For all the noobs in this game ELO is just a number, play ranked, have fun. Posted: 12 Apr 2020 11:50 AM PDT Elo is nothing more than a parameter that indicates your skill level, so you can be matched with other people with the same skill level. Elo is not a goal to be persuited, is a consequence of your skill so just have fun and play ranked. Trust me when i say that playing ranked with people the same level as you is more fun than playing lobby games with randoms Say no to MP anxiety and play games.Thank me later [link] [comments]

Suggestion for a slight Burmese rework Posted: 13 Apr 2020 03:53 AM PDT Burmese reworkedThe Burmese are a Monk and Cavalry civilization. They have perhaps the weakest archery range in the game as they lack both the second and third archer armour upgrades (they are the only civ to lack both techs). I propose buffing the Arambai, adding a bonus, and buffing the Imp UT.
CA UT: Howdah (Battle Elephants +1/+1 armor; 400f,300w; 40 seconds) [unchanged] Imp UT: Manipur Cavalry (Cavalry and Arambai +4 attack against buildings and standard buildings; 700f,400g; 60 seconds) Unique unit: Arambai
It costs roughly as much to fully upgrade the Arambai as before, but now it has +1/1 (while the archery range remains characteristically weak), a slight bonus vs the spearmen-line, and slightly improved elite training time. Regarding the "Relics are visible on the map at game start" bonus: This is now a civ bonus (in the same fashion as the Vietnamese, who get their (somewhat similar) vision bonus as a civ bonus). Otherwise the bonus is unchanged. Regarding the "Monasteries can garrison nearby Relics (without a Monk)" bonus: This basically means that a Monastery can right click on a nearby relic (within 4 range) and garrison it. This is good in a number of scenarios:
Regarding the Imp UT (Manipur Cavalry): Manipur Cavalry currently grants Cavalry and Arambai +3 attack against buildings and standard buildings. This means that if the enemy researches Masonry (a cheap Castle Age tech available to almost 32/35 civs) which gives +3 building armour, the effect of Manipur Cavalry is effectively halved (from +6 damage to +3). Compare this to the Mayans CA UT (Obsidian Arrows):
I propose increasing the Manipur Cavalry damage by 1 (vs buildings and standard buildings), this would:
This would mean that 1 cheap Castle Age tech (Masonry) wouldn't reduce the effect of Manipur Cavalry by half, and the tech would become more impactful (as one would expect from an Imperial Age tech). Also I would increase the food cost slightly (from 650 to 700). [link] [comments]
Where can I find updated schedule for AOE2 tournaments/showmatches etc.? Posted: 13 Apr 2020 05:56 AM PDT Someone from a certain website about eSports is looking to add AOE2 to their list of games, and they're looking for someone/a place that have constantly updated schedule for AOE2 tournaments/showmatches. Can you recommend me one? [link] [comments]
Posted: 13 Apr 2020 02:40 AM PDT Sorry if it's a known bug, but I started playing DE recently and noticed that the DE AI will randomly resign 5-10 minutes into the game. It happens quite a lot, at least half the games i start. Is there any known fixes or updates coming? [link] [comments]
Any idea how to make x256 tech mods not crash your game? Posted: 13 Apr 2020 04:10 AM PDT As title says. I have a 2000 dollar gaming computer, and I doubt it's a hardware issue (but im willing to listen to any advice) However, with the various x256 tech mods out there all of them makes the game crash so often its unplayable. However, these mods exist and people seem to enjoy them, so there has to be people who dont get crashes. With how much they make me crash instantly they should just be called "instant crash mod". How arent other people constantly complaining that these mods simply do not work? I would honestly love to hear the secret. By the way, I am mostly not getting instant crashes. Its crashing randomly when I either click the techs to upgrade, sometimes crashes when I click to cancel a tech upgrade in queue, and sometimes it crashes during play. The game crash number increases more and more the longer the game goes. The game also stutters more and more the longer the game proceeds. I can get a good 5 mins in sometimes. But after saving at that point, even after a crash I can usually get no more than 30 seconds before it crashes again. Then it just crashes faster and faster the more I try to redo it. Am willing to hear out any advice. [link] [comments]
Frustrating transition to 1800 ELO Posted: 13 Apr 2020 04:04 AM PDT I really enjoy Aoe2 HD been playing seriously for about a year and a half now (playing as a kid does not count lol). But lately I've just been getting frustrated with my lack of progress. A month ago I reached my peak ELO of 1880 and I was doing great for a while win rate at least 50%. It felt really good because I was stuck at 1700's for around 6-8 months and I was finally out of the rut. But I was only ever doing flush into 2 TC forward with siege, scouts and archer variants which is a really good strat that I can beat anyone under 2k. Even when they knew it is coming because I had it so well practices and had like 5 variants to deal with all unit comps. Like the pro HOANG does one build every time. However I never knew what to do without archers so so my elo didn't climb further. Because I only got a good archer civ 50% of the time. So I experimented and got A LOT better with scouts, man at arms and towers and all other units. So I am a much better rounded player and have a better repertoire of strategies. HOWEVER this came at the cost of my well practiced build order and effected my ability to win games against harder opponents. So I've literally gone from playing 1800's for free ELO donations with my old strat to struggling to get back up to 1800's with better game knowledge. Is this just a part of the learning curve or do you actually get a little worse with a lot of new game knowledge until you practice it more and more. Like I'm an intermediate player with very good micro and I know my build orders it is just learning how to be effective with my armies again. It's like I focus on one thing and lose practice in another and I find this happens a lot with this game. Does anyone else feel this way? [link] [comments]
Posted: 12 Apr 2020 10:38 AM PDT I really appreciate the developers listning to us. The game is so much more fun with the new map pool than it used to be. ALL HAIL KING OF THE DEVELOPERS! [link] [comments]
How do I get people to play my rms map? Posted: 12 Apr 2020 10:18 PM PDT Quite some time ago I posted on here asking how maps for tournaments like HC3 were made, after which you lovely people told me about random map scripts. I finally have created a map that I'm currently calling Basin (working title) and I'm happy with it. But now I want people to play it, is there a place I can post rms scripts for people to try? Or do I just have to keep sitting in the lobby browser with "come try my map" and pray someone actually joins? Thanks :) [link] [comments]
Making Outposts useful in early to midgame (+new features) Posted: 12 Apr 2020 09:18 AM PDT Outposts are rarely ever built from Dark age to late Castle age, despite being available from the start of the game. In Imp, sometimes they are used for lategame scouting, but apart from that, they are not seeing much action. So why is that exactly? Lets look at what they do: they provide Line of Sight (LoS) for relatively cheap (25 wood, 5 stone). Theoretically great for gaining map intelligence and enforce map control if you have an army, preventing raids or forwards.
Outposts base LoS increase by 2 every time you age up,6 in Dark, 8 in Feudal, 10 in Castle and 12 in Imp. I think there are 2 problems here. Their starting LoS in Dark age is too small. 6 tiles is barely worth anything, so its no wonder people dont use it, in an age when spending 25 wood is fairly big deal. In later ages, when Town Watch and Town Patrol rolls in, other (more sturdy) buildings give decent LoS, so theres not much need for the Outposts. Ill throw in two ideas to make them more useful 1) LoS: 9 in Dark age, 10 in Feudal, 11 in Castle, 12 in Imperial. The maximum base 12 LoS didnt change, but it is starting for 9 to give more benefits during early ages 2) New Castle age tech: Sentinels (cost: 150 food, 75 stone [placehonder numbers]) effect: Outposts and Towers now make an audible sound when an enemy unit enters their LoS, and mark the Outpost on the map which spotted the enemy. The sound effect could be like the old AoE1 tower sound, or anything else, really. You could enable or disable the warning sound at specific outposts and towers, similar to the auto farm seed toggles. I think thats one feature Outposts and Towers should have, warn you, if they spot the enemy. What do you think? Is it a reasonable change? [link] [comments]
Just brought AoE2DE any must have mods? Posted: 13 Apr 2020 12:09 AM PDT I played the HD edition about 2 years ago. My friends are getting into this because of lockdown. I remember using the grid tiles and small tree mod which was super helpful. What should we use now? [link] [comments]

