    Pick Civ vs Random Civ

    Posted: 20 Jul 2020 03:33 AM PDT

I'm guessing this has been discussed before but Random civ is one feature I really miss about the old Voobly game, because now I end up just playing it safe, only choosing my strongest civs in ranked matches. But I also like the new anonymity of picking civs without the opponent knowing who you picked. So I think the DE version could satisfy both by just adding two little tickboxes:

    □ Pick Civ □ Random Civ

If you only tick Pick Civ, you only match with other civ pickers or players who ticked both. Tick Random Civ and you only get random civ games or double tick players. If you tick both, then the Select Civ button will either go greyed out if it finds a Random Civ player or stay red if you match with a Pick Civ player. If you match with another player who ticked both boxes, it will default to a Random Civ game. Everyone's happy. Similar to the "Run it twice" tickbox in online poker.

    Cumans Are Great !

    Posted: 20 Jul 2020 07:10 AM PDT

I did not buy the game before new civs got their nerf I just bought it, it has just been a week. Anyway, I was a very noob player really. I couldnt defeat hard ai in Arabia as the Huns. That was my level. So I now I play as Cumans in multiplayer and just wow ! I dont get defeated, I literally dont get defeated.

I do the exact build order 'Art Of War' part of the game advises under 'fast castle' only with a twist. I follow that same exact build order until hitting the castle age but then I immediately build my second TC (Cuman Unique ability). After some more wood comes in(with that build order it comes very fast) I build market, stable and blacksmith then one stable more. I get bloodlines from stable and the first upgrade of the blacksmith: forging, if possible scale barding armor too. At this point my rival almost always send an early rush army(I dont know why everyone loves to do this) but the thing is, second TC isnt just a economy booster, it is also an early CASTLE ! I always build it between gold and forest so while around my first TC there are farmers, around my second TC I have my woodcutters and goldminers. I also always send a few villies to stone to spam castles, I send like a lot of villies to stones.

Anyway while my rival realises he can do nothing I get 2-3 steppe lancers and I literally wipe the floor. Even spearmen fail so hard against steppe lancer.

Rival always fails his early rush and by the time he comes I always be in the process of advancing anyway and as I advance I build my third TC near another woods and as lumberjacks get too much I order them to build mills and at this point I usually have like a lot of stones, enough to build 2-3 around his base. I also build 2 siege workshops. Get the upgrade for siege ram. I get light cav upgrade from stable too and more upgrades for both cav and cav archer from blacksmith. So while castles waste wood and gold on Kipchaks stables waste only food on light cav so they cohere each other. If gold gets too much I spam steppe lancer too. I get like 4 siege rams and I protect them like hell. Most players dont get murder holes neither so castles etc they all fall. I always be the one to first advance to imperial then I get two trebutchets per castle(4-5 castles at this point) and around 50-60 cav to defend it and rival usually resigns as he sees what is coming.

Moral of The Story: 2 TC's is just an incredible boost, very OP. A fast castlers dream. Dont think it like it is an obstacle on advancing ! It is just a feudal age castle and while advancing to castle age, being able to still spam villies is also incredible.

I never used siege workshops in feudal age though. If an early rush strategy with them can be developed, Cumans may be the most unpredictable civilization in the game. Being great at both early rush and fast castle.

Why are the vast majority of my ladder games in Brazil?

    Posted: 19 Jul 2020 09:20 PM PDT

Little confused because in ranked games, I'm Australian and even when playing against Europeans or SEA I always seem to be put on Brazil server, which is my worst server by far, withh ~350 ping at best, even when all 8 players are from Australia/New Zealand, but also when the other players are European.

I'm sure I can't be the only one having this issue, because the people I play with/against are playing from far away as well.

With about 75% of my ranked games played of 350 ping + inconsistent loss, I'm more used to playing with half a second delay than without it, but being used to it doesn't make luring the boar any more fun, let alone trying to micro against siege...

Where is my food (unlucky map generation)

2 boars and 2 sheeps missing.

Didnt scout further because scout stopped at the woodline at the top.

Then scouted all my little holes for the mighty boars just to find them way too late.

Obviously I lost because I couldnt adapt

    Does anyone want to play?

