Civilization Match-up Discussion Round 9 Week 16: Magyars vs Turks Posted: 18 Aug 2020 08:27 PM PDT Although both vs Turks, Magyars have very different match ups against the Ottomans vs the Pechenegs.... Hello and welcome back for another Age of Empires 2 civilization match up discussion! This is a series where we discuss the various advantages, disadvantages, and quirks found within the numerous match ups of the game. The goal is to collectively gain a deeper understanding of how two civilizations interact with each other in a variety of different settings. Feel free to ask questions, pose strategies, or provide insight on how the two civilizations in question interact with each other on any map type and game mode. This is not limited to 1v1 either. Feel free to discuss how the civilizations compare in team games as well! So long as you are talking about how the two civilizations interact, anything is fair game! Last week we discussed the Malians vs Spanish, and next up is the Magyars vs Turks! Magyars: Cavalry civilization
Turks: Gunpowder civilization
Below are some match up-specific talking points to get you all started. These are just to give people ideas, you do not need to address them specifically if you do not want to!
Thanks as always for participating! Next week we will continue our discussions with the Japanese vs Slavs. Hope to see you there! :) [link] [comments]

Censorship is getting out of hand Posted: 18 Aug 2020 10:13 PM PDT "Canals" (the map) and "analysis" are both censored, likely becuase they contain "anal". This is stupid. [link] [comments]

Impact of advancing ages itself Posted: 19 Aug 2020 04:45 AM PDT Hi everyone! I started playing recently and was wondering whether going up through the ages has an impact itself (stronger units, better eco, etc) or whether it just makes the upgrades available that lead to those effects? Thank you guys [link] [comments]
Posted: 19 Aug 2020 02:18 AM PDT I've been getting back into the game recently as a semi-noob who last played Conquerers and I feel like every game I go through this process of being like "oh nice, a big infantry bonus, they must be a good infantry civ!" only to find that they're missing armour upgrades or they don't get Champion, meaning their Two Handed Swordsmen are maybe as good as a Champion anyway. Is that adding anything to the civ, really? Maybe they don't have to research Champion but it's just saving a few gold. Seems like there's loads of examples of this. I'm sure it's for balance reasons, but I want unique techs to provide something actually unique! [link] [comments]

Posted: 19 Aug 2020 08:16 AM PDT Something that I've seen posted a lot lately - but it's not an especially recent phenomenon - is people wondering what they do wrong and why they can't climb the ladder despite having low elos (1100 and less). What draws my attention is that most of these people claim to have "clean build orders", and facing opponents with similar "decent" builds. I have my doubts about that. People often dismiss build orders as an area of the game they have "mastered" and not the cause for failure, while realistically it is something you can easily improve on (as you have control over your dark age), have to do every game, and can continuously improve even to the very top of the ladder. So if you allow me, I'd like to try out a thought experiment. I invite every one who is struggling to climb the ladder, with a elo of 1300 or lower, to post a recorded game here where they believe they executed a "clean" build order (only interested in feudal age builds, FC builds tend to matter less). I'll review the builds showcased in these recs, compare it to my own (as a very average player at ~1550) and with players on top of the ladder to study differences. The goal is not at all to make fun of anyone (we all suck anyway), but offer an honest outside perspective and decide whether or not working on build orders should be a priority for lower rated players. It's not "coaching" either since I do not believe I am remotely good enough to do that. Feel free to fire recs my way (or insults, I'm fine with those as well). [link] [comments]

