What do people mean with "use rams versus archers"?

    Posted: 08 Jan 2021 12:28 AM PST

Can rams kill archers? I've seen this a lot, but I don't quite understand it!

EDIT: Thank you all! This can move to SOLVED

How long does it take to get a grasp of the game?

    Posted: 08 Jan 2021 06:11 AM PST

Been playing this game against friends who played it before and against bots but the moderate AI destroys me instantly whereas the Standard AI was too easy.

After feudal age I am mostly lost on what units do make, which siege units and get destroyed all the time.

I know dark and feudal age somewhat because of some beginners guide.

When will I understand what to do?

Resigning early in 2v2 ? Never

    Posted: 08 Jan 2021 04:18 AM PST

So just because you or your teammate had to flee their base at 22-25 min with only 20 pop left does not mean you should stop fighting ! (yeah ok, probably because i'm on the lower side of Elo but still)

Crazy comeback game for me and red, i just never let up pressure on green, and even though i didn't kill him as fast as blue did my teammate, his whole pop was garrisonned so he actually had less eco than red. They resigned right after we killed two of blue's castles.

To those who enjoy the campaigns and single player experience out there, play "Tomislav - King of Croatia" right now!

    Posted: 07 Jan 2021 02:13 PM PST

I've just finished playing the custom campaign "Tomislav - King of Croatia" and I have to say it's one of the best made custom campaigns out there and one my favorites for AoE2, including the official ones. The campaign introduces a whole new civilization (with new unique units/tech tree/bonuses), has full voice acting (unit voices included), narrated slideshows, engaging story, great map design, and six well made missions. The quality of this campaign is up there with the official ones released by Forgotten Empires, and even has them beat in certain ways with the map design and gameplay in some of the missions. If you enjoy the single player experience, do yourself a favor and check it out.

I'm blue, my friend is green, and despite my friend had a 1+ hour Imp time we managed to win the game. I know thi is very Low Elo legends, but still felt pretty good to win this one and just wanted to share it here

Malian Arbalest? Or, What To Do With a Malian Crossbow Army

    Posted: 08 Jan 2021 08:14 AM PST

Hey aoe2 community! I was recently playing a game as Malians, where I went MaA into archers in feudal, did some raiding, and continued massing archers to upgrade to xbow in castle age. I played crossbow with a few knights to kill mangonels all through castle age. Once I got to imp, I was not sure about how to use my crossbows. Obviously, Malians are lacking bracer, so their arbalest is a LOT weaker than most other civs. But, arbalest is still stronger than xbow, and I had a whole lot of them. In this case, they also felt like a pretty good counter to my opponent's army (celt knight+pike+a few mangonels that weren't well-enough defended to stop me from diving with knights). Would it have been better to just trade them with my opponent's army in late castle, and transition into farimba cav/champskarl/full gbeto (lol)?

I've seen discussions before where the awkwardness of Malian transitions is addressed, so I'm obviously not the first person to discover this. The game I mentioned was pretty much going to be a win by the time I got to imp anyway (I had some very effective castle age crossbow raids such that my opponent never hit imp and resigned shortly after my first treb came out), but it got me thinking so I was interested to hear some thoughts from the community. Basically: is there ever a situation where you want to go for arbalest as Malians?

When you limit AI to "moderate" for a little mindless skirmish, but it finds a way to stick it to you anyway.