    Posted: 19 Jul 2020 08:42 AM PDT

Hi guys, I want to get back into aoe2. I don't have anyone to play with as none of my friends are interested in the game. Last time I played I was around 1100 ELO near release, I imagine the skill level has risen since then so probably like 900 ELO now.

I'm looking for chill players that are just playing for fun who are interested in co-op vs bots or 1v1s or in-house team games! Experience level does not matter to me!

Add me on discord Jin#0853 or message me on reddit if you want to to get some games going!

Edit: My time zome in EST in north america

Back in those days 2001 zone i see people doing fc knights a standard thing, or at least it is so i preceived.

I have i only been back to lower competitive games and saw peoeple doing archers a lot more than knights.

Is the observation correct or biased?

    Campaign to scenario question

    Posted: 19 Jul 2020 07:43 PM PDT

So recently I've been converting certain campaign files into scenario files so that in a campaign where you get an ally i could play with my friend as that ally.

However many, if not most of these campaign scenarios without enemy villagers are broken, due to the fact that in actual campaign enemies spawn units infinitely and have scores >30k while in scenarios suddenly all enemy factions only have like 7k score(mostly from existing buildings and units) and run out of resources in like 10 minutes and proceed to do absolutely nothing for the rest of the game.

Can anyone with experience with this provide some insight into while the same exact scenario file would yield different results, and how can I maybe fix this issue? It would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Definitive Edition Infosheet: Jineapple’s Work Updated

Definitive Edition Infosheet: Jineapple's Work Updated

Hey guys! For some time I was unsure whether HD/Voobly Infosheet created by Jineapple would be updated for Definitive Edition. It used to be my favorite source of information back in the day, so, seeing the author is quite busy these days and with a permission granted, I dared to step in, as thankfully, source formatting of the original Infosheet is openly available.

Note that Improved Extended Tooltip mod was already updated for DE by harooooo some time ago.

    ⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯

Infosheet as a whole is published as a Steam guide here. The Infosheet itself (PDF) is available for download/preview @ Google Drive or as an attachment to the AoEZone thread. Infosheet as a series of screenshots is available @ imgur. Several gameplay mechanics (hidden effects, some damage calculations, monk mechanics etc.) are described in 'Auxiliary Info' sections in a Steam version of the guide or in a Google Doc file. 'Raw' Google Doc version of DE Infosheet can be found in this folder.

Here is an example entry from the Infosheet (Unit Chart):

    https://preview.redd.it/tlqy6lu19vb51.png?width=2465&format=png&auto=webp&s=14c779b381366066e0e14de4669a21baf7a5cbe1

    ⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯

Primary source of info was game data files reached via Advanced Genie Editor. Quite a lot of testing in Scenario Editor was conducted as well – either to verify coded values or to (re-)investigate some gameplay mechanics.

Alongside with actualized DE information, I made a few design changes (listed in the Steam guide). In short, civ descriptions were modified, Legend for Unit Infosheet was updated with several new variables explained, and footnotes were added to Unit Infosheet to clarify some specific cases. . Gameplay mechanics section of the original Steam guide was also updated; unmodified lines borrowed from it are mentioned in "quotes" in 'Auxiliary Info' sections of DE Infosheet. Several useful articles/posts/videos were added as 'further reading' material in 'External Links' section of the Steam guide / Google Doc file.

In terms of styling, I doubt I could reach Jineapple's neat formatting. Some parts of PDF version can be pixilated badly (Tech chart, for instance, had to be resized to fit into A4 format – there are simply too many civs these days). And please, refrain from some strong language if you happen to be an editor and see a lot of empty spaces: I decided to separate the charts from each other at such a cost.

    ⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯

If you manage to spot any mistake in stats, spelling, formatting or some unclear wording – make sure to ask about or report it here on reddit, in the AoEZone thread or in a comment section of the Steam guide.

Thanks to the original Infosheet guide, this subreddit, AoEZone, AoE Wikia, and Spirit of the Law on YouTube for lots of info on gameplay mechanics and ideas for testing. <3

    Disconnect during a ranked game

    Posted: 19 Jul 2020 03:47 PM PDT

Once in awhile my internet randomly disconnects for a minute or so. During that time, it auto-resigns me, which is really annoying. To you guys agree that there should be away of re-entering a game in progress? There were games where my team and I are in a lead and we lose because of a quick disconnect.
