Age of Empires 3 Hospitallers of Malta did colonize the Americas

At first they look like Russians but the fact every banner has a different (weak) unit makes them so tough to respond to attack. With the exception of chukonu/ pikeman and arquebuiser/changdao their banners are not general at all.

If I recall correctly, even when the community started with the fanpatches to balance the asian civs China was never that discussed as Japan, India and Iroquois were. Playing them right now is so hard..it feels they have nothing outstanding in army and ecnomywhen I reach colonial age. I've just lost a match because it was hard finding units to counter the ones attacking me (I admit I'm not experienced as China).

So: what made Chinese so strong back in 2007-2009?

Mercenaries in treaty decks?

I see many decks (especially for native american civs) taking big mercenary cards. For example, I see Haudenosaunee taking both infinate cherokee allies and huron allies.

They both provide bonuses to "set warrior societies to active", and I have no idea what this means. Anyone got any ideas and is this why mercenary cards are taken?

Frequently getting stuck in loading screen

Whenever I try and play AoE 3:DE in a private game online I get stuck in a blank loading screen. Sometimes the game seems to recover and it loads me into the game, but most times I am simply get stuck there and have to kill the process via the task manager.

The other players simply load in and get stuck 'waiting for other players to connect' — already in game (seeing their town center). Oddly when the other players leave, my game seems to load in just fine (also starting a match offline does not result into long loading screens or anything close to it).

I already have this game running on my SSD and tried playing with my antivirus disabled as well as enabled — and had success with both options. I have also checked my local files via Steam, which resulted in no files being corrupted or else.

Does anyone have a solution for this or even another suggestion what I could try to fix this? I have not tried reinstalling, since the verifying of game files did not run into any issue, but will try reinstalling later.
