Unpopular opinion: Turks are the best cav civ for 2v2s and 3v3s.

    Posted: 06 May 2022 10:54 AM PDT

Turks aren't usually seen as a cav civ, instead being played for their late gunpowder or beefy cav archers, or even not being played at all.

But turk scouts getting +1p armor is huge for team games. Team game meta has always been archers+cav, but recently it has been much more archer focused, and having a big ball of archers wins a team most fights. Turk scouts take 2 damage from archers with fletching, and this gets further reduced to 1 damage when they research feudal armor. This lets you take any fight vs the enemy, as you can take 100% or even 200% more arrows than your opponent can, which lets you clear up the enemy archer mass.

And you can keep adding in scouts as you go up to castle age, and you get the free light cav upgrade upon hitting CA, allowing you to further snowball your advantage. Turks get cavalier with full upgrades, and they get free hussar upgrade so they don't have to take time to tech switch when they start to run out of gold, and can use that last tile of gold to get their trade up and running.

Now obviously since they don't get paladin, they underperform in post imp, but 90% of games don't get to that point anyway, and using the turks timing advantage means that you can stop your opponents before they get to post imp with big ecos to support teching paladin and making a large number of them

Was the Khmer Battle Elephant nerf necessary?

    Posted: 06 May 2022 08:19 AM PDT

1.5 years ago, Khmer Battle Elephants saw their speed bonus reduced from 15% to 10%. With this, they lost the ability to pursue the unit like they counter: Archers. They also lost any sense of a real purpose with this. There's nothing they can engage, despite their immense cost, and killing them is an easy task. Allegedly, this is because they became too powerful in team games, but I disagree with this claim, and this change.

Ineffective house placement of our pro players?

    Posted: 06 May 2022 01:15 AM PDT

I've been watching many hours of pro-player games but there is always one thing i can't understand: their house placement.

Their whole game has a massive focus on eco efficiency. Let's take T90's low elo casts. We all laugh about "bad" lumber camps because they are one tile too far away from the woodline. We laugh about the low elo mining camps, the straggler trees, the farm placement. Pros almost never make any "mistake" in this regard, they squeeze out the last percentages of efficiency.

But when it comes to house placement, the pros go crazy. Houses are placed randomly with gaps between them, which means a lot of unnecessary walking time. So your worker is way less efficient and slower built houses means you get more likely housed.

I know that the efficiency of one worker in the late game does not really matter that much. But it often starts already in castle age and if i am aiming for perfection, i still need to place perfect houses. Also: i doubt that "correct" house placement takes really more time to focus than randomly placed houses. Especially because our pros can build perfect farms until late imp too.

So, what do i want to point out? Don'really know :D

Maybe i wonder why pro players dont consider the house placement as a thing to improve on and maybe, that the pros should actually not laught about the perfectly build houses from our low elo players.
