    I already own the Aoe 2 (2013) on steam and been playing it quite a bit lately( Singleplayer only) Is it worth buying the aoe 2 definitive edition? Is it a better experience?

    Despite the fact that DE says that it requires Win10, some people had said that they have successfully installed it on Win7. I like Win7 and I don't want to switch to 10. Now that some time has passed since release, what are experiences on it?

    Help.

    Here is my problem:

    For example, the enemy will be franks, and I'll be chinese.

    We'll have roughly equal armies. The enemy will have skirms and crossbows, pikes, and knights. I'll have Pikes, Chukonu, and Light Cav.

    I can never fight the enemy on good grounds. It always seems like they have the upper micro hand. I cannot touch his skirms without his cav and halbs being personally placed to counter. Meanwhile, the skirms slowly pick off my Cho Ku No, and I'm left like a sitting duck.

    Does anyone have any tips? I often have bigger armies, but I cannot seem to fight correctly.

    (PS: another minor problem, how to stop 1 or 2 units running off and fighting the enemy alone? Do you stick them on Defensive?)

    Lunar New Year Challenges are Time-Gated???? I decided to wait until the day before the event ended to unlock the profile pictures, and now I find I can't even complete the challenges without waiting. I don't think I'll be able to get the 3rd profile picture before the end of the event. Not happy :(

    Trying to have a specific sort of match vs. AI

    Long time lurker. Apologies if this is a dumb question. I've looked for answers but I'm not even sure how to phrase a search correctly.

    When I play against the AI sometimes, I'll start with 1 AI ally on a ludicrous-sized map & trade & gather resources until there's practically nothing left, then change relationship to Enemy and battle. However, on Moderate, the AI seems to always declare war pretty early on, which I can handle, but it interrupts the peaceful nature of microing economic stuff. It doesn't turn on me on easier difficulties but it also doesn't build much of an army and it's always a slaughter.

    So my question is:

    I like doing only economic stuff & and then only military stuff, basically. How can I keep the AI from changing teams until way later (on harder difficulties) ? Or is this just against the fundamental nature of the game? Thanks in advance.

    EDIT: I've also tried giving the ally tons of resources & telling him to build an army, but it doesn't seem to work very well.

    Should I buy og aoe2 or definitive?

    Just wondering which version is better/more active (and will be more active into the future). My computer is also low end (Not complete spud) it had dedicated graphics but it's a pretty bad card. Will I struggle to run the nu aoe2?

    n00b question about Gun Powder units

    Just grabbed AOE2:DE and have been practicing 1v1 w/ a friend. I haven't played this game since the EE days of early 2000.

    My question is pretty simple (and/or stupid) but I was playing Teuton and he was playing Britons.

    Apparently Britons can't get gun powder units (Bombard Cannons, Hand Cannoneers, etc...) so late game I pretty much annihilated his Trebuchet/Catapults and Archers etc... to the point where it seemed unfair and kind of boring...

    Is there a better way to play or practice at this game? I saw the Full Tech Tree options but seems kind of boring since it pretty much strips away anything and everything about the different civs minus the aesthetics?

    Any input would be greatly appreciated :-D

    DE taking way more memory than it should

    Whenever I try to start a new game (even 2 players on tiny map with minimum graphics), my RAM is getting full and the game instantly crashes. The only way I can play DE, is with virtual memory, which both makes my computer slower and damages the disk. Minimum requirements for this game is 4GB RAM, My computer has 16GB RAM. I do have few programs running on the background, but i still have 10+ GB free, and the game should work fine even with 4GB... Is this a bug, or is the game's minimum RAM is really more than 10GB?

    Trump, the SC/HS players is trying out AoE2.

    Check him out. I've been watching for a few weeks and he's getting good pretty quickly. He's around 1300 elo right now. Has one youtube video and is currently the highest view twitch streamer for AoE2.
