    Garrison Berserks in Longboats

    Posted: 14 May 2020 05:47 AM PDT

Something that always bugged me since I got into this game as a kid was the vikings inability to use their longboats to transport their UU the Berserk.

I would have thought this would work well with the Berserks ability to regenerate HP and allow the berserk to become the raiding unit it was clearly designed as. Not to mention the historical accuracy standpoint.

How difficult would this be to implement? What effect would this have on the game at a casual and/or professional level?

    Discuss.

Not all players ELOs show up on statsistics screen?

Not all players ELOs show up on statsistics screen?

Anyone know how to fix this? Only about 20-30% of player's ELOs show up on my post-game stat screen :(

It's nice to know who you've played against!

Scientists have yielded evidence that medival longbow arrows created similar wounds to modern-day gunshot wounds and were capable of penetrating through long bones. Arrows may have been deliberately “fletched” to spin clockwise as they hit their victims.

Khmer ultra fast castle build discussion for 1v1 closed maps - Knights or Elephants

    Posted: 14 May 2020 05:09 AM PDT

I've had a lot of success lately with Khmer ultra fast castle on closed maps. 23 or 24 feudal into immediate castle and instantly drop additional 2 TC's in castle. With this strategy and reasonable execution you can reliably have all 3 TC's pumping (courtesy of Khmer farms) by the 14min mark.

From there I usually go 4 stable with rams. When they build a castle I got imp for seige ram. When they eventually flick to halbs switch to scorp. Usual Khmer stuff.

Usually I got Knight/cavalier with my stables. Eventually I run out of gold and need it for siege so i start mixing in hussars. Food is never really a problem.

Does anyone think that elephants would be a superior composition to Knight/cavalier? More over, what situations would elephant be superior to knight/cavalier?

AoE2 DE Standard Victory Condition in ranked, yay or nay?

    Posted: 14 May 2020 02:10 AM PDT

So for a long time, the standard settings for aoe2 games for tournament play has been conquest. I think it could really benefit to change the ranked victory conditions to standard - or an alternative below.

Arguments for keeping the way it is:

    1. There is a portion of people - especially pros that are used to the meta being conquest only. This would be changing from tradition and that's not really popular. This could potentially lead to less people playing ranked (or switching back/staying with voobly).
    2. If Wonders or Relics are too easy to go for, this could cause some more passive games where players attempt to "out boom" each other instead of attacking one another, leading to a boring game to spectate.

    Arguments for changing it:

    1. It could result in a wider variety of civs being picked and maybe even build orders
    2. Monks may be more popular outside of elephant/knight counters
    3. It can end a stalemate (In maps like megarandom, sometimes there's just tooo many resources to blow through).
    4. Atheism isn't worthless anymore.

I feel like the devs could nerf or buff wonders to make them take longer to build, be weaker, more expensive or take longer to achieve victory if they want wonder/relic building to be more or less viable in ranked, giving devs an easy way to tweak the meta to suite spectating. I'd like to see wonders be an alternative to that meatgrinder play that you see late game when there's too many resources (like can happen easily on maps like megarandom).

Alternatively, why not make standard victory a ban-able feature? Like it can take one of your map bans to say no to either conquest or standard. I want to know how popular this is - 1 or 2 if you would be up for standard victory conditions in some ranked games.

People REALLY don't like being tower rushed

    Posted: 13 May 2020 05:09 PM PDT

When I get completely whooped by a strategy I like to try it myself to see how it works. Since I started doing this I have learned how to handle most typical rushes; scouts, man-at-arms, archers, etc which has really helped improve my game. The one that I hadn't managed to get on top of was a tower rush.

I am 6 games into learning the inca tower rush with blacksmith upgraded vils. My opponents haven't been happy. Two knew how to handle it and won the game (these were the most useful games for me). Two resigned as soon as the first tower went up without even trying to do anything about it making a few salty comments about the strategy. The last two though were very unhappy. They refused to resign making it as hard as possible for me to find their vils all the while throwing insults in the chat.

Are tower rushes considered poor sportsmanship among the AOE2 community?

Improved Tech Tree UI mod has been fixed!

    Posted: 13 May 2020 05:57 PM PDT

Sorry for the wait, I've had some issues IRL that kept me from updating the mod - I also assumed there'd be a hotfix due to the Malay issue so wanted to wait until it came out to push a fix.

Mod has been updated with all the new changes from the latest patch. As always, please let me know if there are any issues.

A note to UI mod creators: The latest patch has added an entirely new column into commandpanel.json, as well as adding plenty of new texture references in materials.json so if you're having issues with the new patch, that's where to look. You'll need to likely just replace the entire file.

Something weird is going on with multiplayer

    Posted: 14 May 2020 02:46 AM PDT

Just started a ranked game, first weird part was I had no loading screen, just thrown straight into game. Bit odd but ok, all fine for about 10 seconds then lose control of everything but mouse pointer, however the screen is locked. Can't click anything, no player names and score frozen? Internet was working and no disconnect from what I can tell. Anyone else had this happen?

    Meme strats?

    Posted: 14 May 2020 03:24 AM PDT

do you guys know any meme strategies, preferably for team games? Or just out of the box/ less often seen strats? Me and my friends have discovered that using siege towers on arena as soon as castle age hits is pretty funny and effective. We've decided to use siege towers to sneak in heaps of archers during the mid game battles on arabia, and will try that out the next time we play together. we thought maybe we will let a mongol player just make like 60 rams and fill them with men at arms, that could be kind of funny. You guys know any other funny strats we can try out? I don't want to do anything scummy like goth drush spam or inca tower rush but if it's annoying thats fine.

About to do ALL the aoe2 campaigns on Hard, for the ~3rd time. What would you like to know/read/have impressions on?

    Posted: 14 May 2020 05:05 AM PDT

I played AOE2 since probably 2003ish, and have done all the campaigns many times, but only 2-3 times on Hard. Last time was at the release of African Kingdoms. I even published a noob-friendly guide on steam for fast castle in 2016, so that was fun.

Since I am starting all the campaigns again, would you like to see a brief summary or overall impressions on each campaign with a subjective note out of 10, or any other format?
