Is a second townhouse worth the wood/card?

    Posted: 14 Apr 2020 01:04 AM PDT

So I was wondering if a second townhouse is worth the amount of wood (which I could use for other stuff instead) or worth the card (I could use other cards instead.

    Shipments 101 by incog

    Posted: 13 Apr 2020 02:56 PM PDT

Hi my name is incog. anyway

I put together a youtube video that is aimed at newer players, this time the idea is to go over the shipment mechanic in the game as well as talk about which shipments are good to send and when.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mvnd9b0GB08

I am a player with a relative amount of experience in the game and have recently taken interest in sharing my knowledge as much as possible with newer and/or lower level players. Please let me know if you have any supplemental questions in this thread, or feedback. I'm more interested in getting a discussion going than just sharing my own work on my end, if possible.

Old player returning - steep re-learning curve?

    Posted: 13 Apr 2020 11:18 PM PDT

I used to play AoE3 online when I was in my teens in like 2006-2008. Back then, I was pr 40+. Now I'm in my late 20s and tried the game online again.

After reading some recent strategies and build orders, I feel that many aspects of my gameplay are okay: I have decent strategies, good macro, decent decision making. I have no idle vills, can defend aggression, know the match ups. This way, I fairly easily managed to get to ~pr 25 again. I could fairly easily defeat veryone below that level just by superior strat/execution/knowledge of the matchup.

However, at this point I met a very steep wall. Most players pr 26+ seem to be much better than me. I am particularly lacking in 2 things: 1. Unit control in fights and 2. overall control once the game reaches a certain point. Eventually, there's just too much stuff going on and I can't keep up anymore.

So until a big fight or like minute 20, I tend to be in a good or even winning position. Then I throw the fight and lose the game. Or win the fight, but can't keep up and get overwhelmed afterwards.

Does anyone else have this problem? I have already played around 100 games online, but I feel it doesn't get much better. Back in the day, I was younger and played many games every day. Now I can often only play like 1-2 games a day at most. Am I just too old now? Am I playing too little?

It's frustrating that I can't seem to improve anymore...

    7/8/9 villagers on the mill

    Posted: 14 Apr 2020 01:55 AM PDT

Is it really true that 10 villagers on the mill are interfering each other? If so - what is the well-rounded amount of vills on the mill?

Ecoboom with Dutch - how to?

    Posted: 14 Apr 2020 01:50 AM PDT

How do I get the fastest and best eco with Dutch? I usually build my first bank when in the second age - extending to 8 in total with two fabrics on gold. The rest of the villagers are on Mills (4 mills with 8 villagers each) and wood.

Either the most brilliant strategy or he’s cheating

    Posted: 13 Apr 2020 07:09 PM PDT

So I played this french player in a 3v3 (I'm Brit) he sent three vills to steal my age up food fine, I've seen that before. About 8 min into the game he has about 20+ vills bouncing between our home basses killing our vills and building towers to jump in.

We have Stelets, musks and Uhls trying kill him but he keeps kiting us. This allows his teammates to build fbs right next us... soon it was game over. We got crushed.

I looked at the stats and nothing crazy jumped out. I just don't get how he got that much food and trained vills as France so quickly.

Hi all, I am playing NE as the Italians and am unable to recruit units from the Basilica. Should I be able to and if not then how do I get Nunicos?

How can I disable the scroll mouse to zoom in/out?

    Posted: 13 Apr 2020 04:35 PM PDT

I'm using an Apple Magic Mouse to play. It's awesome but it's constantly zooming in and out on my units mid game, which can make things difficult of course. I was wondering if there was any way I can turn that off? Meaning when I scroll on my mouse in game it would not zoom in on my units.

    Thanks!

"You have Lost Network Connectivity" error through LAN & GameRanger

    Posted: 13 Apr 2020 10:35 AM PDT

    Hi everyone,

I recently reinstalled AoE3 on my Mac (running Mojave) in order to play with friends (who are also running Macs).

However, i am getting a curious error whenever i try to play through LAN or GameRanger, and i can't even get through to create a game in LAN mode.

Whenever i try to go into multiplayer the error i get is "You Have Lost Network Connectivity. Please check your internet connection and restart the game".

I have tried multiple things such as:

    1. Setting a static IPv4 IP on my router and on my Mac
    2. Turning off IPv6 on my Mac
    3. Setting up DMZ on my IP
    4. Reinstalling the game
    5. Trying to set an override address by creating a user.cfg file in the Startup folder

I haven't found much on the internet about this issue. Would anyone have an idea what could cause this?

(And no, Bootcamp is not an option :) )
