect you when you're on the ground with the visor of your buckethead helm lifted up. Speaking of which, have you ever seen a Teutonic Knight on the floor? Of course not, cos the devs know that in reality they'd be there all the damn time, right before dying. So they just didn't include that model, in order to mischievously sell us this idea that REAL MEN WEAR CAPES! No, they bloody well don't! Hell, real men don't even wear long hair - just ask the Romans, who even used it to differentiate their legions (who had to cut it short, setting the trend for men for the next couple millennia) from those unwashed barbarians just outside their borders. And if you know anything about the Romans, you'll know they were most definitely REAL MEN. Bloody (very bloody!) Julius Caesar is proof of that - guy literally shit-talked and threatened to kill the pirates who captured him when he was younger, and then came back and ACTUALLY FUCKING KILLED THEM!! That's the mark of the REAL MAN right there, not wearing pansy-ass capes. They even conquered the Greeks, and those dudes knew a thing or two about being REAL MEN - their manliness was often so overwhelming they could only find true companionship with other, obviously similarly manly, men. Cos REAL MEN can't possibly be satisfied by a woman. And even the medieval knights, from which the Teutonic order arose, knew this. They may have taken on wives for the sake of procreation (and the more faithful ones even gave that up), but trust me that they knew how to show off their manliness to make sure no one fucking doubted it. And it wasn't by wearing a damn oversized shawl. So if the devs want to convey just how badass the Teutonic Knights were, ditch the damn capes. You know what they SHOULD wear?

THIS! + THIS and THIS Now that would be the only ensemble truly worthy of the pinnacle of mankind.

Age of Empires 2 OG CD discs

    Posted: 20 Dec 2019 05:30 AM PST

Hi, i'm not here to brag, i just want to know if anyone has the original CD discs of Age of Empires 2 and The Conquerors expansion from their very first release so i can ask you if you can share each CD files online to me compressed so i can burn them into a CD virgin disc for collection, i don't want to buy the originals since they're too expensive and i'm not into that. Most versions online are edited with a crack folder and what not, that's why i'm asking for the originals. Thanks in advance.

(Please don't be pessimistic and insult or anything, i'm too fed up for that thanks to Reddit in general. So don't even comment if you're not going to help or say you don't have it or anything that isn't helpful. Thanks for reading.)
