Posted: 04 Jan 2020 02:42 PM PST TL;DR: 2 toxic veteran players joined my noob lobby (my experience = under 3 months) specifically for noobs just to make fun of me and steamroll me. Proof of chat available on request. So I'm a relatively new player, nearly 3 months into trying to git gud. I made a post for a fellow bunch of Noobs to play Michi - a fun map that is good for exercising your boom and fast Imp strategies. Call it a noob map if you want, I'm a noob who made a noob post for a noob game to play with other noobs. So anyway, the other team has a decent score lead the entire time but hey, these maps can turn very quickly if you manage to attack trade. Not concerned. Anyway, it becomes very apparent at one point, when the second breach through the trees resulted in a losing battle, that these players had the edge. Probably just better players. FAIR ENOUGH. But one of the players on the other team starts gloating, 11's everywhere, making fun that I chose a noob map and, of course, "ALL HAIL..." ... Well, I decide that I'm gonna put up a fight if they want to be toxic. So I tower absolutely everywhere, and spam what units I can and send some 11's back. I try counter a few times with cav archer rushes, which were effectively countered. Then he/she starts getting really troll-y, saying that I shouldn't have laughed at them, despite the fact they started laughing at me and gloating first. It was just a laugh right? Well, apparently he was the only one that gets to poke fun. It became apparent this wasn't a Noob. Neither of them were. So I outright asked them... How long have they played? 1997 and 2000 was their answer. (Proof possible) At this point the player got very insulting and childish. They both joined a noob match just to crush me, a noob who hasn't been playing 3 months vs their 20 years. Kinda like how bullies pick on smaller folks. They were so upsetting to play against and for the god damn life of me I just simply don't understand why someone would purposefully join a match with new players just to steamroll them? And also try make them feel like shet? I waited till the very last building was down just to spite them. And sadly, this wasn't the first time this has happened. It seems posting NOOB games just paints a giant target on your head these days. I must say though, this was the first time playing someone that outright nasty... I think I'm gonna jump to DE now, I think I might prefer the Matchmaking system they have over subjecting myself to that kind if assholery. And it makes me wander if this is a reason why they changed it? Someone restore my faith in the community... Tell me DE's system counters Noob hunters? (And if you really wanna see how horrible he was I have pics of the chats. I would just need a moment to blur the name before posting.) Thanks for taking the time to read this vent, sorry for the long post and please don't be like this... It's basically the figurative version of a grown adult stranger walking up to a toddler learning to walk, shouting in their face when they can't run fast and then punching them in the stomach before walking away. Despite that toxic player, happy 2020! Edit: Thanks for the discussions, its helped me come to terms with the fact the AoE2 community is no different to others, it has bad apples. I think DE is the way forward after this, at least till I "git gud". [link] [comments]
Unique Techs - are they in a good place right now? Posted: 05 Jan 2020 05:32 AM PST AoC introduced the concept of unique technologies - instead of differences in units, research availability, and traits, civilizations would be further differentiated by technologies researched at the castle. Every single one got one in the Imperial Age, though the Goths got an additional one in the Castle Age. These unique technologies typically complemented their civs' playing style, or added another dimension to their gameplay. Fast forward to The Forgotten and every non-Goth civ (as well as the newcomers) got a second unique technology, mostly in the Castle Age (for a notable exception, the Britons' Yeomen tech was moved to the Castle Age to accomodate their new Imperial Age tech Warwolf). This helped further flesh out each civs' unique flavor (for instance, Franks got a huge boon in their Chivalry UT, in addition to the buffs they got in this expansion). Since then, every new civ has had two unique techs. However, some unique techs have tended to be very situational at best. It's gotten to the point where Forgotten Empires changed the Persian Castle Age UT from the seldom-used Boiling Oil to the really useful Kamandaran (the former boosted Castle damage against rams, the latter made the archer line wood-costing trash units, which complements their food- and gold-heavy cavalry-based armies). So, which unique technologies do you like the best? Which ones can be improved, overhauled, or even replaced altogether? [link] [comments]

