Some new(?) info from the newsletter: More than two teams and pre-built decks Posted: 10 Sep 2020 11:44 PM PDT I was looking at the latest insider post where they posted a wrap-up of the betas and it says: "Online Experience: In a big upgrade from the original Age III, we have completely revamped the back end multiplayer system. We are now able to have more than two teams in multiplayer matches!" Moreover, they seem to have updated the card system in so far as they added pre-built decks: "Not only did we adjust size and graphics for ease and readability, but we also added in pre-built decks that will have new players entering battle in just seconds" I never understood why there weren't more than two teams in aoe 3, but I would hope a diplomacy system akin to aoe 2, where you can switch teams mid-game. What about you guys? [link] [comments]

Planning to pre-order Age of Empires 3 Definitive Edition, is 8gb ram really enough? Posted: 10 Sep 2020 09:04 PM PDT These are my laptop's specs, I'm planning to upgrade it to 8gb ram: CPU RAM Motherboard Graphics Storage I want to buy the newer version since the older version seems more expensive. Will it run properly? or do you think it would be laggy or something. I'm trying to decide whether to buy this right now or wait since I might not even be able to play it normally [link] [comments]
Did the AOE2 definitive edition fix the network lag in multiplayer or was it still peer to peer? Posted: 10 Sep 2020 08:15 PM PDT I remember back in the day in Age of Empires 3, the game was a ton of fun, but the problem was if any single person in the game had a slow network connection, the entire game would slow down for everyone. It would get to the point where a game that normally lasts 40 minutes would last 4 hours, and it would often come down to who had to leave first. For this reason, 4v4's were pretty much never played because the lag was almost always unbearable. Then you also had people that would just intentionally lag switch to keep the game stuck when they're about to lose so their rating wasn't impacted. Did age of empires 2 fix this so that it uses a client-server model? Or is it still peer to peer networking and a lagfest if one person in the game lags? Did they change the overall multiplayer experience too? Just trying to set some expectations for AOE3 :) [link] [comments]
Posted: 10 Sep 2020 12:04 PM PDT I'm curious what the community thinks about the "advanced arsenal" card. Any thoughts? [link] [comments]
Posted: 10 Sep 2020 09:37 AM PDT There are a lot of cool cards that are never used because they are so underwhelming like the balloon or chinese wall. Are we getting these cards buffed or even new ones for the old civs? Would love to see better card balance and civ flavour cards like chinese wall actually being worth taking. [link] [comments]
Any Washington DC area AOE3 players here? Posted: 10 Sep 2020 06:21 AM PDT Me and my two friends play together and we all live in this area.. Be nice to find a few local people.. have happy hour etc. [link] [comments]
Posted: 10 Sep 2020 08:33 AM PDT I just played a game where this happened. I don't think I've ever seen it before in 1v1 and was just sort of wondering what people think of it as an idea. I'm not sure it's an overly viable strategy? In this particular game I tried to apply pressure to them (German) with some (British) hussars, but I ran away after they shipped Black Riders. And then they ran away from a single outpost. And then what happened was... I eventually won and even though I shouldn't have, I do think that was more down to a vital tactical error due to not knowing how revolts work than the merits of their strategy. When they pushed into my base, they failed to get my vills or my forward artillery foundry. I'd already been planning a base exchange, so in I go with my Improved Grenades grenadiers (I play for fun... winning is only a concern insofar as sub 10min games aren't fun for anyone). My grens destroy most of their houses because, um, I thought I'd house them: should've gone for the TC. They eventually resigned after I did get their fort and TC, their last two buildings, but they should've kept going even two minutes longer... I was out of resources. I feel like if I'd attacked their TC initially, it would've been the game since they appeared to have gone all in with the Revolt idea. Didn't even have a barracks or stable as far as I could tell. And the resources that eventually went into the second group of grenadiers (to take out the fort), could've gone towards... lbs and dragoons I guess? maybe an extra culverin. I'd say musk, but I hadn't researched veterans yet and was moving my vills off resources way too much. Mind you... if they'd played differently too, they would've known where the 2/3 of my vills that weren't in my base to start off were with anyway and moved on those instead of my buildings but even so. Posted: 10 Sep 2020 11:25 AM PDT Is there a known hack that can allow a Russian with one factory , 2 mill, 2 plantation, to out-eco a Portuguese with 3 mill, 3 plantation, 2 factory, and all respective eco upgrades sent? Played a guy yesterday who I stomped but allowed to survive because he wanted to play more. Scores were (me) 450ish and (him) 250ish last I remember checking. Ten minutes later i'm still harassing him but not sealing the deal so we can have some fun playing and battling. I look, and his score is now in the 800s while mine (70 vills all settled onto mills/plants/wood and two factory en route) is still less than 500. his score jumped massively , very suddenly. So i attack again with upgraded port muskets (two upgrade cards sent, guierrio improvement, arsenal improvements). He has hordes of strelets and cossaks. No big deal. I send organs for strelets and keep muskets for hand attack on horses. He repels me through sheer numbers a few times. I push. Disrupt Eco, bomb houses with mortars. Real headway. Then another horde comes. and another. so on. His score only went up. Tactically i can see how he could win over time for sure. I changed strategies a few times but eventually it was like these strelets were coming from thin air and it didnt make sense that he could keep doing it from a resources perspective. I can't figure this out unless he had some sort of clever cheat going on. No way a russian out-ecos a late game, upgraded, proficient Portuguese player. Right? It was like i was on top then all the sudden he doubled me score. In a few minutes. It wasn't gradual, though I never conscioulsy saw the score change. I forgot to check postgame as I became so frustrated. Thing was, he wasn't attacking. Ever. He never played offensive. It was hyper suspicious, the way he was taunting and saying misongynisitic sexual jokes. I felt like he had a secret and he was "having fun" knowing i couldn't win no matter what i tried. He never spammed opriks like russian players tend to do, so it was like he didnt want the game to end, rather he wanted to drag it out so long i quit (which I did). Nothing added up and I'm convinced he was doing something dishonest or exploiting something. Is this a thing? [link] [comments]
