Brick wall for intermediate beginners Posted: 08 Mar 2020 05:00 AM PDT I think by now I've seen about every post directed towards beginners on this subreddit and watched a LOT of beginner's tutorials on Youtube. At this point I can say that there seems to be a huge gap in content explaining the very basics on the one hand, and tutorials on more intermediate-advanced topics on the other. Lots of people explain the fundamental mechanics of the game, basic beginner mistakes, simple build orders, how to have a super efficient Feudal Age, how to patrol, how to use hotkeys etc. And that's where I get stuck. People will tell new players to just watch a ton of pro games, but pros at that level often don't go over the things that new players still need to learn. It's nice practicing the basic build orders with that mod but where do you go from there? Example: common advice for beginners is to go Archers or Scouts into Knights. So you do the build order, get your economy rolling, roll out some archers and harass your enemy for a bit. What comes next? When do you stop making archers? When do you switch units? How do you go on to win the game? Stuff like that doens't seem to be covered as well. At this point I keep hearing 'just wing it' or 'adapt', but I don't have enough information to start improvising with. So I'm reaching out here for any existing tips or guides or tutorials that I might have missed, or maybe you guys think there's another way of going about this? Also, I haven't found anything concise on how to actually win the game. Looks like there's multiple ways depending on the gamemode, but most recorded games end with the opposing player resigning. Path finding is still a problem Posted: 08 Mar 2020 04:06 AM PDT Military units refuse to attack the target you tell them to attack. For example if you tell them to attack a low hp villager but there is another villager in front of them instead killing the low hp villager they attack the one in front letting the low hp vill get away or telling a group of cav to snipe some siege but they just start targeting the pikemen in front of the siege. This is so irritating because if you wanted your army to attack whats in front of them there is already a patrol and attack-move command [link] [comments]

Now that Mongols get steppe lancers could Persians and Indians get battle elephants?! Posted: 08 Mar 2020 09:23 AM PDT It always seemed strange that the new Southeast Asian civs got battle elephants but the Indians didn't. Now that a precedent has been set by giving Mongols steppe lancers, could the Indians and Persians get battle elephants? [link] [comments]

We need a Tech Tree view in the Ranked Queue Posted: 07 Mar 2020 02:33 PM PST So I can stay teamed with my friend while we talk about what civ to use, instead of going back to single player all the time and having to invite him again to my team. [link] [comments]
Don't know if i should play online Posted: 08 Mar 2020 06:18 AM PDT So i've been playing aoe2 for a long time and i think im quite alright at it but for some reason im kinda scared of trying online. watch T90 a lot and i think im better than all the low elo players he makes videos on. can someone give me tips on how to start playing online frequently [link] [comments]

Posted: 08 Mar 2020 07:08 AM PDT Hi all, Im an old AoC player and recently coming back into the scene with the Hidden Cup around the corner. Started playing in 1999, then started online in 2008 iirc on Voobly, and then was member of the old AoCZone staff. Im from the time where Kkab was training Daut, when Fulgore started the FC+HC strategy meta, when Dreams was one of the first players to stream AoE on twitch. So I have a few questions and would be great if someone can take some time to answer these: How is DE doing? How is the "e-sport" scene on AoE? Who are the best players right now? Is Huns still the best 1v1 civ? Is Voobly still running good? Thanks! [link] [comments]

Someone changed the gamespeed in mutliplayer. Posted: 08 Mar 2020 06:53 AM PDT So someone changed the gamespeed in a mutliplayer game to fast at the beginning of the game while cheats where disabled. Is this bug or how is this possible? [link] [comments]

Mod to disable clicking icons in the bottom left corner, to force hotkeys? Posted: 08 Mar 2020 08:20 AM PDT Since I've been playing the game on and off since about 2000, I never got in the habit of using hotkeys for everything. With DE all the icons in the bottom-left corner have hotkeys, and the layout is much easier than in the past. However due to not having them in the past I automatically find myself clicking them when I'm concentrating on other things than remembering to use the hotkeys. Would be nice to just disable clicking there altogether, to force train me to use hotkeys. Is a mod like this possible? [link] [comments]
Posted: 08 Mar 2020 01:03 AM PST There used to be a custom scenario called Castle blood automatic in original aoe2. Is something similar there in definitive edition. [link] [comments]
