    The main event of Battle of Africa 2 is finally here! It's time to experience some quality Age of Empires 2 as we watch the eight best teams fight it out in the next couple of weekends. We have a lot of great content in store for all of you, and we hope you're all as excited as we are.

    We're going to see Team Secret, Aftermath, YinYang, Vietnam Legends, Suomi, Heresy AoE and last but not least, our two champions that managed to create upsets in the qualification stage, Rulers of Rome and PetGunPet.

    As always you will be able to see the brackets in our public bracket sheet, but here's a fancier poster if you're into those.

    Please note that we have changed the upcoming weekend so that round one and two will take place on the 23rd and 24th respectively. This will hopefully allow everyone to tune in at watch the several hours of quality Age of Empires 2.

    As I don't regularly play the game, it only recently came to my attention that the mod had been implemented into the game as a cheat code. My first thought of course was "cool", but then it reminded me of some of the headaches I had with all the bugs caused by the mod. I haven't looked at the implementation from the developers, but according to my friend the new cheat code already caused a lot of bugs in normal multiplayer games, such as technologies being researchable more than once.

    This doesn't suprise me at all, as making it a cheat code means it is loaded in the same Data Mod as the base game, which is a really bad thing. If the developers haven't inherently changed how technologies are being loaded within the Genie Engine, the mod's implementation will cause weird anomalies now, but also in the future when making changes to the game. Tracking these bugs down can take a lot of time, due to the mod making the technology section very polluted among other annoyances.

    I really recommend the developers to revert adding the cheat code and offer the mod as a loadable Data Pack, just like they did with the Small Trees. If they don't, the mod will probably be the cause of many more bugs in the future and possibly slow down development, but also open up the game to more cheating and exploits.

    question about 1st Bulgarian campaign

    hi reddit, recently I played through the 1st campaign mission for the Bulgarians. And whilst I was playing through I decided to attack green with a couple trebs with a forest in between us. (south of the map) The objective of course is to kill the 3 Kings (yellow) but to my surprise after killing a greens hero with my trebs, I won. (bit messy but I hope u got the point). Probably someone has already discovered this so maybe it isn't anything new, but I'm just wondering was this done on purpose and have I just wasted 5 mins typing this stuff up, or whether it's an accident or something.

    again bit messy (English isn't my first language) but I hope u guys understand!! :)

    As a noob player I am trying to figure out if I should be able to beat the extreme AI before playing online? Right now I still have close games with the moderate difficulty AI. It would be interesting to know at what elo can players beat the harder difficulties.

    Should sheep distance be standardized?

    I'm not sure if it's the patch or if I've just been very unlucky but lately I've been noticing that sheep are sometimes extremely far away from the tc or in very unexpected locations. My last 2 games on Oasis I didn't find my sheep until after my 2nd boar. And even on Arabia I've had games where I couldn't find them (admittedly I was also being lamed in one of those games). So I'm curious what the community thinks about this. Would the game be better if this never happend or is adapting to this kind of thing a skill that should be tested?

    How should I be dealing with raiding?

    "It depends", I know, I know.

    But generally, what I find myself doing is just trying to salvage whatever vills I can if knights/scouts get through my walls and I just queue up a handful of spears to go to key spots in my base while trying to lead him under TC fire. Is this the best way?

    Should I pull back some army or is it more effective to hit his base hard while he's split and make him come to me?

    I just keep getting that moment lategame when I'm getting raided everywhere but I end up ignoring it in order to try doing damage with my army, then I tend to lose due to worse eco.

    Aoe 2 DE annoying bug - cannot create two lobbies in a row

    I have a problem where I finish a game and if I exit I cannot make or join another game, I get an error message. The only way to fix it is to exit out of aoe 2 DE and restart.

    Anybody else have this problem?

    First time playing online multiplayer - Help

    So I have played AOE2 HD for 5 to 6 years. But I have played it only offline and that too regicide. I was able to defeat Hard difficulty easily and Hardest too.

    Online multiplayer is generally played in random maps. I have a general idea of the build order and stuff but not experienced in it. My question now is will I be able to win any games at all in multiplayer?

    What elo would I be in?

    I keep getting demolished every game, and i don't know what to do anymore.

    I'm currently elo 731. I started well, wining 2 of my first 3 matches, but it all went downhill afterwards.

    Now i lose almost all matches. I must have lost like 19 of my last 20 matches. One loss after another.

    Whatever strat i go for, i fail and get destroyed.

    I pick strong land civs in land maps (huns, franks), i play to their strengths, i go for strong economy and balanced armies, i bought DE to be able to be more zoomed out, i learned the hotkeys, i even got the small trees mod if that counts for anything lol. I even start out with a strong dark age, and my score is always 100 points over the enemy in the early game, but then i get rushed, i lose momentum, and i get destroyed.

    I don't know if i'm doing things wrong, or if i just have terrible luck.

    How to reliably get units to engage

    I've lost some frustrating games recently where my units seem to run around in random directions rather than actually attack the enemy. By the time they engage, I've lost most of my troops.

    What's the best way to ensure that they attack efficiently?

    I'm around 1k ELO and have been playing for a month or so. I've been stuck here for a while, so I'm trying to iron out the major issues in my game (there are many.)

    Hi guys,

    I purchased today AoE2DE on steam. Following this post, I was trying to configure everything to be able to run it. If I launch the game, nothing happens. It shows on my steam account as 'running' but I don't see anything.

    Trying to figure out what went wrong, I figured I should install vulkan-utils package. Note that I do not know what the reason is. I am trying to see if everything is in order. So there maybe other reason than this.

    Keeping this is mind, going 'vulkaninfo' in my terminal, I get


    VULKAN INFO


    VULKAN Instance Version: 1.1.70

    Cannot create Vulkan instance. /build/vulkan-UL09PJ/vulkan-1.1.70+dfsg1/demos/vulkaninfo.c:768: failed with VK_ERROR_INCOMPATIBLE_DRIVER

    Assuming Vulkan is the issue, how can I sort it out?

    It says in the post I linked that I need driver version 430 or newer. But looking under the 'Additional Drivers' tab under my 'Softwares & Updates' in Ubuntu 18.04, I only get options between nvidia-driver-390 (proprietary, tested), nvidia-340 (proprietary) and nouveau driver from x.org.

    Does it mean I cannot run the game? Any help would be appreciated. Was looking forward to playing this amazing game. Feels a bit sad.

    Do you want a forced timeout of 1 hour if you quit in the first 15 minutes of the teamgame?

    So many people just instant quit when they are behind in points after 5 to 10 minutes and it doesnt matter if it is free to play or matchmaking. And i am sick of it
