    Question on Unit 'Formations'

    Hey guys,

    I was wondering if the advanced unit formations did anything to units on a stats level?

    I know I've heard of the cover, or spread out formation increasing range resist but decreasing attack, but that's all.

    If any of them do modify unit stats, can someone explain to me any practical advantages? Perhaps cover being useful when retreating skirms from artillery fire when they don't need to be shooting at them.

    Strategies that revolve around getting Mercantilism is Age II?

    Sounds like a ridiculous idea. But also one prone to be a part of some kind of cheese strategy.

    I doubt that most civs have enough good Age II shipments for Mercantilism to be worth getting. On top of that, it probably wouldn't supply more than 3 shipments by the time you purchase it; I know from Deathmatch that hitting Mercantilism immediately gets you 5 shipments.

    Even if you could instantly queue 3+ shipments, they'd still have to wait to arrive, dulling the efficiency of the plan.

    Anyone know anything about getting early Mercantilism?
