Explosion in Beirut Lebanon and thank you to the international community (off-topic and cheesy) Posted: 05 Aug 2020 07:16 AM PDT Mods feel free to delete this, and fair warning to all: cheesy and verbose post in coming. TL;DR Thank you, the response of the international community is consistent with and reflects what I have come to experience and know about our own little slice of the world, in our own international Age community. So, I'm told other countries have covered the explosion in Beirut that took place yesterday. One of my favorite things about our community, personally, is the diversity and how international it all is. If you asked me some years ago if I thought (and just randomly choosing some of the people I got to know, in no particular order and not at all an exhaustive list) that some of the closet and most trusted friends in my life would compromise of an Indian, a Swede, a Finn, a Canadian, a Norwegian, a British, an Irish, a German, a Brazilian, an Australian, a New Zealander, a French, an Argentinian, a Spanish, a Russian, and Iranian, a Turk and so on, I absolutely would ask you for the number of your dealer because you're definitely smoking some good shit. We have experienced crisis after crisis here in the last 12 months, ranging from economic collapse and political chaos to the global pandemic we are all dealing with to now this out-of-a-hollywood-movie explosion. I live a few mins away. Compared to others, our injuries and damages are minor. My neighbors who live across the hall (they're like 2-3 meters away) by contrast have had their entire home trashed. Unclear how we, comparatively speaking, at my home got this lucky. On a personal note, of course, the outpouring of support has been great and welcome but this isn't about me. Everything I have come to learn about all your cultures, histories, societies, turns out to actually be true. We are receiving requests to aid us, and as we speak, less than a day later, some of that aid is already here. And what's crazy, is that we are having these offers made by both allies and enemies alike. This 90s video game we play that has taught many of us about many different peoples that have existed on this planet in one form or another. This just a design feature of the game. It has always warmed my heart that incidentally, the diversity of the game also exists in the playerbase. And on a day like today, there really are no words to describe how grateful we are to see so many of YOUR countries come to our aid at a time when we absolutely cannot handle this on our own. I am a volunteer EMS provider at a local station (the station, actually, covers in its official area of response the site where the explosion took place). Luckily, my guys and gals are OK for now. But many of our sister agencies were not lucky. We have lost too many first responders and service members as a result of this. Thousands of our citizens are injured. Perhaps a quarter of million of Beirutees are now homeless. I think the damage may be in the billions US. I think the death toll may have risen over a 100, but I really don't want to find out at the moment. So, yeah, it's bad. But really, I just want to express my gratitude and appreciation for what many of your countries are already doing or offering to do. I could not have made it this far in Age, and in some ways in life even, were it not for many of you guys that come from all over the world. And while my story and personal life are insignificant in the grand scheme of things, your countries now are going to be the reason that Lebanon booms back and makes that amazing come back happen. Or at least, without you, we don't stand a snowball's chance in hell. So, thanks for all the fish and thank you for giving me a preview of the greatness and compassion and kindness of what your countries and its peoples are capable of. As now, my entire nation is witnessing that for themselves. Cheers. Edit: also, to add and a bit self-centered assuming this post isn't instantly deleted (11), I know I haven't gotten back to many of you but haven't really eaten since Saturday and I'm moving between moments of just trying to relax to getting shit done. Will be get back soon as I can. Cheers again. [link] [comments]
Posted: 05 Aug 2020 05:56 AM PDT Just wanted to share my newfound love of the Vietnamese! It feels amazing being able to hit Feudal and pick up eco upgrades without impacting your ability to build multiple ranges, blacksmith etc. Then in a feudal fight, your higher HP archers typically trade quite well with even the best archer civs (at least at my elo ~1100). And of course, you already know where to send your archers in the first place with the enemy position bonus. Rattan Archers are a lot of fun, and even though they're lacking top tier cav and siege options, their chunky elephants can at least fill a roll, whilst BBC with siege engineers is a godsend when facing enemy onagers. Then in a trash war, imp skirms shine and are supported by serviceable (underwhelming but not horrible) halbs and light cav. What's everyone else's experience of the civ? [link] [comments]

Should Palisade Walls get a cost increase?... Posted: 04 Aug 2020 11:58 PM PDT Is walling in the early game too meta?... Edit: In either resources (wood) or patience (construction time), whichever you think is more appropriate (and why). [link] [comments]

Posted: 05 Aug 2020 03:11 AM PDT I'll be curious to know which are everyone's favorite units for raiding. The answer can be either an Unique Unit (such as Gbetos) or a generic Unit from a specific civ (such as Burmese Hussars). Before someone says it : yup teutonic knights are a valid answer. Build Order: Japanese 20pop MAA into Archers Posted: 04 Aug 2020 11:24 AM PDT Hey reddit, some of you will already know that I am trying to find a unique build order for every civilization that leverages their bonuses and their best units. So far I have already done one for the Magyars, the Malay, the Britons, the Koreans, the Aztecs, the Saracens and the Turks. Today's build is for the Japanese! Granted, it's only a variation on the (2nd) most meta opening, but it still leans into the Japanese's strengths: Cheaper eco buildings end up saving us north of 200 resources in the early game which lets us get our faster-hitting MAA on the map even earlier, possibly before the (first most meta opening:) walls are complete. The idea was inspired by one of u/_Mr_Str4rk_'s videos and this particular version of the build was brewed in his discord with the help pf u/jeowaypoint and Melo. Japanese 20pop MAA into Archers As usual, any feedback and criticism is appreciated and ecouraged! [link] [comments]

Every team game I've played for two weeks: someone disconnects from server 2 mins in. Posted: 05 Aug 2020 12:28 AM PDT I've played over a dozen games this week, and EVERY single game has had a player from my team or another disconnect from server, ruining the game. [link] [comments]
Posted: 05 Aug 2020 07:19 AM PDT Hey there! How do I select multiple groups at the same time WITHOUT combining them? Lets say I have group 1, 2, 3. If I do CTRL + 1 + 2 +3 it'd combine them into 1 group. What if I just want to SELECT THEM to issue an order. How can I do that? [link] [comments]
Scouting Enemy Position Advice Posted: 05 Aug 2020 06:56 AM PDT So this may sound silly but in my last couple of ranked 1v1 sessions I have been struggling with finding my opponent at a decent time. I am scouting my base and resources at a good time, 4.30-5.00, but sometimes I don't find my opponent until minute 7 or 8. I have followed Hera's scouting advice and I usually try to send my scout in a direction directly "ahead" and then run in a wide circle fashion if I don't find my enemy but I feel that it's too slow and I lose a lot of time. Is this normal and just a matter of Random map generation luck? Do you have any advice on how to improve the time to scout your opponent? Thanks in advance [link] [comments]
