    Arena is BY FAR my worst map, The temptation is always to boom up to Imp and then start the fighting but by that time the enemy has all the map control and can keep me pinned in my base until they win. I've tried a couple of all in strategies as well but that just hasn't worked for me, my opponents are able to defend and then retaliate with superior eco.

    What's the best approach: boom to imp? all in castle drop? get relics? fight for map control in castle and then attack enemy base in Imp? Double castle Arambai?

    How can I change units icons on AoE II: DE?

    Inside the local mod app, I've created the widgetui > textures > ingame > units and I've placed the DDS file named the same as another file in the original files, but it didn't change anything. What else do I need to do?

    I also downloaded a mod that already changed the icons, and it was working. But then, I replaced an icon with my own and the icon stayed the same. What other steps are there?

    I'm playing regicide on Hard and the AI might has about 30 units standing around, so I fire my trebuchet to snipe a monk and magically the monk moves as the trebuchet round launches.
    I could have been going for any one of those units all clustered together but the one I target happens to move. It happens every time multiple times a game.

    What's up with this, is the AI cheating? Is there a way around it?

    Old fart here-- what's the state of the Pro Scene? (And lots of questions along those lines!)

    I haven't played or followe AOE2 for a few years now, but I was feeling the itch again and excited to see the World Cup is about to start!

    Looking at some of the recent pro events, it seems like things have shifted a little? Viper is still clearly #1, but is DauT dethroned as the #2? And I assume Jordan is still MIA sadly... but if you had to give a rough ranking of the current top 5-10 players, what would it look like?

    I was a bit surprised when I saw the lineup of the Tournament of Champions that just happened. Presumably these are the current 4 best players? The 3 non-Viper players have always been good, but last time I was following the scene, none of them would've given Viper much of a challenge over the course of a whole tournament! (Also-- please no spoilers, I'm only halfway through it!)

    I was also surprised to see Viper and Daut have been streaming Aoe3! Are pros migrating to that or just mixing it up for fun?

    Finally-- what's up with slam? He was always my favorite :) Is he still Top 5ish?

    Why did this Arabia map generate with some road tiles?

    A friend of mine gets a 0:00 timer in the queue and a black screen in 1/3 of his games. How can he fix it?

    Hi:

    I often duo with a friend of mine. He constantly gets the timer stuck at 00:00 (and eventually gets us kicked out of the queue). He also gets the screen covered with black fog at the start of games, which doesn't let him play. Both happen about 1/3 of the games (or queues) we play.

    Does anyone know how to fix it, or why does it happen?

    Games not saving?

    I've noticed this for a few days now. Basically when I'm playing a campaign and try to save my game, it gives me the "are you sure" message (when overwriting a previous save) and then I click yes.

    But when I try to load that file later, it's not always there. It's still the previous version, and didn't overwrite it.

    Any ideas of what is causing this and how to fix it?

    EDIT: Just to add a twist, in the saves folder, it shows that the file has been updated to the new time and date. But the game only shows the old version.

    More types of ranked games

    I was wondering if there was a reason that we didn't have any other modes in the ranked ladder. Things like an empire wars ladder, sudden death one etc. It shouldn't be super hard technically, and I think would leverage more facets of the game.

    Can't add name for custom building in key-value-modded-strings-utf8.txt

If you look thru the pictures i can rename pre-existing things but not the new building. am i doing something wrong? it shows up correct in genie editor. I'm new to modding so if its something blatantly obvious im sorry :)

    Why can't I choose colors in the lobby I created ?

    Hi there,

    Every damn time I try to create an AoE2 lobby, my mates and I can choose our colors, but in game it changed nothing at all.

    ​

    For example, if I pick green and my mate orange, we'll get blue (me) and grey (my friend). The worst is that sometimes AI can get the same colors as us.

    Can someone please help me with this ?

    I just played my first ranked game in 6 months and got douched

    It was hilarious, one of the most fun games I've played ever, despite losing.

    What are your funniest war stories in AOE? I've seen a lot of posts about bm, toxicity, laming etc on here recently and would love to hear some more random and funny tales because this game throws up loads of silly moments.
