[DE] How to make a mod to change unit outlines / outline colors?

[DE] How to make a mod to change unit outlines / outline colors?

My friend couldn't find his boar on Arena and concluded to "never play this shit game ever again" or something and that it's worse than Voobly in every way. Literally unplayable.

Quite the overreaction if you ask me but I do enjoy playing 2v2s with the guy so I'd like to make him a mod that makes the outlines of units and animals behind walls/buildings more obivious.

    I no pig?

Does anyone know how to go about that? Is there any documentation for modding?

I only made UI mods before and there it was straightforward editing of a .json file but I don't know where to start with this.

PS: Pig is behind the 5th tile of the south-western stone wall counting from the south.

Disconnecting after 4-5mins every single game AOE2DE

    Posted: 05 Apr 2020 06:19 AM PDT

Hey everyone, I've Google'd about this and it seems it's a fairly common problem.

Any ideas on how to fix it? I have a wired connection, play other games and I have never had any problems, it's just AOE2:DE.

    Thanks!

    Struggling to improve

    Posted: 04 Apr 2020 09:52 PM PDT

I'm at 12-27 1052 elo on team ranked games. I've lost maybe about 10 games in a row now. I'm always looking at my replays but can't seem to get any useful information from it. Me and the enemy who defeated me are usually close in vils. They almost never follow any build that I've seen (10 vils on berries before feudal?????). If they build horsies they wreck my eco. If I build horsies I slightly inconvenience them. Their army is always out faster while maintaining a better eco. I know I need to improve my speed but I can't tell how I'm -that- much slower. At least I can't tell from watching the replays.

Pt. 2 to my Viking Conundrum.

    Posted: 04 Apr 2020 10:13 PM PDT

So, we did a larger game tonight. A 3v3, with pretty balanced teams. (Two of us did most of the work, but still needed the third guy to win)

I played as the My Rival and I were on opposite teams, both being the Vikings. But I turned his strategy on his head, and built mass Archer and Sword line. My dad (who was on my team) handled any skirmisher's my Rivals ally's made with Cataphracts and Camels. Overall, My archers held the line against my rivals early siege, and ultimately I think it won us the game. Thanks to all of you who helped me get over this hurdle, and I'm glad that there's a place that a Casual player can get answers from people who know better.

Thanks to the peeps who helped me win this game an hour ago!

Are civ-specific infinite resource abilities good or bad for the game?

    Posted: 05 Apr 2020 07:20 AM PDT

By "civ-specific infinite resource abilities" I mean civ bonuses that allow certain civs to gain an infinite supply of resources, which aren't available to other civs (like Relics and Trade are). Examples would be Malay infinite fish traps and the Portuguese Feitoria. Are they good or bad design decisions, and should they be changed? To clarify, I'm by no means suggesting any of these civs are OP, simply that they have access to a strat that many seem to find lame and frustrating to play against. Portuguese, for instance, are often frowned upon in large Diplo, FFA or even Team games, and if allowed are typically ganged up on early so they can't even begin to set themselves up for late game (which then makes the Portuguese player themselves upset instead). Regarding Malay, well, here's the Viper abusing their unique ability -https://youtu.be/zDDeBS1E9C4 So obviously if these civs lose these abilities, they have to get some other bonuses to compensate - that's fine. Might even make them stronger, and certainly more interesting to play against. But my question is whether keeping such abilities is a good idea to begin with? Are they fine for AoE, or should they be on the chopping block?

    general army comp

    Posted: 05 Apr 2020 02:39 AM PDT

    Hi !

i play a lot with friends and im looking to improve, im lost on unit choices, always we all hit imperial (2v2) they mass trash army ( they dont use too much gold they just make SO and trebuchets) , they lately are copying my main composition for every civ! lot of champions ( to counter trash )+ trash. it works until now because they didnt do anything but trash . This is my main problem because i know infantry suck ( no for goths f.e.) in aoe2 and i want to go pala and archers, its a lot of gold + some champions for trash ( 1. is this fine? ).

apart of this im working on how to mind the best army comp following the " choose 1 gold unit and mix it with siege and trash to counter his counter" ( 2. is this rule good? better than the knight line + archer line comp? ):

step 1 recognice if my civ is a pala civ, archer civ, infantry civ ( with good pala or archers) this will be the gold unit

step 2 mix it with trash ( so if it is pala there is e. skirms and not archers for the halberdiers)

step 3 add some siege and champions if trash is huge or is a infantry civ ( + UU if its really good)

what method will have more success? i cant complement each other weakness with my ally ( he is bad at this moment, cant rely on him)

MiniMap with colors that reflect only gameplay stuff and nothing visual.

    Posted: 04 Apr 2020 10:13 PM PDT

I am looking for a mod, or a way to create a mod, that changes the minimap colors to only show resources and player stuff, and 1 color for all the terrain be it green, desert, sand so that it becomes easy to spot all the important stuff on the minimap, and nothing else.

Mongols v. Mayans Post Imp Help

    Posted: 04 Apr 2020 09:26 PM PDT

I recently played a very tough game as Mongols against Mayans on golden swamp. I got drushed and was playing from behind for a very large portion of the game. My opponent originally teched into plume which I countered with a defensive castle, knights and skirms. After holding and stabilizing I was able to push into his economy and raid a bit as I was going Imp (he was already imp and this greatly delayed his push) I then was able to fully tech into mangudai and was switching my focus to the middle to take the gold. I was able to take the middle and hold it for only a bit because by that time my opponent tech switched into eagles. Now I wasn't able to handle them and eventually lost the game. I am not exactly sure how I could have played better (I will watch the replay later) however, my biggest issue is in this kind of matchup is it an auto loss? Can Mongols not deal with post imp eagles? What counters post imp eagles in general from any civ?

Update: I went and sped through my replay and found a couple of tactical errors that if I had not made I could have probably won.

    1. I did have a military advantage just after taking the middle then lost if after getting stuck in a corner.
    2. I myself got raided and A should have put up some stone walls to protect my base and B after the raid ended immediately rebuild lost TC and farms etc.
    3. Continue pushing into his base where I already created weakness and had forward castles, workshops etc instead of going to the side where I didnt have any of that.

After playing with HD for a while now, finally made the jump to DE.

    Posted: 04 Apr 2020 05:06 PM PDT

Saw Xbox Game Studios games were on sale so I went and got the game - though I might have gotten it earlier had I remembered I got a discount for owning HD.

One thing I'm surprised: the performance is better than I expected based on my midrange laptop from 2017. It's somehow smoother than HD in some ways for me.

The new content's pretty nice as well - tried out a game as Khmer and I like their farming bonus, though unlike my old standbys like Huns/Franks/Mayans I haven't figured out a good army composition for them yet!