Posted: 13 Apr 2020 05:59 AM PDT Readiness.Experience/Attrition.Losses First off I'm sorry for the low effort title, it's all I got atm. Also, I'm not making these suggestions to replace the original game style that I've enjoyed since the original's MSN online game zone days. These ideas are merely for a mode geared to players who want a more drawn out game with decisive and hopefully less chaotic and cluttered feeling late game play. This is mainly centered around the four characteristics I mentioned in the corny acronym. READINESS factors in by being the motivation to keep your civilization protected, villagers on task supporting it and not rushing to build armies to attack. Every non-villager unit should require upkeep and when this upkeep is insufficient all units requiring the lacking resource suffer EXPERIENCE or ATTRITION (hp/attack/defense) LOSS depending on the percentage & type of resource lost. In this mode of game play a Civilization can earn upgrades through Combat EXPERIENCE or research. Combat experience would be a new resource (XP) awarded as the civ kills/destroys/converts. The XP can then be used to purchased instant upgrades. Upgrades or XP(training) could also be researched the standard way at Blacksmiths/Universities/etc. However, that would take time to and be a resources cost that would threaten any attempt at an early rush by causing ATTRITION to an Empire that isn't ready with a proper infrastructure and minions err.. villagers to support it. Hopefully the idea didn't come off as dumb and boring. I tried to keep the explanation as simple as possible because I don't think the concept is very difficult. However, I do acknowledge some of the ideas like experience(XP) may be impossible to mod correctly into the game as is (maybe replace stone with XP and convert gold to minerals?) Alas, it's still my hope/fantasy to see a future remake of Age of Empires II like this. What would you add and why? Thanks, [link] [comments]

Any way to recover a scenario editor map? Posted: 13 Apr 2020 05:35 AM PDT Hi all, was making a map on the scenario editor on Giant size. Took me a few hours before I noticed the small map in the bottom right was no longer updating with anything I added to the map. Saved then reloaded and it just crashes mid-load to the desktop with no warning at all. Really bummed out and would appreciate any tips since I spent many hours on it, since I was recreating Europe on it. Side note I have all expansions (Steam) but not Definitive Edition.
