KOTD Rd of 64 win broken down by underdog/favourite

KOTD Rd of 64 win broken down by underdog/favourite

I compiled a table of KOTD that looks at whether the civ is picked by the favourite (low seed number) or by the underdog (high seed number). as well as the average seed of the player picking a civ. Civs picked once or never picked don't appear on the table.

Here's what I think we can infer from this (with the usual "low sample size" caveat):
    - Britons is not underperforming as badly as its 13% win rate suggests, it's just being picked primarily by underdogs.

    - Underdogs love Japanese & Malian MAA and Celts drush/MAA. That partially explains the low win% of these civs: underdogs try risky MAA based strategies to inflict a lot of damage early on. It's usually not enough.

    - The top players love their Chinese and Lithuanians.

Remarks: the distinction between underdog and favourite makes less sense for tight matches, e.g. seed 32 vs seed 33 (Hoang v Lyx). I moved civs picked once to the bottom in order to

    Some ideas regarding trade carts

    Posted: 22 Sep 2020 07:33 AM PDT

Maybe someone else has thought of this, but the devs should introduce a toggle option where you can disable/enable trade carts being selectable.

Most of the time I make trade carts and want to forget about them from then on; rarely do I ever need to select a trade cart and give it a command once it's created. But often when I drag select several units in an area, a trade cart or two are selected as well because they happen to be passing through the area. I don't want to counter a raiding group of mangudais with f*ing trade carts; it never turns out well.

Of course it only takes a second to deselect them with ctrl+shift, but sometimes I don't have a second to spare in the middle of trying to micro a battle.

The button could be lower right by the mini map with the idle vill button, signal button, etc. The default would still be that trade carts are selectable, so if you don't like this idea just don't use the button! No harm in having it.

Also there should be an option to return all of your trade carts to your home market with one button click, in the case of an ally's base getting raided and you have a dozen carts headed that way that you have to track down individually before they get caught in the crossfire. Is that a thing already?

Hand Canooners, Skirmishers, and BBC as the perfect counter to the Mayan Deathball.

    Posted: 22 Sep 2020 05:44 AM PDT

Just got off a game vs Mayans. I played as the Malians and honestly, the game was decided at minute 20 when he went up with a ton of archers. I lost that game badly and it got me thinking as to what I could've done better. This is what I came up with.

I would love to hear your opinions on what unit comp I should have shot for and also how you would approach the game in my shoes.

Edit: By Mayan Deathball I mean EEW and Plumes.

    One more Stone

    Posted: 21 Sep 2020 10:17 AM PDT

Over the past few patches i've continuously noticed a bug with stone piles.

After mining a whole pile of 350 stone, i often end up with only 349 Stone
It is very annoying if i need to buy 100 stone from the market when having 99 for a TC or 649 for a castle

    Is this a known bug?

I play offline most of the time and experience this during campaigns as well as during normal games

"Force" button on "Research Technology" trigger -- what does it do?

    Posted: 21 Sep 2020 05:10 PM PDT

I'm building a scenario on "ludicrous" map size, and decided I'd give everyone the ability to make harbors. That just means making a trigger with an effect "Research Technology" and choosing "Thallassocracy" -- so far so good. But there's a button labeled "Force" for the technology choice, and I have no clue what it does! Once again I'm baffled that they game designers have never published an intensive, thorough guide to triggers and how to use them, so here I am asking you all: what does the "Force" button do?

Lithuanian becoming top tier Arabia 1v1 civs?

    Posted: 21 Sep 2020 06:41 PM PDT

They are so different from what I used to understand as a "Strong Arabia 1v1 civ": Their economy isn't as good as other top tiers, having a good start but that's all. They also don't have a good range unit option except skirmishers. However I see them picked very often in KoTD3 recently, so I guess the pros think they are good. Do you think it is a match-up thing, where they just tend to do well against the top tier civs, or because their cavalry is just so overpowered?