How different does the AI play compared to a regular player? Posted: 05 Jan 2020 01:15 AM PST Hello! Noob here. Somehow stumbled across AOE2:HD videos 5 or so months ago from T90, then watched the Hidden Cup #2 (So good), then started watching Viper etc more regularly, also was cheering for Fast Dragon in HC2 :) Anyway, I can beat the "Standard" AI difficulty now fairly often, it takes me on average of 90-100 minutes of in game time, 60-80 real life time. I find they can get the Castle and Imp faster than me, but I survive then win, just. Anyway, as the title says, how much different does a regular person play compared to AI? I've noticed they wont start attacking me until Castle Age at least, I guess that's one difference? Anything else? Thanks for the tips, haven't played another human yet... [link] [comments]
Am i the only one that keeps getting disconnected from ranked games online? Posted: 04 Jan 2020 02:38 PM PST Every other game ends with me getting disconnected, sometimes it happens to the other players. My elo is tanking so hard because of it and I just wanna have fun with this great game :'( [link] [comments]

Why don't Magyar, Mongols have Steppe lancers? Posted: 05 Jan 2020 01:03 AM PST Just curious, I was under the impression that the historical armies of both had these things. I think turks did too but I understand from a game mechanic perspective why not (Turks weren't steppe nomads but they had to deal with steppe nomads a good amount and learned from them) [link] [comments]

Posted: 05 Jan 2020 03:41 AM PST So I just booted the DE after not playing this game for 20 years. I'm on the 3rd Joan campaign and went to attack. I destroyed the town center, and every building and villager I could find. I did leave 3 guard towers, as was trying to mitigate losses while I rebuild. To destroy a civ and remove them from the game do I need to destroy the guard towers? Have I left a villager alive somewhere? I'm kinda worried they will rebuild, but I can't find any units. Just wondering what's the criteria for actually removing them from the game. [link] [comments]
Posted: 05 Jan 2020 03:35 AM PST Give Tarkans a lance for normal combat but let them throw torchets at buildings from a small distance Give Keshiks gold per kill instead of gold per second in combat Make Elephant Archers usefull and more realistic. Right now they are just a expensive, ignoble, low-class War Wagons. Give them trample damage (elephants like to stamp on people!) or atleast let them have multiple archers on top Please let me know what you think. Also, what unit would you like to see reworked in 2020? [link] [comments]
How does anyone counter the Britons? Posted: 04 Jan 2020 11:35 AM PST Everytime I play against them they just mass produce longbows. With their range they're pretty unstoppable on most maps. Especially on maps like blackforest or arena...I can't do anything against them. Ive tried skirms but they still get out ranged. I've tried light cavalry with skirms still no luck. I've also tried onagors but they also get out ranged. Any suggestions? Edit: Obviously the Goths work but if I'm playing ranked I really don't have a choice as I don't which civ they'll pick??? I meant specific units or strategies that apply to all civs. Edit 2: Thanks for the answers! The ram idea is genius, never thought of that. Definitely going to do. [link] [comments]

Summary of balance changes for DE Posted: 05 Jan 2020 03:29 AM PST Does anyone know of a source that has summarised notes for the balance changes to DE from Wololo kingdoms on voobly? For example towers getting nerfed etc.? Is Definitive edition a follow on from HD or Wololo kingdoms on voobly and are they the same thing? [link] [comments]

Anyone getting annoyed by the horse bug in Steppe? Posted: 04 Jan 2020 02:03 PM PST Originally, I don't mind the bug. However, people started to use the bug to lame my ship early game, and my tc arrows can't even touch the horse. Also, I couldn't find my last two sheeps normally because they get lamed. It seems like the only way to deal with that is to abuse the bug and lame back? [link] [comments] |
