    Microsoft has to fix/provide features that are crucial to an online multiplayer game and the community needs to be more demanding to get this done!

    It's bizarre that a popular game like AOE still lacks fundamental features that are critical to an online multiplayer game, especially given the recent influx of people towards it and it getting better spotlight. Microsoft has to immediately do something so that it doesn't lose out on this player base, so what are these features that are absent for which I'm ranting here:

    1. Reconnect: It's horrifying to play an online game without a reconnect feature, this means that every-time someone leaves you either have to continue playing without them ( which is super shitty if you are playing with a group of friends) or you are forced to remake the lobby again and start which is a huge pain and waste of time. The save and reload feature which is also super confusing and painful to use is simply not good enough. It's 2020 and every other online game has it and there is no reason for AOE to not have it.
    2. Spectating: No clue why it is so hard for me to spectate a friends game and/or a lobby, they either have to stream or I have to be really good at filtering and finding lobbies to spectate those games now. Why can't there be a way to just view the games in which my friends are in? Why do I have to search and find them in an ocean of games?
    3. Better servers: The game crashes 3/5 times due to lags and server kicks. Microsoft is not a small Indie company to have such poor infrastructure ( given how a small indie company like Valve is doing a much better job). These lags and kicks are super frustrating and demoralises the player base.
    4. Bugs and fixes: These were promised to be fixed long ago and are still existent, melee unit pathing is still dogshit, path finding isn't optimised and numerous bugs. While they may not be able to fix everything they need to fix the crucial ones atleast, it's about time they did.

    I have recently started playing this game with my friends and we all really enjoy the game and want to play more of it, but it's things like this that's making it hard for us to enjoy the game and stay with it. And I believe the game in and of itself is getting huge traction in the recent times and it's Microsofts job that it makes sure that it doesn't lose out on the player base due to things like this which are super basic and fixable.

    And finally I hope this community becomes a bit more vigilant and critical and demands Microsoft for a better player experience.

    Which campaigns/scenarios have the best looking, most well crafted and immersive maps and world-building? I found this video about a map design competition and there was some jaw-dropping eye candy to see in there. Any campaigns that are like that?

    Hey guys!

    I'm an AOE 2 (ultra) noob, looking for some friends to play with and practice with.

    My gaming time is limited because I have two kids and a tiny apartment, but I bought a new gaming laptop so I can sit on the lounge and play whenever I get the chance.

    So my question is, does anyone want to start a clan and play together? I personally am getting wrecked in ranked and need someone equally bad to practice with.

    I had a 3v3 today and as soon as the game started one of the players on the other team started complaining about matchmaking being broken and said that their team was two 1200s and one 2200 vs three of us all being 2200.

    I get that you can look up people's elos but the speed with which he did it makes me think he's seeing it in game, is there a mod or something that does this?

    I've been playing AOE2 ever since I was two years old on my dad's old work laptop and for the longest time I thought I was the only person who knew about it. But after two remasters and seeing the community grow and grow to the incredible Hidden Cup 3, I just have to join this incredible group.     I join these games expecting something more laid back, but out of 240 games i've only won 4 games online, and all that happens in 2v2s or 3v3s is that by castle age, the enemy team usually is steamrolling with knights and games end after 20mins..

    Are people intentionally hosting noob games to lure in noobs for Easy wins?

    tiny rework proposal for teutons

    Currently, all the civ bonus fills too much space, and the player usually prefers to have their units on field instead of in their buildings.

    I propose the following:

    REMOVE THE FOLLOWING BONUSES:

    • Towers garrison twice as many units.
    • Town Centers can garrison +10 units.

    ADD THE FOLLOWING BONUS:

    • Garrisoned units have double healing rate and adds double extra arrows . (sorry if my english is not good enough ;/)

    With these changes, teuton defenses would increase their damage potential with only few units, so their bases would be easier to defend. Also, units would be healed faster, so players could use them more actively. However, they would lost the ability of garrisoning a lot of people instantly, which can be useful little times.

    current bonus are almost never used because the cost of garrisoning units in field usually doesnt worth it. With these changes, i think some more players may be encouraged to use the "tower push style" that are intended for teutons.

    If this becomes a huge buff they could remove the "free murder holes" bonus to avoid setting annoying tower rushs in castle.

    Also, a line would be saved in their civ bonus description... which is fine

    Garrison advice

    Hello fellow conquerors, I need advice when it comes to garrisoning villagers. I've seen pros simply selecting them and giving the command to garrison/ungarrison and the villagers resuming work. When I try to replicate, my villagers usually go to a way point i've put on the wood line, not going to the work they did previously (as intended of course). Is there an interaction/command I am missing? I looked in the hotkeys settings and couldn't find anything. Since I am a noob, maybe i missed it?

    Ranked Queue Questions

    Whats up with the Rank queue placing me against people who have notably higher MMR than I do? Even been placed with people who have almost double my MMR.

    Is there not some sort of system that stop me from being placed against people who are significantly higher than I am? Or is it one of those cases where the queue is very empty so it just tries to find any game.

    some questions on maps/modding

    I own AOE 2: HD edition.

    I also own Age of Mythology and I like the infinite farm food feature in that game, so you don't have to, essentially, convert wood to food by building new farms all the time via the queue system. is there a way to get this on AoE 2 as well? mods?

    A second question relates to maps. is there a way to see a preview of a custom map in-game? im thinking about playing vs AI on random map.

    Multiplayer AoE2: HD Edition and Aoe2: Definitive Edition?
