The Fur Trading mechanic makes sense

    Posted: 21 Oct 2020 11:57 PM PDT

While it could have been implemented better, with a better building and better animations, the way it works makes a lot of sense and might be more powerful than the vills just mining the coin.- The wood cost is very small, only 25 wood

    - you get the first coin gathering upgrade as a shadow upgrade, which recovers that wood and then some. Maybe they could have made it so that setting up the camp cost nothing, and then still have the civ pay for a coin gathering upgrade, but then it becomes just an extra step to the exact same thing

    - you can place 3 or 4 of the fur traders around the coin mine, so there is the capacity for 30 to 40 vills on coin. for everyone else, there is a max of 20 vills on a mine

    - the big button on the fur trader is pretty awesome. xp gen as a bonus to collecting coin is pretty good, plus reduced time and cost on the allied tribe cards shipments is pretty nice

Additionally, they simply could not have the native civs NOT use the coin mines. it would absolutely throw the whole game's balance out of wack.

    - euro civs playing against Lakota or Haud would not be fighting over coin mines

    - in any team game, there would HAVE to be a Lakota or Haud ally, because that would effectively give more coin mines to their allies. While that would lead to an interesting interaction where natives and euro make the best partners, but it would make the 2 natives civs "second fiddle" to the other civs, and that would be pretty... not-good for cultural and game balance reasons.

    - It might have been neat to have the 2 civs get coin from fishing, hunting, and maybe logging, but again, that has the problem of effectively handing over coin mines to the allies or enemies.

Overall, while the changes might not have been implemented as smoothly, the idea is right, and the method, i think, is acceptable

    Counter to Lakota rifle rider?

    Posted: 21 Oct 2020 11:45 PM PDT

Keep getting wrecked by Lakota players because I can't counter their rifle riders. They seem to have a multiplier against everything except light infantry but I typically play swedes and can't purchase any archer units. Any melee anti cav can't catch up and they just kite me, if i do a mixture of Carolean (with the bonus to cav card) and melee infantry i get some success but they always beat me if the Lakota player kites properly. Any cav I train gets absolutely melted so can't do anything there except black riders but they still can't go 1:1 and are far to costly. Anyone got any suggestions or is this just a hard Swedish counter?

I don't really care all that much but it was weird since the portrait for the "american general" looks very much like a cartoonized jackson. Idk just seemed kinda weird.

    AoE 3 Moba-like Scenario *Update*

    Posted: 21 Oct 2020 03:53 PM PDT

    The Good

After a few hours over the last two days of working and tweaking, I have a working proof-of-concept scenario using Explorers as the player's "champions". Musketeer "minions" spawn and move towards their objective, players can capture units in certain points of the map to help their team push, and destroying the enemy's towers makes your team's minions stronger.

    The Bad

ModifyProtounit still seems to be broken, so outposts aren't as strong as I would like. This also makes a feature I thought of to increase your team's minions by a specific amount of bonus damage is not working at the moment.

    The Ugly

In its current state, to really enjoy it you need the map and 5 other friends to try it out. It also means that the host needs to make sure that the computer slots are set up correctly. You can always open the scenario in scenario editor to bypass having friends connect if you just want to check out the map.

    Description

It is a 3v3 moba-like aoe 3 scenario with ai-controlled minions that progresses as you destroy the enemy's towers, much like a moba would.

To win, destroy all of the enemy's Outposts and Towers to unlock your artillery units and push up to the enemy fort. When the enemy fort is destroyed, your team wins.

T1 Reward - Double Unit Spawn Rate and 20 additional unit cap.

T2 Reward - Falconets spawn every 10 seconds, if your team has >30 pop.

T3 Reward - Currently not working

All Outposts and Tower Destroyed - Spawns Great Bombard every 20 seconds, if your team has >30 pop.

    Updates Will Go Here

    • Added invulnerable Town Centers to allow for use of AoE 3's home city shipments in lieu of purchasable items.

    • Critical Error: Triggers appear to be disabled in multiplayer, making the scenario only able to be played in the editor via scenario playtest until a fix is found.

    Lag and stuttering

I encountered a lot of lag and stuttering tonight when playing the inca. No lag beforehand, and I was largely playing offline, so it isn't my internet.

Anyone else have similar performance issues?

    Future civs to be added?

    Posted: 21 Oct 2020 07:54 PM PDT

What are some civs that are likely to be added in future expansions and why?

    Possibly

Ethiopia: not colonized by Europeans (yes yes Italy in 1936), they have a unique and rich history, and made use of interesting weapons and battle tactics.

Persia: largely not colonized (exception of British and Russian influence), again an interesting and rich history, rivalry with the Ottomans, key player in the region, and unique war tactics and potential military units.

Oman: held colonial possessions of its own in Eastern Africa and it was a key player in the Indian Ocean trade networks.

Other possibilities - Morocco, Thailand/Siam, and the Kongo.

Let me know what you think!

Anyone else feel the Inca are kind of underwhelming?

    Posted: 21 Oct 2020 07:43 PM PDT

They seem to be really strong at defense but their units don't seem to do enough damage in general to be good. I think their early commerce age is super strong with the early TC and their free buildings... but closing out games later on has been difficult for me.

The jungle bowman in particular feels weak to me, which is disappointing because I was very excited about it. But the poison feels completely negligible, their damage is pretty low, and their range feels kind of lacking if they are supposed to be a defensive unit. And if they are supposed to be ambush units then their damage is WAY too low.
