Dark Age Cup reached Hera and the AoE2 News page!

    Posted: 09 Aug 2020 05:16 AM PDT

    Hey y'all,
It's Sieh from In Season e-Sports. We are the organizers of the Dark Age Cup, which has recently reached its final stage, and will be cast by the one and only Hera, on his channel on Monday 10th August, 2100 GMT. I'm hyped!

NOTICE: Thank you message followed by real content, skip to the end if you're only here for the content <3

This is mainly a thank you post, though I will be teasing our next project towards the end.

First and foremost, I want to thank all of you out there who showed us tremendous support through this inaugural project of ours. It was always our plan to have multiple tournaments, but the support motivated us to work even harder to deliver on a full ' Age ' series, with the Feudal Age Cup coming up soon. The Dark Age Cup was meant to be a tourney for the beginners (such as me xP) in this community who don't necessarily get the deserved exposure to competitive tournaments. It evolved into something much more wholesome, allowing us to partner with other growing streamers to give them a community to grow with.

Secondly, and just as importantly, I want to thank the entire Age of Empires team (specifically 2 of our heroes who know who they are, don't think I should mention their names publicly), for being so gosh darn supportive, I simply cannot describe in words how much it meant to us. From announcing us at the start, to the blog post up on the AoE official site now, its been absolutely amazing and I can't wait for the next step in our relationship to help blossom this beautiful AoE community.

Lastly, AND most definitely NOT the least, Hera. Personally, I'm a professional freelance caster specializing in LoL, Valorant, and recently AoE. I have never, ever met a professional player so humble and easy to speak to. Thank you so much Hera for joining us to cap this journey off. You are an absolute legend, and a gem to our community <3. Show him your love and hype on twitch next time he's live!

    Now, for the content,

We've started working on compiling YouTube videos from all the games, and our most recent one is a semi final spotlight involving all the brilliant players who made it to that stage.
We will be releasing a small teaser of our next project in AoE 2, the Feudal Age Cup after Hera's stream, so make sure to come watch the finals live!

Lastly, for quick responses to any questions or to get our announcements as soon as they come, join our Discord!

See you soon y'all! Stay safe from COVID <3

Just bought DE and decided to try Ranked games for first time ever!

    Hello everyone,

Long time lurker but i wanted to share this with all of u guy's/girls.

I have been playing AOE for a long time (mostly AOK) but the only thing i did was play campaigns or versus ai.

For the past few months i have been watching a lot of AOE2 on Youtube and Twitch and decided to buy the game and try out ranked! I was pretty confident in myself because i feel like i have good knowledge out the game (except the newest DE civs).

So far things went even better than i expected! i have 8/8 1v1 wins and 1/1 teamgames wins!Foto included is just a game were opponent went Naked FC on arabia and i countered it hard with forward vils/towers.

Modri reached 3000 ELO in TGs

    Posted: 09 Aug 2020 03:53 AM PDT

According to Aoe2.net the best Slovenian aoe2 player Modri is the first who reached ELO 3000 in TGs. Also a few days ago Hera passed 2400 mark in 1v1. Now difference between TG and 1v1 is 600. How far can this go in TGs and 1v1?

I have a ton of hours into this game and I feel like im not improving at all.

    Posted: 09 Aug 2020 06:23 AM PDT

Title says it all. I have close to 200 hours in this game now and I feel like im not improving at all. I follow build orders, I attempt to raid early when appropraite and Im still doing no damage to opponets and they somehow beat me in every single category. It doesnt make sense.

Im almost about to give up on this game. Its extremely discouraging to constantly lose.

What is the longest AOE2 match you have seen?

Most of the matches i see on youtube finish in about 20 or 30 mins. Post the longest most challenging match you have seen.

PART 3: favourite colour to play as? (pls read msg)

    Posted: 09 Aug 2020 03:06 AM PDT

I've already posted 2 "favourite colour to play as" polls but unfortunately reddit only allows 6 slots, this means the results aren't as accurate since people would click a colour on the other poll simply to see the results, therefore ruining the results. however, a fellow user suggested I make a 3rd poll from the most voted colours for a more accurate result.

    so here I am!!

Why do people like playing as the Goths?

    Posted: 09 Aug 2020 01:07 AM PDT

The pros insist that they're not that good, but at a low-mid level, Goths will absolutely pulverize over a third of the civs as long as they can get to imperial. And unlike virtually every other civ in the game, they only have one strategy: spam huskarls. Obviously, this doesn't work if you're playing the Japanese and a few other civs with strong counters, but it's completely impossible to counter for the Koreans, Mayans and a bunch of other civs. So why do people like playing them? I get the allure of an OP civ, but what's the attraction of playing a game where there's minimal strategy involved? Huskarls are so boring

Looking for a Mod that will make unit outlines more vivid.

    Posted: 09 Aug 2020 02:41 AM PDT

hello! i am looking for a mod that will make the unit outlines more vivid.

i am talking about the unit outlines that show the unit when it is obscured behind a building.

example to make it clear: sometimes there are units standing behind a castle. you can see them because they have their outlines visible and drawn upon the castle building sprite.

now as it turns out, i find it difficult sometimes to spot my idle vil, inspite of having the idle villager pointer mod. and so i want to know if there is a mod for this, or if i can make one myslef.

    let me know. thank you.

I finally beat Saladin's The Lion and the Demon

    Posted: 08 Aug 2020 01:25 PM PDT

I'm not a good player, no way around it. I've tried this campaign close to ten times and I finally beat it.

Good lesson in micromanagement, and not just gather resource then build an overwhelming army as I usually do.

I read up a ton of strategy guides to formulate a plan in my final (and successful) attempt.

Most proud of making my own call to diverge from the guides and build foot archers instead of cavalry archers for my initial attack against the Teutonic knights. My economy isn't stable yet and I want to save some gold for the mamaluke during this vulnerable period.

O man, what a weight off my chest I thought I was never going to be about to beat this.

Shout out to the rams that were invincible against Richard the Lionheart's arrows and castle defense.