Posted: 19 Aug 2020 01:36 AM PDT Hello guy ! First post in this sub, well im playing since few month and near Elo 1000, well this not actually matter. But i got 2 guys who said after the match (that they lost pretty fast), they reported me for cheating... WTF ? I don't even know the logiciel for cheating. My question is : do have to do something ? Or the people who take care of that know if im cheating or not ? I don't want to take a ban for salty people. Sorry for my english i don't practice it since yearsssss ! Thanx ! [link] [comments]
Posted: 19 Aug 2020 05:01 AM PDT Hi everybody, I'm a french aoe2 player dans I organized some tournaments for the community in the past. One of them was on the "capture the relic" gamemode. To make the games faster we decicded that the players should start in feudal age with more ressources. But yesterday I had a better idea : why not make them start like in the "empire wars" gamemode with 20 something villagers and already in feudal, it will make the games even more interesting. So I tried to launch a game like that but sadly it's impossible because Empire Wars and Capture the Relic are two different gamemodes and you can't launch them at the same time. So I have a question for the scenario editors/modding experts of the reddit : is it difficult to create a custom scenario to "combine" these 2 gamemodes? Have a nice day! P.S : I don't know shit about modding that's why I'm asking ^^ [link] [comments]
When to go castle and when to stay in feudal? Posted: 19 Aug 2020 05:23 AM PDT I am new to the game and currently spamming franks and learning scout rush. after 6 scouts in feudal I go on a raid and usually get 5-6 vils and all my scouts die(is it fine for them to die after i disrupt opponent's eco?) now after this do i save up for castle or do more raids with scout and skirm/arch(now he probably has 3-4 pikemen) also, whats the rule of thumb? how many vils before clicking castle? (no build tells this sadly) [link] [comments]
Best combo as Vietnamese against Britons Posted: 19 Aug 2020 04:49 AM PDT What composition is best against the following combo according to you with limited gold? I.e. you need a trash unit in the composition. Castles + Elite Longbows + Light cavalry + trebuchets [link] [comments]

High ELO, guys, seriously, pull up. Posted: 19 Aug 2020 07:28 AM PDT In just about every unranked server there are games from guys & gals just like me who are trying to practice and improve. These games are normally titled with low ELO, but I'm a little different, I put BEGGINERS in my title. I play on the Australian server because, well, I'm an Aussie. The last three games I've had my arse handed to me well and truely, why??? My last three opponents ELO's have been well over 1400. I'm at 807. Seriously guys, if people are asking for low ELO or noob's and your over the 1k mark, don't join their games. It's hard to learn BO's and practice when from about the 12-13min mark your fighting for your life just to keep your vil's alive. Please guys give us BEGGINERS a chance to learn and improve then I'm more than happy to go up against you. [link] [comments]
Posted: 19 Aug 2020 06:24 AM PDT I was exploring the Wiki a bit today and saw a tech I hadn't come across before (Tower shields) from the Lithuanians. This tech gives +2 Pierce armor to skirms and halbs and got me thinking how you might go about making the most OP trash in the game. The two comps that came into my head were Japanese - Lithuanians - Vietnamese which would lead to the Japanese player having FU Imperial Skirms, and some of the best halbs in the game. For variety the Vietnamese player could then go Rattan archers or Eles, while Lithuanians do their thing. The second was Aztecs instead of Japanese. Giving them Imperial Atalatl Skirms with bonus pierce armor. As well as Garland wars pikes to offset the lack of halb. Both can use their civs strengths to accompany. Japanese with towers and trebs, Aztecs likely with monks/Siege, while the other two do their thing. Which of these do you think ends up being a stronger team comp, or is there even another one I might be missing? [link] [comments]
AoE 2 HD: Making allies over LAN games? Posted: 19 Aug 2020 01:34 AM PDT This might be a really stupid question, I've tried searching for it but didn't get any results which answered my query. So I play AoE 2 with a friend against multiple AIs, we have "Lock Teams" turned off, but when we try and change our stance towards an AI nothing happens. In singleplayer when I turned some AI to an Ally it usually requests for some resources and then once the needs are met they'd change to ally. But in multiplayer, when I change it to Ally nothing happens, it doesn't request for resources and it stays Enemy. I've even tried sending few hundred resources to see if it triggers anything, nothing happens. So rather than spending time experimenting with this, I felt I'd be better off asking if it is possible at all to get an AI to change to Ally or neutral when in a multiplayer game? PS: It works with human players, because we just need to switch the buttons on either user's side. [link] [comments]
Dealing with Khmers in Death Match Posted: 19 Aug 2020 05:17 AM PDT Yesterday I lost two games in a row against the same player using Khmers in 1x1 DM. In the second attempt, I tried to rush him with paladins (Huns) very quick but he managed to keep villagers working and popped out a high number of elephants real fast. After that, he massed heavy scorpions (the ones that fire two arrows and have extra range). And all the trades were pop and resource ineffective. I Had better eco, but it was impossible to keep up with my military being drained so fast. I really need a siege onager civ to deal with that? [link] [comments] |
