Just won my first EVER legit ranked game (Absolute Noob)

    Posted: 13 Feb 2021 09:10 PM PST

Holy **** I did not think I was capable. Literally was about to give up on playing ranked entirely, but somehow I managed to win with an entirely new strategy. I'm like ELO 900 only because I just started.

Playing 1v1 Arabia. I chose Aztecs. and oh my god are they good for noobs (3+ villager carry!!) Went for a dark age rush with 4-5 militia (my first rush ever, like, ever) and was able to do decent damage to my enemies production by blocking his berries then switching to his lumber. I was sweating and shaking the entire fucking time.

Got to feudal first, and was able to get first blacksmith upgrades + M@A upgrade thanks to Aztec god eco. Spit out so many M@A and continued raiding. He had good defense but wasn't able to completely wall, he spammed towers around most his production so I had to wait to hit castle age and get pierce armor upgrades.

I thought I was finished because at this point I realized I had STOPPED MY ECO FUCKING COMPLETELY!! Literally had my 15 food vills standing around doing nothing the entire time I was raiding from late dark age to feudal. I have not a clue HOW I managed to get to castle first or get any feudal upgrades. Absolute dumb luck.

Got to castle and he managed to mass some feudal archers to counter my M@A,( he's playing teuton) Well lucky for me, spam eagle warriors were able to counter his archers before he got in castle age. Broke through his palisades and was able to decimate his entire mill farms and stone production. Had another small group hit his lumber on the other side. He had 7+ towers at this point, and I was just kiting the exterior of his base.

He got to castle age and with all his stone and vills tried to get a castle up. I was able to block the build somehow with my M@A and Eagle Warriors. He resigned, I wiped the sweat off my forehead and leaned back in euphoria after losing so many games in a row.

I have no idea how some of you play this game all day. So brain intensive i feel literally wiped after every match. I was sweating, albeit I'm bad at the game.

TLDR: How did I win this one? pure noob luck I suppose. But Aztec Drush is the move!!!

20 Cavaliers in 20 Minutes - Build Order (Meme strat)

Don't mean to fool anyone, for this to be possible you have to idle TC from the Castle Age till you have all 20 Cavaliers, hence why it's a Meme strategy.

    Still not resining?! Arrrrrghh!!!

    Posted: 14 Feb 2021 06:31 AM PST

Do you also hate those people, stealing 10min - 1 hour of your lifetime just by not-resining? I would have a nice idea and spread it out for you to hear (hopefully it reaches devs) What about a winning-option you can click, if your opponent only has 33% of your own score?

What's up With the Crazy Variation of Skill at Average/Low ELO?

    Posted: 13 Feb 2021 10:02 PM PST

The games I've been having lately at around 900 ELO (I'm 930 right now) have been very strange. One game my opponent will only create Hussars and Cavaliers and just tries to kill my villagers, despite me having literally over 100 Pikeman he continues to send in hussars to fight my pikeman.

The next game I'll be drushed followed up by an archer rush with sneak barracks and archery ranges built to one side of my base and a tower covering my woodline. The next game the person I play against barely gets to feudal by the time I'm in castle already. Then the next game someone scout rushes me then FC's into a ton of onagers and archers and just has perfect micro always retreating his onagers just before I can get to them and uses formations very well, and creates the counter to my units every time I transition.

Then the next game the player I'm against builds a tiny house wall around his base, loses some villagers to my MaA + Archers but still naked FC's and get's to castle like 5 min before me, but then barely creates villagers and I'm still able to outboom him and end up with 140 villagers to his 80, and drop castles all over his base and he surrenders without barely ever creating military (40 minute game).

At lower ELO I felt like everyone just didn't know the game or know counters at all, now it's a weird mix of people that are either really good or really bad it feel like.

    Sicilians strategies without first crusade

    Posted: 14 Feb 2021 12:55 AM PST

    Hi.

Besides the usefullness of first crusade after a boom, i am struggling to figure the correct strategy for sicilians. They feel clunky. Their eco bonus is not noticeable until late feudal. Their donjon rush is hard to do.

Their siege is now average since their last patch.

In castle age their units are very good for the resistance to damage bonus but in imperial all their units except infantry lack at least one upgrade.

What do you do with them besides first crusade?

I’m sick of Incas tower rush

    Posted: 14 Feb 2021 08:10 AM PST

I'm gonna rant. I don't mind tower rush, Japanese, Korean, whatever, but not Incas one. Seriously, what is the proper counter to it? If I see scouts, I make spears. I see archers, I make skirms. Now I see freaking Incas villagers...

This strat forces you to play their game, and even if I win, it's boring. The fastest person who can erect most penises wins... Even before they nerfed the coustillier, there was something you can do to counter, but Incas trush, I dunno.

Mod idea / request for terrain and minimap.

    Posted: 14 Feb 2021 08:03 AM PST

I'm looking for a mod that would:

    • turn all sand and snow into grass
    • make forests easier to recognize in the minimap
    • reduce the non-clickable area around the minimap

this example: https://i.imgur.com/NA87NYA.jpg shows a map that is hard to read because there are patches of grass that look like forests. I tried a mod that made the minimap always have sand color, but it made it confusing that greenish terrain would appear orange on the minimap. I'd rather it makes everything into grass in a shade of green that is easier to recognize. additionally, there seems to be an area around the minimap / scoreboard that is not clickable despite being transparent, it would be helpful if that area / frame was reduced

[Definitive Edition] Are there any custom campaigns/scenarios that delve into the Hundred Years War?

    Posted: 14 Feb 2021 03:26 AM PST

I'm reading Barbara Tuchman's A Distant Mirror and I'd love to play out Enguerrand De Coucy or The Black Prince's campaigns.

I recall The Black Prince being available as a hero unit in the original AoE2 map editor. Between the book and the Burgundian campaign, I'm aching to see more chapters from the Hundred Years War emerge.
